I've followed The Glory since a work-mate of mine was over here some years ago and he was from Perth so it kind of stuck.
Funny how we all choose our various 'other' teams to follow. My Scottish side is Motherwell, no idea why.

Why read it then?

I don’t most of the time. It just irks me that despite us doing well and already backing the manager (last Jan) that they feel the need to try to stir.
After all the title of the thread is “what’s grinding your gears” and unless I misunderstood the reason for this thread, that’s what grinding mine. ??

I guess the problem is that you don't realise you don't want to read something until you've read it.

OR, just don't read it, full stop.

Because it's nearly always bollocks & pretty much has no bearing on anything we have done, or plan to do moving forward?

As I've said lots recently, pissing off a fair few SC members along the way. You can't be affected by something you don't pay any attention to.

Something, something, repeating the same things, something something Insanity.

Fair do's. I must say I'm frequently reading stuff which inspires me to think 'WTF did I read that for' so maybe you've gotten the right answer.

Watched a bit of Sky Sports today (got Covid). Virtually the whole fucking news day has been about Erling fucking Haarland and how much better Man City will be when he arrives. 95% of football fans don't give a flying fuck, and people who don't watch for football, even less.

Oh, hang on a minute - a reports just come in and they think he might have just been for a shit. They'll confirm as soon as they get the manhole cover off. They're going to send Danny Mills down to take a look.

And I’ve just had an alert from Sky Sports asking what does this signing mean for Gabriel Jesus, Man Unt and Harry Kane. Ok for Jesus, but what have the other got to do with it, other than click bait!

Hope you don't think I was being preachy bud? (though I guess I'm maybe about to do precisely that ?)

It's just something I decided to do after my little incident, and waking up to a totally different world to the one that existed before that.

Honestly, I'm not exaggerating when I say, for the last 2 years, I have paid absolutely no attention to any team other than our own. What I read on here, and the odd Twitter notification, that's it.

I don't read papers, I don't watch ANY news. And the whole supporting experience is, for me, so much more enjoyable.

There's nothing out there that's not without some sort of motive.

Certain journalists favour certain teams/players.

ALL supporters are bias in one way or another.

If you watch BBC News, then watch Channel 4 news, then watch Sky News. Each will be reporting the exact same item, but with their own twist (bias).

Don't pay attention to scores on a Saturday & Sunday. See how much more you enjoy MOTD.

Mainstream news is nothing but scaremongering, depressing bollocks.

I care about Tottenham. They are, and always will be a need in my life. So I keep them in it. But all that other stuff I just said, mate. It doesn't affect me in any way at all.

Yes, it's perhaps cold to think about the horrible stuff happening with Ukraine/Russia, and think, apart from a hike in my energy bill, it's not affecting me.

There's enough ugliness & shit in every day life. But we can only be affected by what we let bother us.

Ignorance really is bliss mate. ?

The level of sporting news, analysis and punditry is really poor. There is so little talk about what happened in the game, just lots of "what the ref did wrong" and discussing the managers.

What people need to learn to do is understand the way things really work. If a newspaper article doesn't match reality, then learn to ignore it.

We've recently been linked with Dybala. To anyone who actually bothers to think about the quality of the teams likely to come in for him then it is extremely unlikely he'll be coming to Spurs. It doesn't matter if we put up the money or if he likes Conte, we're simply not going to be his first choice. But unsurprisingly, a bunch of fans talk about us missing our targets again and having to look to our 2nd choices.

Modern people's analytical ability really depresses me.

No worries matey, you're not being 'preachy' at all and I take everything you've said in good part.

Personally, having been off the board for the last three months, I have no idea what your 'little incident' was but it does sound like whatever it was has had a profound effect on you.

(Are you the artist formerly known as Coopsieyid')?

Within the three months I've been off, I've had a major personal issue to deal with myself, but hopefully, I can soon look forward to finding a new base to go from.

