They were literally CL finalists last year and Europa finalists the year before, they might not be experienced in winning but that's still experience and if you think that's a thing that matters (me not so much) then they'd be ahead of us.

I'm wondering, if we score early or the score is drawn around the 80th minute, will their memories of failing in finals haunt them and break their spirit?

What's more, those two sets of fans, but Liverpool especially, walk around dressed head to toe in Liverpool gear much like Klopp does.

In my store I get a lot of builders early morning and there's one in particular that wears his jersey, jacket and tracksuit 4 out of 5 days I reckon. He's about late 40s too. Not that there's anything wrong with it but I dont think grown men should dress head to toe in club gear outside of club staff.

He doesn't wear it if they've had a bad result though. I always mention it to him too. It winds him up so much. I love it.

Not to mention club gear is always a fucking rip-off anyway. If I'm wearing trackie bottoms or whatever it's cos I'm either exercising or doing some job where I don't want to get my good clothes dirty and/or ripped etc. so why you'd want to do that with a 60 quid pair of officially license Liverpool sweatpants etc. is beyond me.

Yes I'm a cheap bastard.

The trouble is, the uefa cup and cup winners cup were completely undermined by more than the champions of each country going into the European cup. Domestic Doubles used to be a lot rarer too, so like others said the cup winners cup became a competition for finalists, and in some cases semi finalists.

The uefa cup was eventually further undermined by allowing the 3rd place group teams from the CL in.

If it were up to me I would have allowed Double winners to enter both competitions lol

So they're serial failures then?

But, in most walks of life, the experience you get from failing at something makes you better at it the next time round. Obviously we can debate about the extent to which the experience of failure makes you stronger, maybe the effect is so minimal that it's not noticeable or it's outweighed by other factors, but it's pretty hard to argue that it has no effect at all.

11 consecutive FA Cup Semi final defeats says otherwise.

Not really, you're complately missing the point. 11 FA Cup semis is irrelevant because
a) a semi in the domestic cup is nothing like the final of the most prestigious competition in club football
b) most of the players have absolutely nothing to do with most of those FA Cup semis. I'm talking about the experience of them playing in the CL final last year being something that will, up to a point, be beneficial to them. And that's something that almost all of the current team were involved in.

Losing in high stakes cup games is the same no matter what cup you're in.
Most of those 11 FA Cup semi's were the biggest games those squads played in because we were rarely in Europe.
2 of them were lost by almost this exact squad give or take 2 or 3 players.

It's become a recurring theme since the 80's ended that Spurs get to within touching distance and blow it. We never recovered and learned to win when we needed to.

I'm not too fussed, what with Liverpools lack of wins in that period either. 1 European Cup since '84 and none for 14 years, Klopp having lost his last 5 finals. They have no more experience than we do. All we have is the weight of expectation to fail. Everyone outside of the club and some fans expects us to lose. That's a very negative thing and it's built over the decades IMO.

And you also said, and I quote "in most walks of life, the experience you get from failing at something makes you better at it the next time round"
In most walks of life, but not the FA Cup, no?

Few Liverpool fans I know - who have never been to Merseyside of course - think they're gonna walk it and spurs are a nothing club trying to force a rivalry.

I just hope we win through a 'dodgy' decision (i.e. any decision which doesn't go their way)

I would love it, if Salah does his usual swan dive when someone puts their hand on his shoulder, reviewed by VAR deemed a dive and gets a second yellow!

In history we were always known as a cup team. Not consistent enough to win a league generally, but on our day in a one off match we were a match for anyone. Coventry is still a nightmare that flashes back to me at times.
So i expect this match to be close, and i dont think who scores first will win. Who scores their second probably will. We (Spurs) should be underestimated at liverpools peril.
Win and we do what bill nic came so close to, close the book of the past, and look forward to the future with new heroes.
Lose, and we go again next year. Avoid Man City next year, and we could be back in another semi at least. We wont fear the german clubs, or juve any more.
