The club has launched a dedicated Spanish-language site "latest development in Club’s growing digital offering to a global fanbase...to cater for growing demand for the Club’s content across Spain and Latin America."

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/club-launches-spanish-language-website-161214/?

Figures of 700,00 Spanish speaking followers on Facebook and 50 million fan-base in Spain and Spanish speaking coutnries. Mauricio Pochettino says:
" Growing up in Argentina, Tottenham Hotspur has traditionally had a huge following across Latin America, especially since Argentinian greats Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa joined the Club in the late 1970s and became legends at White Hart Lane, driving greater interest in the English game from this part of the world."

So, just how important do you consider the Global fan-base to be? Do you think developments like this are important or gimmicky? Do you believe the Argentine connection and fan-base had a hand in Pochettino's appointment.

Personally, I believe the Global fan-base is becoming increasingly important and this (Spanish speaking fan-base due, in large part, to Ardiles/Villa signings) is something that we can tap into that none of our rivals really can. And by that, I don't mean having a Global fan-base - I mean have a very strong connection like that. I mean, Liverpool won everything back in the 80's - but mostly with UK/Irish players. There was never an international coup signing of two World Cup winners at the top of their game like the Ardiles/Villa deal, and foreign players full stop were thin on the ground back then.

I really couldn't say if the appointment of Pochettino had the stimulation (oooeeeeeer, missus) of this fan-base in mind. I wouldn't put it past Levy and his advisers, but I would also like to think Poch was an outstanding candidate on footballing grounds as well. As long as that was the case, I would be quite happy for it to be true. When you hear tell of the likes of Messi having supported us when he was a kid, plausible due to the Argentine connection, it makes you wonder if it could give us a leg up in player purchases - hey, we might get Messi...when he's 47 :) Also makes me wonder if Poch was a junior Yiddo as a lad.

Anyway, just a slight piece of news, thought I'd share it.

Makes sense, considering it's a very widely spoken language around the world and we've got a few Spanish speakers in and around the team.

Good news.

Argentina is the most football mad country in the World in my experience.

Most South American countries speak Spanish except Brazil plus Mexico is Spanish speaking of course but not the Falklands !

That's how I see it. Pretty low risk, really. Not much harm, that I can see, from pandering to this fan-base, but could tap a rich vein of summit :)

It'll be interesting to learn the Spanish for "We're disappointed with the result but we'll work hard and try to kick on in the next game".

Here ya go...always happy to help:

Funnily enough, this is exactly how I always imagine @Bus-Conductor to be coming of the late shift and sitting through his collection of Spurs-Under-'Arry-Redknapp VHS tapes for the 749th time :)

The spanish language website is not really a big deal with google translate around. We're not going to tap in to global fanbase when we we play shit and win one trophy in more than a decade.
Smoke and mirrors, like the Real Madrid partnership to make us look like we're going places.