You're absolutely right about getting wound up about stuff which is fairly irrelevant. It's something I'm working on too but it's a constant battle.

Don’t know why it ground my gears earlier but as part of the recent Liverpool love in I’ve heard a few times (in media and on here) about how they would have won the league last year if not for such a horrific injury list worse than anybody has ever seen

Well, it got me thinking as I remembered thinking at the time it was all overblown and how all of Salah (37) Mane (35), Firminho (36), Trent (36) & Robinson (38) seemed to play every game.

So I thought why not just check wiki to see how they compared to the other big 5 clubs by last season.

Suprise suprise, they had a more settled starting 11 than everyone bar Utd (who finished 2nd) with 8 players getting over 30 Lge appearances.

Players playing:
30+ Lge games
  • Liv - 8
  • City - 4
  • Utd - 8
  • Che - 5
  • Tot - 6

20-29 Lge games
  • Liv - 4
  • City - 12
  • Utd - 6
  • Che - 11
  • Tot - 8

Everything is told from Liverpool’s perspective. Ironically, even the response to Pep’s inaccurate suggestion that ‘everyone is supporting Liverpool’ has been met with the sort of righteous indignation and lack of self awareness that the rest of English football associates with Liverpool fans - almost proving Pep’s point.

Yeah I was Coopsieyid, but had a slight change of name after A&C said that there had been a few messages received by some members who didn't like "The Y Word". So changed, so as to not cause offence.

Deadpool is simply an attempt to lighten up the result of me killing myself in a house fire.

And that's where ignoring the world began. Woke from a coma, into a world where everyone was wearing masks because of a virus that didn't exist when I had the accident.

So if I avoid the world, I'm not affected by any of it. And hopefully people will forget about me over time & I can stay locked away in my flat, away from judgemental eyes.

It's why I'm so precious in here. This place, and the people in it are the reason I've got furniture in my home. Every possession I have, is from their wonderful donations while I was in hospital for a year. Apart from when i go to hospital, this place is my only interaction with the outside world.

And honestly mate, it's a godsend. There are so many wonderful people on here. And some of them are dealing with some really horrible things in their everyday life. But they aren't splashing their woes all over each message board. You wouldn't have a clue. And that's what makes them so special.

It sounds like you really could benefit from removing yourself from all the negativity that's out there. Even just temporarily, to see if it makes a difference. Why add to what you're already trying so hard to overcome?

It'll do you no favours!

For once, I'm not going to apologise for not being on topic, and derailing the thread. I've got no doubts at all that there'll be people who are pissed off with this.

But it could help others to maybe show a bit of understanding if you happen to post something that's out of character compared to how you normally post.

A little bit of understanding can go a long way!

And back to avoiding the negative stuff. I've had a few people over the last week on here, saying they wished they could have my positivity about all things THFC.

But it's not positivity. It's just a result of knowing absolutely nothing about anything else. It means I just look forward to our games.

And coming onto the site each day, seeing people getting worked up over things that have absolutely no bearing on their day/life, is much more entertaining than anything you'll read in the press.

Don't read it. Don't pay any attention to it. Don't be affected by it!

Hang in there buddy. You've got this ?

I'm fine thanks mate. Main thing is feeling knackered all the time but that's fuck all compared to so many other people.

Get some Vitamin D (if you haven't already).

You can currently get a years supply on Amazon for under a tenna (50% off) and they're the maximum recommended daily dose of 4000ui.

I've been around too many people, nurses, patients, carers who have all known people who have been taking Vitamin D & miraculously avoided, or quickly got over Covid, for it to be a coincidence.

I HAVE TO take them because I'm not allowed to go into direct sunlight. So I get no Vitamin D otherwise.

Worth a try for less than £10 mate.

These are what I buy.

Vitamin D 4,000 IU, Maximum Strength Vitamin D3 Supplement, 365 Easy to Swallow Softgels - Full Year Supply https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072L235Z5/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_94939ACV0JVNCARP6JSP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
