Surely everyone loved early Stephen Carr! It helped that he came after a long line of dross.
Maybe you're right. I must be thinking about the hate he got after he left for his "leaving to win trophies" comment

He was fantastic for us and he’s
been fantastic for City.

Peps got a decent eye for a player!

We’ve never been close to replacing him

Depends what you want from your full backs. A lot of people heap praise on Corluka but for me having Walker and Rose haring up and down the flank was the most exciting time for us. I'm more than willing to forgive errors when your energy gives us so many more options in attack.
At that time Walker and Rose were without doubt the best two full backs in the country maybe even Europe. Quick, great crossers of the ball always looking to get forward. Oh! how we could do with that now.

In the entire time I've supported I can not think of a single Right Back that was unanimously liked. Every single one was overly criticized from Dean Austin to Emerson.

Walker is perhaps a close second in the popularity stakes to Corluka.
my missus quite liked Corluka

they were quick, energetic and athletic, but definitely not great crossers ?

Before he went to Newcastle "to win things" Carr was very popular.

Many of our fans were happy to sell him at the time
For me, it was about the situation.

There were reports that he'd fallen out with Poch and he was interested in going to CIty and playing for Pep.

We focus a lot on his weaknesses but him and Rose at wing back at their best was excellent.

I wouldn't class either of them as a 'great crosser of the ball'.

True, but his chance creation is very high for a wing back.

If we had Walker and Rose in their prime right now, half our problems would be gone.

Maybe my memory is shot, but my recollection of Walker for us is that he was pretty useless in the final third. He'd charge up the wing, stop, look around, roll his studs over the top of the ball and then pass backwards or sideways. On the odd occasion he'd attempt a cross into the box and it was generally rather shite.

Like I say, his chance creation stats were consistently good.

Agree, I was almost the same with Kane when he was wanting out.
I didn't want him to go, but some players are already gone.

Neither Rose or Walker were world class, but they fitted the system we wanted them to play.

Does he regret the sale itself or the dross that he has bought that has come after him

It ended up a good deal all round. We got a huge fee (at the time) for a full-back and he got his move.
He approached Poch in the April of the previous season to tell him he wanted to go which, quite rightly, went down like a cup of hot sick when we were still in with a shout of league & in the FA Cup semi.
We were never going to keep him after that.

What didn't end up well was our replacement(s).
