Way too slow! It was like we didn't have a midfield. Poch needs to start rotating and dropping his favourites. I feel sorry for Son. He was made the scapegoat for a terrible 1st half by the whole team. We had a chance to dazzle tonight and I bet Levy had a whole host of potential sponsors lined up for the new stadium there tonight as well.

Really horrible, frustrating game to watch. I feel sorry for the fans that went. Thank god if wasn't Barca we were playing.

Much work to be done, still not clicking in all gears, at least we have opportunity to fix things
Most depressing part about it was Monaco didn't really do anything of any note and still came away comfortable winners.

Players let Poch down tonight.
Think Poch got team selection wrong also, Son didn't work out and Lamela back in gave them the opening goal, should have started with Sissoko or Dembele, and not carried both Lamela and Son 1st half. Hindsight but with three strong midfielders on the bench we left ourselves weak in the center.

A couple individuals trying to play hero and for the name on the back of their shirt instead of the team. Kane could have played Janssen in on goal and instead tries to cut in and fire a shot from distance, on his weaker foot, and through three defenders.

He had the spirit of Defoe flowing through him.

still waiting for Alli to actually offer something......been way too long
Not his fault poch played him at cm to start off, where he shouldn't be playing. Definitely his fault he still wants to be flash all the time which costs us opportunities (and can often set-off counter attacks for the oppo).

I'm all for poch building 'good vibes' and spirit - absolutely love it, in fact - but he needs some of the players to hate him at times due to him nailing them with a face-melting rollicking.

With the players at his disposal, (and he himself saying he is very happy) Poch should have set out the team differently. I do wonder if he genuinely has anything to coach other than the 4-2-3-1 or an alternative when facing better teams.

Far too many players are being carried game in game out and Eriksen, Kane and Lamela either have to up their games or face the consequences of time on the bench. With four excellent outfield signings Poch can afford to change half of this side and still make a game of it against any PL side.
Absolutely right mate.

Uphill battle from here, really poor result due largely to two incidents of dog shit defending.

Few points from me before I go to drink the pain away -

- Alli is not a CM and needs to play in the three behind the striker, he was outstanding when he went in there second half

- For the first time in a long time for me Kane is no longer nailed on to start a league game. I'd be 50/50 between the two centre forwards for Sunderland if I were the Manager

- We missed Rose badly as, from an attacking point of view, switching it to Davies is not really a threat and if the opposition ties Walker down we struggle for penetration

- The last ten minutes have won me over regarding Sissoko and why we bought him. Hope he starts v Sunderland as he gives us something different

- Dier for all his big-backing and posturing with Fabinho in the penalty box was, as someone else rightly said, hiding in the first half at 0-2 and should have come off earlier. Sounds harsh as I love the guy but after a week when everyone is calling him a future captain now that his contract is signed I think we saw the outfield players with the strongest characters step forward tonight and he wasn't one of them (I am talking about Alli and Alderweireld)

- Lamela needs to be on set pieces

- Thank fuck Dembele is back

- Hopefully this embarrassing defeat shocks them to life

Night all

I was calling for Janssen but in place of Kane not in addition to. We needed speed and the ball to stick up top. How can little Falcao hold the ball up better than Kane (on tonights evidence)?

Cmon now, even if that sub might have made sense can you imagine the uproar if he had made it and the score finished 2-1 still? He would have got slated completely.

A lot of players looked very tired by the end, especially Kane, Alli and Dier. Worrying this early into the season.

Severe lack of pace and ideas.

Son scores two goals against a poor Stoke team and starts in the champions leagues? sorry, not for me.
TBF, he carries some threats on the left.. And his shot at least went past the keeper, but the defender made a good block.. He could have opened the account...

Dier, Kane, Vertonghen, Eriksen.. All woefully out of form.

Can't have that given it's the spine of your team.

Grave concern.

For what it's worth, even more evidence Stoke flattered us massively.

We have more than capable cover for those players. More than.

We just need to see if Poch has the balls.

I still want to know what's happened to our pressing.

I feel like it's become a figment of my imagination and never actually existed.

We did used to relentlessly press, right?

If we'd have taken our chances we'd have won that game.
Yes but longterm it's the performances that matter/are concerning. Similar to losing/drawing but playing well and having a shedload of chances. I would have rather played really well and only gotten a draw out of this game than if we had ended up winning tonight with this crap performance.

Well. That was a pile of old shit.
So, so disappointed. Had chances against a really average Monaco team.
A brain fart from the comically inept Lamela started our demise tonight. We just weren't at it tonight. Gutted.
