Received this from Donna Cullen last night (unprompted as I had not been discussing it with her).

" A very strong response will be made to anyone chanting this - it is blatantly racist and a slur on the Club, I have had numerous emails from upset Spurs fans who say they cannot be proud to be associated with it - we have placed observers in the stands for the Chelsea and Portsmouth matches (they will listen out for anti-Sol and anti Semitic chanting too) and will be promoting the TEXT number service to help us identify the seat numbers of offenders - once heard, supporters will be evicted and given a life ban"

Nah, Chelski's manager is a Jew, and the owner is a Russian, there's enough material there that even our Yiddo stance will see some anti-semetic comments come to light.

Just chanting "You're owned by a Russian and run by a Jew!" might even be enough to get you kicked out, even though its just stating the truth.

The problem with the song is that it IS very catchy. The tune has never been used at Spurs before which is why people are still singing it despite the content.

My post in the original thread was something along the lines of it is definitely racist without doubt, but not that racist in the whole context of things (my post was a lot more in depth but i can't remember what i said). Anyway, on the way home from the CC final, a few people were singing it on the trains (not me, i was sticking to pro Spurs songs). There were quite a few black people on the train and that's when i realised i felt very, very uncomfortable and cringey. The thing is, i'd put money on the fact that most people singing it didn't even realise how offensive the song could be, they just see it as a catchy tune about a rival player.

Will be interesting to see if they do put anyone in the crowd. It'll probably just be for the drunk loudmouth that stands up and sings the whole song on his own, aggressively. Same for the Sol song. If anyone picks me up for any of my songs, i'll just make out i was singing Diamond Lights. No-one would admit that, so they may just fall for it...

The tune is really common at the moment, following United making the Ronaldo song aroiund it. However it sounds like some knuckle dragging nob just said "yea I like that tune, I'm gonna makes me a chant for it" and came up with this vulgar piece of shit.

Last year, on the train back to Liverpool St after the 2-2 home game vs Arsenal (Jenas last minute equaliser), there were a bunch of 4 or 5 Spurs fans standing next to me singing Spurs songs. There were also a black, middle aged couple sitting opposite me on the train, both of whom were smiling at the obvious happiness in the carriage. Guessed what happened next yet? The ****s next to me only whacked out that Campbell song :|

I actually didn't see the reaction of the couple, seen as I was now sheepishly looking at my feet, cringing, and embarrassed by the association with them...

Just sing them Vic Reeves club-style.

I take it this is the "Sol Sol wherever you maybe" song rather than the Ledley song

You mean the 'hanging from a tree' song? That's lots of things but it's not racist. Or did the couple happen to be black but that wasn't the point of the story sort-of-thing and you were just embarrassed about the language. If so, yeah it's difficult cos there are lots of funny songs with swearing but that is extreme if you're on a train with 'normal' people. I personally wouldn't sing that song on a train but i have sung others that may contain the odd nut or two...

No, I always considered it racist as well as the rest. Maybe it's just me, but I always associated the line, "hanging from a tree" with lynchings. Now, it may just be that tree rhymes with HIV, but how many people use a tree to hang themselves. They're usually used to hang others. Anyway, I've always found that line a little distasteful for the reasoning already given.

IMO, the Adebayor song is as bad as singing 'Does your boyfriend know you're here' to Brighton fans, or 'you're just a town full of pikeys' or 'the wheels on your house go round and round' to Southend fans. Its not mentioning colour, its just associating a person with a location.

Its like when we say all west ham fans are cab drivers!!
