Harry Redknapp stated that when he was manager "When full internationals came around, two or three players didn't want to go and play for England" (BBC website).

Is this true? If so which players? I only thought we had 2-3 England Internationals in that period and I can't imagine any of them pulling out.

The only thing that I can imagine is that Redknapp does have a habit of embellishing his old stories, maybe Ledley King not wishing to play because of his knee issues turned into 2-3 players. Lennon hasn't appeared to play for England since he was photo'd smoking a cigar after England were knocked out of a tournament, but I didn't think that was really Lennon's choice.

What do people think, is Redknapp telling porkies for attention? If not which players would have refused an England call up?

Porkies.

Nothing to say so say something controversial that shows what a great man manager you are.

There may have been the odd player who knew he wouldn't get a game and thought I'd rather have a nice break in Nice etc.

Count me in the camp that thinks Harry is full of crap on this one. I have a soft spot for him and respect what he achieved for us, but I have no illusions about who comes first for Harry.

Players who were capped during Redknapp's era were Lennon, Jenas, Huddlestone, Dawson, Parker, Walker, Defoe. Can't think of any more - I can't think of any of those who would've wanted to miss a match. Maybe Jenas as he knew he wouldn't get a game? Maybe Lennon brah? Dawson & Hudd would've loved to have played more so can't imagine it'd be them. I don't think the attitudes of Walker, Parker & Defoe would've been an issue when it comes to England.

He shouldn't have come out with that really. Now people might question Walker's attitude as a direct result of that comment when it may have nothing to do with him.

Its Harry. Twist the blade a bit more, can't possibly be true, Harry's a gobshite. He's made it up.

Or, like it or not, it's true. This kind of thing has been going on at pretty much every club for years.

As to whom? Meh.
