Tottenham and England right-back Walker has told pals he hopes his move will happen in the next two weeks, despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy playing hardball over the fee.

I'm hoping he'll be disappointed so we keep him. If not, I hope they pay a fortune and we get a top quality replacement in the moment he leaves.

I don't think there will be a replacement. I think he will promote Trippier and use Walker-Peters as back-up and longer term, a replacement. They rate him very highly, apparently.

I would prefer not to sell but if we do then hopefully we will use the money to add some pace up front - someone who can play wide or through the middle.

'Told pals'

This is a climb down from last week when it was close, or Spurs were waiting for a bid, or City were about to offer something. Or a few days ago when it was about the fee (like it always has been). I guess, in reality, this is a nothing story to fill pages and keep the story alive. It will be about agreeing a fee, as everyone knows.

it situations such as these where i can fully trust our chairman to get the best deal for our club.

his reputation is unshaken and the other chairmen won't even bother to test him
