I'm sure I read a post like this a while back, but did some searches and couldn't come up with it.

Who do you see getting some 1st team chances this year from the younger players (Pritchard, Kane, etc)?

Who do you honestly think could do a job and make a positive impact to the 1st team and what is it you like about that particular player(s)?

I don't see anything too unexpected happening.

Rumours suggest we are looking for creative midfielders so Carroll might be further back in the pecking order.

Not sure Pritchard will play a part in our first team squad.

Rose will breakthrough if he stays and Townsend will be used more as a squad player but that's probably about it.

The teenage wonderkid ain't coming.

If we don't add a creative wideman I hope we give Falque a chance, apparently we told Almeria they cant have him and they have signed a replacement. Out of all players on loan trying to break in to our first team I can see him being the wild card and think he could make a bigger impact than Townsend, tbh.

Townsend of course will be a great addition as he constantly was always a threat at QPR, unpredictable and constantly able to beat his man.

Rose will do well imo given a chance with the right circumstances

What ever happened to giving your best 16 year old a run off the bench to see what they can do

Don't think that happens too often, and if you look at the players who debuted at 16ish for spurs, Bostock and Ifill both have not seemed to have progressed much from when they were young, much better to take time to develop them. Only in the UK do we have this obsession of blooding players young, in most of the rest of Europe early 20s is the normal age to begin making senior appearances. In Italy some players who are highly regarded only have really began to break through at 23-24, Giovinco being a good example, Immobile another. These things take time and cannot be rushed. I think Townsend, Caulker, Rose and Carroll will be the most used academy graduates next year outside options will probably be Loungo, Cellabos and Fryers.

We are now way beyond expecting our own youth players to make the grade. The only reason for keeping it going is in the forlorn hope one will make it and to make an income from developing and selling to 2nd and third tier clubs for 5mill or so.

Carroll for sure, I feel he's going to be an amazing player. Has that aura about him when he plays.

Would of said Towsend, but he's currently in Ladbrokes

Depends on our transfer policy.

If not loaned out I guess Carroll, Townsend and Smith for sure.

Then I hope Falque gets his shot and I think more depends on injuries.

Maybe there is space for Luongo when Parker, Hudd and Livermore are all on their way out.

Unfortunately, I don't see any getting a chance. Or more so any that will grab a chance if they do.

Tommy Carroll is the only exception, but then I think he has to be looked upon as a senior player now as opposed to an 'up and comer' so to speak.

Not enough of them.

I agree. Keeping multi-million pound internationals on the bench in the hope one of our inexperienced under-21s may make it several years down the road is an absolute must for me. ;)

Seriously though, I can't think of a situation other than an early CC or Europa round in which I would want to potentially compromise a result over the course of a season. So imagine how a manager feels.

Surely such young players have to pretty impressively stand out to merit a first team opportunity nowadays?

And I don't want to hear "Give Carroll a few minutes of experience when 4-0 up" because that kind of situation hardly ever arises.

Kids don't count in the squad limits (or something like that!).
I know but what Im saying is that the CC will be used to give those that wont be starting a chance like siggy, Townsend, Dawson, Caulker, second choice striker, potentially Dempsey, Holtby if he doesn't play much, Naughton/Smith, Friedel and etc. instead of real youngsters like Pritchard

If we are 3-0 up at home to Stoke or Wigan and theres 15 mins to go, why not throw a kid out there and see how he does

Because normally there are more developed players which have yet to break into the team, also it might lead to complacency to the youngster who might go on to believe he has already 'made it'.

Maybe im no football brain but I think it could only be a good thing for the player and the club, csn understand the argument that there would probably be 5 international player's waiting for their chance on the bench but once on a blue moon couldn't hurt.
