I don't believe Chadli coming would mean we're out of the hunt for Bernard. Chadli is capable of playing on both wings and I have seen enough of him to believe he could play as a striker too, in the same way Thierry Henry was converted. Signing him would allow us to sell one of Defore or Adebayor, as well as maybe Townsend while still giving us cover for all these positions. We need a team of capable players that we can comfortably rotate without substantially lowering the quality and Chadli would definitely allow us to do this, if not be one of the surprises of the season. The guy has pace, power, technique and an eye for goal, everything that we require, and at a price that we can easily cover by selling probably only one or two unwanted players. This is smart business that would allow us to continue to look at the likes of Bernard and Soldado while at the same time improving on the current squad and not affecting the budget significantly.

well, he's certainly not a midfielder either. the more advanced he plays, the more value he has to us as his goals are probably the only asset he has. and I'm not trying to diminish that, I think in the end he was an important player last year.

if he stays, I think he'll be a cover for a left inside forward.

Yep and I think we get hung up on having out and out strikers which is strange considering we've been crying out for an all round forward, practically every Spurs fan has admitted this and what's more the game has well and truly moved on from having out and out strikers and seemingly so has AVB.

As long as we replace the goals then we're all good.

Real Madrid have two "strikers" yet they scored over 100 goals last season.

This is all if Chadli passes a medical!

Check out how injury prone he was last season:

Season From To Injury
12/13 30.01.2013 13.03.2013 Strain
12/13 04.11.2012 03.12.2012 Malleolar injury
12/13 20.08.2012 14.09.2012
11/12 25.07.2011 16.10.2011 Knee Problems

Edit: that table pasted like crap on my ipad. Here's the link: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/nacer-chadli/profil/spieler_59631.html

being injured is not the same as injury prone. It's not clear from that ever-so-detailed information whether it is the same injury or not. Same injury = prone and a worry.

Malleolar is the ankle?

WE ARE NOT SPENDING £30m + ON ONE PLAYER. Is that clear enough for you?
Right I love Lamela as probably most do but I cant see him being signed!
1-Hes expensive.
2-I think we need a tricky player like Bernard instead of a direct player like Lamela. Everybody says hes thriving because of Ronaldinho but im sure he'd thrive in our squad!

Chadli will be a very welcomed signing, hope it's true :D. He's the type of player we need - good quality and a decent price.

Also the cause of the injury, you cant blame a player for being injured if he gets wiped out by a No-neck-a-saurus wearing a football shirt.

Paulinho > Parker

Chadli > Dempsey

If Soldado happens,
Soldado > Ade (if Ade plays like he did last season)

3 signings to improve first XI - Surely Paulinho, Chadli & Soldado should score/setup more goals than the other trio.

I agree it's hard to pin down his position but an old fashioned inside left or wide forward is about the closest you can get. All the Fulham fans I spoke to said he wasn't a genuine striker, my own observations backed this up, Martin Jol said the same and so did Dempsey himself.

Imo, if we want to compete at the top end of the table we need 3 strikers, even if they are competing for 1 place. Injuries, suspensions, rotation, having game changers on the bench etc. 2 is simply not enough.

If we play 4-3-3 then someone like Remy would make sense, as he could play as a genuine striker and a wide forward. If we sold defoe/Ade and replaced them with Remy, whilst bringing in another quality striker I think we would be in good shape striker wise.

Anyway, back on topic, I don't really know much about Chadli. Did he play for Twente when we played them in the CL?. I remember they had one player who looked the business but can't remember who it was.

I think this is a fantastic point. We've really upgraded if these all come off, and in Paulinho/Chadli we got substantially younger as well.

And, when you consider the players we have coming back from injury/loan, we might improve 3 additional spots. Possibly Kaboul over Dawson (I know, I'm not sure how this will play out despite Daws being El Capitan), Rose over BAE (Rose was decent last year, BAE flat out awful, this might be an upgrade) and Sandro back shielding the defense (no explanation necessary).

chadli,paulinho,soldado 50mln
hudd,parker,livermore,dempsey,benny,adebayor 30mln

20mln that would cost us could be a title challenging team imo

Chadli perhaps points to Dempsey and perhaps moreso Townsend who was reported by ITK going.

I also think IMO that we'll not pursue Bernand if this deal goes through and put resources into finding a striker and perhaps additional defender.
