A point I wanted to raise is that you don't necessarily have to have a team full of top 4 quality players if your squad gel and the tactics are spot on.

An example of this was Everton's quite frankly pants team / squad that got to 4th a couple of years ago...

I think with our current squad we've got a good chance next year now with the addition of a new goalie (if Robbo continues erraticness) and probably another holding midfielder, forward and left midfielder.

Although I do feel the following are good enough:

Hutton
Bale
Woody
King
Lennon
Jenas
Malbranque
Berba
Keano

These players make good squad players:

Gilberto (may belong in upper list but not seen yet so can't judge)

Gunter (may improve to the upper list in next season or so)
O'Hara

Tainio (versatile and would probably be in upper list if didn't keep getting injured and losing his groove)

Dawson (plays well alongside King or Woodgate)

Kaboul (same as Dawson)

Taarabt (still unknown and needs further time)

Lee (people will prob disagree but still think he's worth
keeping around although reckon Ramos doesn't rate as picks other players out of position over him)

Undecided (really can't decided on whether I like them or not):

Huddlestone
Zokora

King, Woodgate, Hutton, Bale, Lennon, Berbatov, Keane.

That's spot on. But feeling generous, i would include Jenas - I've been impressed by him for the last couple of games. He now looks like he's got great concentration and composure in his game..might just make it for a top 4 side if he improves his finishing.

Neither Robinson nor Cerny are good enough for a top 4 team. We need to bring in, in my opinion, 2 new keepers. Cerny has been a fantastic back-up for us, but I feel he'll want to move on this summer, and who can blame him?

Goalkeeper
None

If Fergie had had his way, and timing had been right, I believe Hutton and Bale would both be in the red of United. I think Fergie would have loved Hutton as the long term replacement to Neville/Brown, and what with Evra's contract problems, Bale would be ideal long term for the left. If they went on sale, I don't think any of the top 4 would be interested in Chimbonda, Stalteri, BAE or Lee. Gunter is one for the future, so not included.

Full-back
Hutton, Bale

Ledley and Woodgate, when fit, would walk into most top 4 teams in any European league. Absolutely top draw players. Dawson's no where near good enough in my honest opinion, and I don't agree that he'll improve much. Rocha is a decent player, but not top 4 material by any means. Kaboul I think will be a top 4 player, but he's not there yet. Give him time, and he'll prove the doubters wrong.

Centre-back
King, Woodgate

I honestly believe that JJ's recent form will have raised eye brows from some of the top teams. I rated Carrick pretty damn highly even when we was getting a lot of stick on here, and his form in his last season here won him his big move to United. Same with Jenas. I was a big fan every when he was getting loads of stick, but he's improved a lot on top of that, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some serious interest in Jermaine. Other than that, I don't think we have any other top class central midfield players. Zokora, Tainio, KPB, O'Hara and Hudd are all decent, but none are great. KPB, O'Hara and Hudd both have the potential to be up there, but neither are good enough to be considered top class players right now.

Centre-midfield
Jenas

I don't think any of our wingers are good enough to be considered top 4 yet. Lennon I think has the potential to be, but I'm not sure he's got the quality to get into the United's of this World. For the sake of this, I'll consider Steed a wide player. Steed, like Lennon, I consider in the tier below 'top 4'. A very good player, but just not good enough for the big, big sides. Gilberto I can't comment on as I've only ever seen him play once!

Wingers
None

Keane and Berbatov for me. I think both of them are top class players, and both would attract the interest of the big 4 should they become available. Bent, I think would be in the category below. I think that if used right, Bent's a machine. Right now, we're not using him right, and we're paying for is, as is he.

Strikers
Keane, Berbatov

I've gone for the players who I think would attract the interest of the big clubs if they were available. As bomber said, United isn't made up of top 4 players - it also (regularly) features the Wes Brown's, the Darren Fletcher's, and the Louis Saha's of this World. All good players, but none are top class. Players like Lee (pretending Ramos rated him for a second), Huddlestone, Steed and Bent all have a big part to play for us - but I don't consider them top 4 material. Yet.

Very big, very clever.

Remind me, which one of the examples you quoted was against Birmingham City?

There's no need for that. If you can't add to the thread constructively, then don't add to it at all.

The best idea is just to ignore him. I'm not happy with a lot of the things he says, so it's what I tend to do.

It's just such a confounded bore having the same old players to slag off week in, week out. I vote we have a complete new squad every window. And now he's served his purpose, let's get rid of that Ramos chappy in the summer, too, and appoint that nice Mr Koeman from Valencia. There's a man who knows how to get a team pulling together!

Hutton
King
Woodgate
Berbatov
Keane

Will be:
Bale
O'Hara

Don't know:
Gilberto

Lennon also almost there, but his end product isn't the top 4 quality IMO. Of course you don't have to have all the players concidered as "top 4 quality" if you have a good team. Right now Everton is a good example for that IMO. But this thread was about top 4 individuals, so here is my list.

World Class :King, Berbatov, Keane, Woodgate.

Top quality, need to find consistency : Jenas, Lennon.

Potentially top players, need more games before I'm 100% convinced : Hutton, Bale

Solid squad players : Malbranque, ( O'Hara maybe )

So, apart from these ten players ( Gilberto and Gunter we can't judge ), everyone else is playing for their futures.

Hutton......Woodgate..King......????

Lennon ......Jenas....?????........????

................Berbatov..Keane...........
Everyone but Jenas. He's never shown top4 quality and never will. Teams chasing titles wouldn't play him even if we gave him to them for free.

A top 4 team wouldn't have been humiliated by Birmingham City.

A top 4 team, after they'd just won a final with a Uefa 1/4 final 5 days away and resting 5 of thier best plays and play 3 or 4 others out of position away from home agsint a team fighting for relegation are more than capable of a similar level of apathy.

A top 4 fan wouldn't react like you though.

a top 4 fan would go "Ah bollocks to it we have bigger fish to fry" and if that defeat sends a big enough Rocket up the arses of the fools involved, then stand aside PSV spurs are coming to town

KING WOODGATE KEANE BERBATOV are the stand out 4. They do not look out of place with the top 4 combinations

FERDINAND VIDIC TEVEZ ROONEY
TERRY CARVALHO DROGBA ANELKA
GALLAS TOURE VAN PERSIE ADEBAYOR
CARRAGHER AGGER TORRES CROUCH

Bale and Lennon also have the POTENTIAL.
