i agree with yanno. 5 players in, or 4 if bent shows something before the season ends

In: GK, CB, CM, LM. Most importantly these players must be starting xi quality not squad quality

Out: one GK, rocha/daws, lee yp, one of the CM.

then we may look like a top 4 squad!

Yep, exactly. I'm quite happy with the squad, and we have several versatile players who can do jobs if someone is injured (players like Tainio). But I'd be really happy if we bought 2 or 3 top quality players who would so straight into the first team instead of ones for the future or just more competition for a position that's already strong enough.

A top 4 team, after they'd just won a final with a Uefa 1/4 final 5 days away and resting 5 of thier best plays and play 3 or 4 others out of position away from home agsint a team fighting for relegation are more than capable of a similar level of apathy.

A top 4 fan wouldn't react like you though.

a top 4 fan would go "Ah bollocks to it we have bigger fish to fry" and if that defeat sends a big enough Rocket up the arses of the fools involved, then stand aside PSV spurs are coming to town

Really? You never have bigger fish to fry than the league unless you're Liverpool's manager. All the Top 4 fans I know go mental every time they lose. And if either Man U or Arsenal lost to Birmingham at the moment, they would treat it as a catastrophe, because neither can afford to drop points.

And we're NOT a Top 4 side, and therefore our players don't react as their players would. Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea have a recent history of bouncing back and doing well. We don't, so how you can expect the same reaction from a Spurs fan is beyond me.

And finally, is winning the UEFA really a 'bigger fish' than the league? Nothing says small club more than being content with a cup the big teams don't care about while we can't even get in the top half of the division.

A lot of that is playing devil's advocate, granted, but to suggest the fans are the ones in the wrong is frankly insulting.

Carragher?

Those scousers are so deluded. The only thing Carra'd be doing at a Top Two club is cleaning the boots...

Dont be stupid.

Carragher has been then most consistant english CB for the last two seasons and how Rio Ferdinand kept him out of the England team i dont know.

Carragher IS under rated and obviously was by the last few England managers.

Yup. It was since he turned down the England place. To be honest, I don't think he'd get in now, so it's just as well.

When did this become a thread about a scouse pikey?

Good enough for top 4

Woodgate ( If Fit for a long period of time)
King ( if Fit)
Berbatov
Keane
Jenas

Could develop into top 4
Lennon (Still waiting for him to get a final ball)
Bale (from what i have seen so far could be a great player)
Hutton ( Want to see more in the top flight over a period of time)

And thats it, but i would say that its not about a whole team having "top foru players in every position", its also about the squad the tactics and the motivation the players get, Ie Ramos at Seville, O'neill at Villa and Moyes at Everton, this managers have never spent fast amounts on players, but they have built TEAMS, i do think we have better squads than Everton and Villa, but i would like to see in the close season Ramos and Commoli buying players that we could say are first team players. we have built a good squad, its know time for us to build a better first team.

Which players who play in the top 4 teams would Jenas keep out????

and Lennon could develop?? Its not just his final ball he has to work on if this season is anything to go by

Jenas fair point i think i should have put (the way he has developed so far under Ramos)

And Lennon you are probably right i have sat at the lane many times this season and wondered if he will improve and but i would say that defensivly under Ramos he has improved, so i hope the lad does improve the rest of his game, but the reality is probably not

given the nature of the question, i think almost everyone we currently have within the squad is worthy of a team aiming for the top 4.

it's a team game and even though THudd, say, would not currently merit a starting spot in either our 1st team or any of the top 4, he still has the required quality to come into a game and change it in our favour.

a very recent example is the CC final, where his introduction actually changed the game and ultimately won it for us.

if that is not worthy of being in a top 4 team, i don't know what is

That leaves the following who are goodenough to form a nucleus of a CL team:

Hutton
Gunter
King
Dawson - not good enuff
Woodgate
Kaboul - not good enuff
Bale - too young to call cl material
Gilberto ( assuming we ever see him )
Lennon
Jenas
O'hara - too young to call cl material
Malbranque
Tainio - no chance
Hudd - needs to improve a bit but has the potential in him
Keane
Berbatov

I said fans like him ... i'm not to blame. I'm the best type of fan.

It's not about going mental, i go mental it's about writing threads about teams that win Carling cups and are in UEFA cup 1/4 finals having a crap squad becasue they lose a hangover game to Birmingham.

At what point was i ever asked to compare the merits of all the competitions in a flat race? in August League,UEFA, FA and CC in that order for spurs. WE're not talking about prorotites in august though, we're talking about them now.

The Specific comparison was UEFA cup 1/4 final v's a league game (when top 4 is implausible, reglegation improbable and UEFA Cup qualification irrellevant) It's small time to write threads about how appaulling our squad is after a defeat to birmingham in those circumstances. It's big time to care more about the 1/4 than the league for us at this specific time.

We do have a recent history of bouncing back pretty well and wether we're an actuall top 4 side or not is besides the point. The piont is how we deal with things as a club and our attitude as fans ... both of those are ours to control and decide. I've made my choice.
