I dont really know much of the history of why Yid is offensive or racist etc and all I do is associate it with Spurs. It is more synonymous with Spurs than 'jew' in my view. Its to the point where Yid = Spurs rather than Yid - jew.

Anyways my question is - say they do ban the use of Yid - what the hell and how would they police it? Chucking 30k fans out aint going to happen... unless you get the authorities closing doors etc

I'm Jewish. I associate the word 'Yid' with Spurs fans. I have never, ever heard or seen the word used outside of a football context (so even when it is used offensively, it is by Chelsea/West Ham fans).

And that is fine too. For me the bottom line is that many jews, spurs fans and non spurs fans find it offensive. You cannot just ignore that fact
You've either disagreed or wtfed every post I've made. I grew up in Tottenham in the 80s and 90s, and I have a lot of British, Jewish friends. A lot are Spurs fans. I also went to uni abroad and have a lot of Israeli Jewish friends. None have ever been upset by the use of the word and the Israelis who didn't know why we were singing it loved the fact that we were.

If any of them asked me to stop singing it, I would... But they all, to a man, love the fact that we do. Again, I refer you back to the Twitter post @SUIYHA made. I haven't seen it said better yet.

I do know the history. And how do u know they wont stop? Have we ever tried before? Once we stop, the authorities will take it much more seriously and prosecute like they would the n-word

The police quite consistently do absolutely nothing about these incidents in football unless there's a major public outcry. When Baddiel and co jumped on the Yid debate they threw their weight around, equally when Redknapp pushed back against the Campbell chants there were convictions. But when the media isn't watching there's Campbell chants every year, there's anti-semitism, there's homophobia and they couldn't care less. Their priority seems to be keeping order at the match and if they can do that without attracting attention or critism and let the chants go they will. It's not right but that's the way it is and it's got very, very little to do with whether we keep using the term or not.

No one is (or at least no one posting here is) ignoring that fact. But folks are weighing that fact amongst others and coming to a different conclusion than you.

Guess what. They're entitled to. It'd be nice if you would stop ignoring that fact.

Why don't u contribute something worthwhile mate

I did a few pages ago attempt to have a discussion with you but you instead just started throwing negative ratings around at everyone who disagrees with you and your only contribution is to keep posting articles by obscure nobodies and acting like they speak for the entire Jewish population of the world when in fact several actual Jewish people on here have told you that that doesn't represent their views. Theres very little point in trying to discuss anything with someone like you.

Im Jewish , my late father was an an Aushwitz suvivor
I have supported Spurs man and boy for over 60 years and my two sons who are in their thities have too.
I grew up in the East End of London and fought against Jordan and Tyndal who ran the British Nazi Party and we smashed them.
I have fought anti semitism ( now disguised as anti Zionism ) my whole life.
I am proud as are my boys to be called a Tottenham Yid and proud of the solidarity shown by the Tottenham fans. I am also proud to be called a Jew.
There are many Jews who are uncomfortable about being a Jew(Yid) they want to hide under the cloak of just being British and not be picked out ,very similar to the Jews of pre war Germany, it didnt help them.
I m a proud British Jew and not afraid to say so and hate the fact that a load of weak hearted Jews are leading this ban campaign . We are what we are and singing
and chanting Yid songs with our fellow supporters will not highten the anti semitism that exists, that will never go away.
So as far as my boys and I are concerned we can truly say thet tried to stop us and look what they did.,.........
WE are very proud to be Tottenham Yids

Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't the word "yid" literally translate as "Jew" in Yiddish?

Therefore, isn't the problem not that people use the word "Jew", but the hate and negativity that people have towards people of Jewish faith?

So by being scared or uncomfortable to use it, are you not simply cowing to that hate?

Maybe I'm oversimplifying things, but I don't think it's that hard to understand.

I understand both sides of the argument. If people are uncomfortable with us singing about being the Yids then that is understandable, regardless of whether I agree or not.

But why people think others having a different viewpoint means they don’t understand or are ignorant is beyond me.

Yeah, like I posted earlier in the thread, I've sang it at the end of the Park Lane/Shelfside song, but its not up to me at all.

I wonder if banning one word, would that lead indirectly to banning racists?
If you pick a dainty flower off a weed, to you remove the root of the weed?
If you have headaches and take pain relief too often, do you remove the pain relief or do you address the head ache?

So if you ban Yid, what is the next, grand scheme of fighting racism. And if there is a different, next step approach to fight racism, why is that approach not the place to start now?

One thing you could do, is to ban spectators entirely in the Premier League. Remove all spectators from all stadiums at all rounds and slowly re-introduce some number of fans bit by bit until clubs, fans, broadcasters and associations see that their livelihood, revenue and entertainment is taken away until they sort of racism among themselves.

Baddiel, are you envious? Do you struggle internally with supporting a club with underlying racism among the fans, and wish you were a Tottenham fan? Well take a stance against racism, not against Tottenham. Come over to our side, chant Yid, and show the difference between true racism and pure camaraderie.

And being a Spurs fan shouting Yid isn't racism. It's an all for one, one for all unified approach of going high when others go low.
So stop the petty attacks on Tottenham's fans.

Yep one side has to start the process which I believe the club are beginning to do. We have to take the lead because other clubs wont do it first. For them, they will call us f****** y*** because we call ourselves that.
I tried to do some gardening this summer, it was late May and the football season was over, so I had to occupy myself, even with something I'm not very skilled at. I had some bindweed around the garden, and it didn't look very nice to me. So I picked off what I could see, maybe I scratched the surface of the soil to pick a bit at the roots and stuff. But predominantly I removed what met the eye, the easy stuff, and I thought the garden looked good. 6 weeks later, the bindweed was back in full force, and I had to do it all over again.

I was just out in my garden, it's lovely in the sunshine and it's a great place to socialise and meet friends, too. Only 4 weeks after last time I did such a great job at removing some weed, behold there it is again, and more fully than in May,

I’m sick of saying it but as an observant Jewish THFC fan, everyone can just F**k Off,......I will never stop singing YIDARMY, even if, the police threaten to arrest me

It is the most powerful and profound message of ANTIRACISM in football and is one of 100s of reasons why I love this club so much

The likes of Baddiel has shifted the focus from his Neanderthal racist fans to us, not because he’s bothered by anti-Semitism, but because every time he hears Spurs sing yid army it draws into stark contrast the vilensss of his own suppor t base and it makes him ashamed to be a Chelsea fan.....welll good. He should be ashamed to be a Chelsea fan.

So again, let the whole world go f**k themselves, we are now and will forever be the YID ARMY, and this Jewish spurs fan loves the club and our fan base for it

rant over !

If only 50% of those filling it in provide it, those that do provide it tend to say they "love being a Yid", and those that don't provide membership numbers say "Trophy Dodging Spurs scum are all a bunch of racists P.S. Heil Hitler", then it should be pretty obvious what's happened.
I didn’t provide mine because there’s no way I’d give Spurs a detail that they can cross reference with my seat number if they try to ban the Yid chants
