I honestly think this thread is pointless until we know what European competition we will be participating in next season.

Playing in the EL limits the market for us considerably
Like playing in the CL opened up the market for us......

Playing EL just provides an excuse for our parsimony I don’t think which tournament we are in makes the slightest difference to our transfer activity as the period since 2010 when we first qualified for CL has demonstrated.

Genuinely not trying to start an argument here, but do have a question... Would you consider the club parsimonious if they spent on incoming transfers what was generated by sales and the accounts showed only a small profit at the end of the year? If so, why?

If we spent on incoming transfers what we generated on sales we would show a very significant profit as we have done for the last few years so your hypothetical question isn’t valid. So let me flip it on you, if we continue to have zero net spend, healthy profit and zero progression in the squad would you be happy ?

If there was no evidence of those profits being ploughed back into the club then I would get the hump. But surely the significant profits that have been made from 2014 onwards (mostly due to the increase in TV revenue I think) have been used to support the stadium build? I defer to you on this as I know you possess accountancy expertise, but there's no evidence of ENIC trousering the money is there? They know they stand to make nearly £2bn profit when they sell up, so I can't see how a few tens of millions would be of any great interest.

I’m learning from past experiences and not derailing this thread. If you want to discuss the club’s finances I’m happy to do so via PM.

Ok getting back on track as every thread is having the same posts ploughed into them....

Lots of news stories linking us to Frederico Chiesa from Fiorentina. Ive watched the standard youtube highlights but has anyone seen him actually play?

Yes. Superb player. One of the best dribblers I've watched, Spurs fans would love him. Much better prospect than Bernadeschi, who went to Juve last summer. I doubt we'll get him, however. He'll cost a lot.

If anything wages will be what stops us getting the better players. I used to think the European competition mattered but to be honest seeing Arsenal and Chelsea sign some good players whilst playing in the Europa makes me think it isn’t the be all and end all.

Yes, some players who are at the very very top will come out and say they will only go to a champions league club, but I don’t feel like we try for those players regardless.

Certainly the likes of Grealish, Brooks, and a few more on the list wouldn’t turn their noses up at us if we end up playing Europa league footy. Of course this isn’t me saying it would be anything other than a huge failure if we don’t get champions league again this season.

For me we need a freshen up and some youth bringing in. Wan Bissaka, Sessegon, Brooks, Grealish, Berge, Werner. Would improve the squad and give it balance. Would then allow over next windows to bring in maybe just 1 big signing in and start chasing game changers like Sancho, Dembele etc

Ok, I'm clueless on any player outside the PL, so can anyone enlighten me/us about these....

This morning, BBC gossip links us (and Arseanal, but they may have to sell Ozil before making a move) with Villareal midfielder, Pablo Fornals.

N'dombele has popped up again, but Man City, United & Juventus are mentioned in the same sentence.

Argentina International, Giovani Lo Celso (on loan at Real Betis from PSG) is suggested as a replacement for Eriksen if he leaves for Madrid. But Betis have an option to make his loan move permanent (£21.5m) and Real Madrid are also interested.

I mentioned Fornals in this thread before. In fact only yesterday. A few links below.

Net spend is the norm under Enic and that IMO is likely to continue after spending 1bn on a new shiny stadium.

And the fact Poch apparently has a list of just a handful of players that he wants costing copious amounts of money im not sure what we think will happen.

That ls not to mention the huge risk of losing out on a CL spot and the impact that will have in bringing in players.

I wouldn't be surprised if its another frustrating summer like last year, I really wouldn't.

It makes no difference what competition you're in. Players only care about the amount they are getting paid. Give them enough money and they will suffer being out of the champions league for a season. We've seen it so many times.

Didn't seem to effect the purchases of that lot down the road.

They also 'suffer' not making bench in domestic game. £350kpw for not working is a dream job !!

Anyone got any thoughts on Lucas Digne? I haven't seen much apart from MOTD and the odd live game but I've been fairly impressed by him lately.
