Tottenham Squad 2022/23

If I am not mistaken the current make up of the squad is as follows
PL
Home grown - 10
non home grown -15
CL
Club trained - 5
Assoc trained - 3
Group A - 19
With Winks and Reguilon the only ones looking close to leaving at the moment that would get club trained down to 4 and Group A down to 18 so if just those transfers happen one Group A player will not be registered and we have space for one Assoc trained player. If Sar and Gil (both count as u21 in PL) go as well we can get a Group A player and not worry about not registering anyone.

Edit - if Tanganga goes club trained goes to 3 and couldn't be replaced in CL squad other than by getting back another club trained player.

Definitely think we are missing some attacking options in Midfield. We have 4 great defensive minded central midfielders but none of them I would put there to link up play between defence and the front three when we counter.

You only to have to look at our bench on Sunday, which was 5 defenders, 2 holding midfielders and 1 striker to see that there is space for a more attacking/creative midfielder in the squad

When you think that this summer we have swapped:

Gollini, Rodon, Regullion, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks and Bergwijn

with

Forster, Perisic, Spence, Lenglet, Bissouma, Richarlson, not to mention Romero full time and Udogie for next year.

I think it shows how imbalanced and horribly made up our squad was. Hopefully this is a hard reset and we will add the WF and CB we need. Along with re-examining our RWV options in the future.

If we upgrade on Bryan, and target another foreigner in European Competition (apparently includes Dan James etc) does that mean we have to exclude another player from the CL? The most obvious choice being Doherty?

I think we could also do with being able to register Sarr too tbh. We need some HG options, I still think we might move for one no matter how underwhelming. I also think this puts CB to bed for now considering Tanganga is club trained.

Does anyone recall the last time we signed a player in the last 48 hours of the window where it had not already been widely discussed as in negotiations in the media at this point?

maybe Sissoko? Can’t recall whether there had been any noise there. If not that, does it go all the way back to VdV?

Still think the lack of a starting ball playing centre half and right wing back will come back to haunt us.
None of Dier, Sanchez, Davies or royal are at the desired level going forward when we need to break teams down.
Hence the acquisition of Peresic, who shows what a Conte wing back should look like going forward.
The failure to land Bastoni or another starting ball playing centre half is a major blow, perhaps Lengelet will get his chance and address this, maybe Spence gets his chance to show he can do what Peresic does on the other side, but this is a lot of Ifs.

The inability to permanently shift unwanted players has likely seriously impacted our intentions.

So reactionary in here. We've had an exceptional Summer. Conte loved all his options on the bench and the plan B. Sarr showing immense ability in training hence why he's been kept to cover for injuries in midfield. Sanchez is a clean sheet machine so no need for competition for romero and dier because we have it.

Richi showing his versatility tonight by coming on on the right. 3 RWBs is a bit overkill when it's clear we only need 1. Roll on January where we can spend the bulk of our war chest in the market that is notoriously cheap at the best of times let alone off the back of a world cup where some players might have had a good tournament. Roll on Saturday.

Good to see that conte has shaken the inability to win a game when less than 4 days Prep.

OK so take off the 40m we have bought in and then explain where our existing budget has gone. I'll play your numbers game and say we have spent 110m this summer. So that leaves 40m and our existing budget. Which if you go on the average of the last 3 years would be around the 80m mark (two of those years heavily impacted by covid) so that means we should have 120m to spend. So wheres the rest. Or do you honestly think we had no transfer budget and the injection was it.

I just hope it isn't going to be spent on more property that will be transfered in to the other company and what they will probably try and take with them if they ever sell.

Exactly. So I am not expecting any surprises this time.

Most I think would agree that the belief is we hadn't spent all the money we had available for transfers and whilst I know we don't HAVE to spend our entire budget in the window, the stories coming out suggesting we can only afford a loan deal is somewhat concerning. A number of clubs (not just the well known wealthy ones) have significantly out spent us both with and without CL football.

Yesterday West Ham had Paqueta, Lanzini and Cornet available on the bench to try and influence the game. And for us only Richarlison had any special skillset to do so off the bench. The burden of creativity still lies solely on our front 3. I believe Lenglet would add another dimension to our on the ball performance but would definitely have liked genuine upgrades in CM and RWB which take so much pressure off of the front 3.

While we definitely plugged the gaps and stopped us from regressing, I dont think we have really made a leap in quality over the rest of the chasing pack, let alone the top 2. Its a tad disappointing to think we had CL football, one of the best managers, best training facilities, and a 150mn cash injection to start with. But anyway the only thing that matters now is whether Conte is happy with the squad he has and whether he can coach better output out of them.

this is the thing, we always hear we have “x” amount of cash to spend, but we never do? ( yes I know the business we have done has been good, and we don’t HAVE to spend it all) but would be nice to go out and get ONE world class creative midfielder (yes I know ndombele) etc.

Bissouma is a genuine upgrade in midfield once he gets going, don't count it off after a few games.
