At the time it was a world record fee for a defender, fair play Daniel, couldn't do much else.
Could have invested the money better, rather than trying to maximize profits on player sales.
But that's Levey.

Maybe you're right. I must be thinking about the hate he got after he left for his "leaving to win trophies" commentSurely everyone loved early Stephen Carr! It helped that he came after a long line of dross.
He was fantastic for us and he’s
been fantastic for City.
Peps got a decent eye for a player!
We’ve never been close to replacing him
And a decent eye for a club that can afford a second, third or fourth attempt at signing the right player if needed (Man City have signed about 10 fullbacks during Guardiola's six years there, with only a minority working out).Peps got a decent eye for a player!
At that time Walker and Rose were without doubt the best two full backs in the country maybe even Europe. Quick, great crossers of the ball always looking to get forward. Oh! how we could do with that now.Depends what you want from your full backs. A lot of people heap praise on Corluka but for me having Walker and Rose haring up and down the flank was the most exciting time for us. I'm more than willing to forgive errors when your energy gives us so many more options in attack.
my missus quite liked CorlukaIn the entire time I've supported I can not think of a single Right Back that was unanimously liked. Every single one was overly criticized from Dean Austin to Emerson.
Walker is perhaps a close second in the popularity stakes to Corluka.
they were quick, energetic and athletic, but definitely not great crossers ?At that time Walker and Rose were without doubt the best two full backs in the country maybe even Europe. Quick, great crossers of the ball always looking to get forward. Oh! how we could do with that now.
Before he went to Newcastle "to win things" Carr was very popular. In the entire time I've supported I can not think of a single Right Back that was unanimously liked. Every single one was overly criticized from Dean Austin to Emerson.

For me, it was about the situation. Many of our fans were happy to sell him at the time

True, but his chance creation is very high for a wing back.I wouldn't class either of them as a 'great crosser of the ball'.

If we had Walker and Rose in their prime right now, half our problems would be gone.
Like I say, his chance creation stats were consistently good.Maybe my memory is shot, but my recollection of Walker for us is that he was pretty useless in the final third. He charge up the wing, stop, look around, roll his studs over the top of the ball and then pass backwards or sideways. On the odd occasion he'd attempt a cross into the box and it was generally rather shite.
For me, it was about the situation.
There were reports that he'd fallen out with Poch and he was interested in going to CIty and playing for Pep.
We focus a lot on his weaknesses but him and Rose at wing back at their best was excellent.
What didn't end up well was our replacement(s).It ended up a good deal all round. We got a huge fee (at the time) for a full-back and he got his move.
He approached Poch in the April of the previous season to tell him he wanted to go which, quite rightly, went down like a cup of hot sick when we were still in with a shout of league & in the FA Cup semi.
We were never going to keep him after that.
