It's not, they tried to extort money from him.
I've missed that bit of the story. The girls appear to have posted the pictures of the sleeping Rooney on social media. This was picked up by a reporter from the Mirror, who then approached them to see if they would sell their story to the paper. As far as I can see, no-one tried to extort money from Rooney, nor is there any mention in the news reports as to what offence his lawyers think may have been committed. (There's clearly an issue regarding the the breach of his privacy, but this would be a civil matter and wouldn't involve the police.)

The girls are scummy for taking the pics but he still shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

He has a wife and kids and is still going out getting plastered out of his brain and leaving the club with women, he can’t help himself.

This is stupidity from him as well.

They’re struggling for players and he’s going around scything through them in training.

The guy is a moron.

I disagree - they're going to be in a battle next season and they need to find some passion from somewhere.

They're only going to go down if he doesn't lead by example in training - this is just an unfortunate accident.

Well I know that but if you're going out getting obliterated and out of control then your players go out and do the same, how is that going to work when you need to reprimand them?

I work in football and I always tell younger players to stay away from situations that could get them into bother. Imagine if I went out and did the same and how invalid my advice becomes.

How do you know he's going out and getting obliterated? What's "out of control"? It's wildly assumptive at this stage.

I can't help but feel like any other gender might be victimised, which is one of the issues in society/equality right now.

There are more pictures of him that haven't been posted in here of him very awake with those girls so the excuse of him being passed out and taken back somewhere probably won't do it

Is that not the shot of him face to face with a girl in a bar/club?

There's a huge difference between dancing together in a club before going to an afterparty and falling asleep (let's face it, most of us have been there done that) vs if he's actually engaged in any sexual activity. We have no proof of whether or not he has.

Yeah seen that one. Looks like she's talking to him, but in the nightclub style where you have to shout in someone's ear.

Doesn't look particularly COVID safe, but assume it's fine by the rules now

No idea why these photos are always taken on phones about to die with no battery

Going by this pic alone, looks like a stitch up to me.

The daft thing is I bet there are girls who hang around the clubs where players go with the intention of trying to get pictures of them doing something that they can sell to the press. It's one of the things you g players must get warned about by their clubs from an early age before they get famous, right? So on that assumption, a guy like Rooney should really know better.

Kids are targeted from 15/16 thank god none of us where could you imagine the pictures would be far more horrific!

Footballers lead a privileged life but it comes at great cost!

As reported today by the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-57989881)
Cheshire Police received a complaint on Monday after images, which were shared widely online, appeared to show the ex-England footballer asleep in a chair with unknown women posing beside him.
Officers said they were satisfied that no offences had taken place.
The Derby County manager said he did not wish to take the matter any further, the force added.

Not excusing it, but this honestly isn't anything new. The likes of Bryan Robson used to get dragged home at 3am, the night before match days, when he was at Boro.

Smartphones have made it easier to catch them out is all.
