No doubt about the Grealish bollocks job. That had Levy all over it. Thing is we've never dined at that top table when it comes to transfers too often. We've lost the ability to identify talent - I understand the Levy factor may well again be in play when it comes to paying fees etc but we haven't even sniffed another Sanchez like purchase since he came in.

Toby leaving is still his own doing - it was his representitives choice to do what they did. As far as Eriksen goes, seems his choice again. I want to shout about Spurs not ponying up the cash to keep them, but it's fuck all to do with that for a change.

We will have to evolve. Perhaps Pochs comments yesterday have a pointed meaning to them at every level at the club, hope he includes himself when he talks our 'level'

We're above our station and we've all seem to have forgotten who we are exactly.

Oh I agree we’ve over-achieved over the last few years but this in itself creates problems in terms of expectation. Couple this with the most expensive ticket prices in the world and fans will inevitably feel disappointed if we slip out of the top 4.

Financially speaking a regression wouldn’t be great either. Try enticing top tier sponsors, naming rights partners etc when we’re playing in the Europa League rather than the CL- it’s much more difficult.

Yeah, the pains of watching a team play in a brand new stadium ...

I'm sure it factors in but it's about building the brand, the same thing in principle about attracting top players to come to Spurs if we're not in the Champions League blah blah blah - like it fucking matters? Players move for the cash, the rest of it is just hot air.

Firms will plough money in if they think it benefits them short or long term, just the same as a player and his agent will.

Spurs have seemed to lack a definitive direction in the transfer market for some time now. The Summer window was a fucking shambles and the winter one was as bad.

With the sale of Eriksen and Toby there will be cash and they will need to reinvest it. Whether you our I have any confidence in it will pale into insignificance if both the man who writes the cheques or the man who creates the tactics get it as wrong as they have in the last year.

I don't think we are at all. This is a defeatist view that serves to remove blame of a action less and scared hierarchy. Above our station in what way? We are one of the most historically prestigious clubs in the land, one the clubs of the best financial history for decades runnings, one of the clubs with the largest international following, one of the clubs with the largest financial spending for years (but money has gone to infrastructure, not players), we have had decades and decades of being used to really iconic players going down in all historic hall of fames, and we have enjoyed continental football more often that not. So what exactly is this station that we are supposed to be above? If anything, we are performing on par with our standing, and some PR marketing spin is being put out there than on par equals "above". It doesn't. We are Tottenham, and we should, ought to and can be a top 4 CL competing club.

We've won fuck all in years, our history counts for shit in modern day terms unless you're a Spurs fan. We're no where near as large globally as those around us.

If the top six is a thing we're the last one in to the top six and we have a fucking age to catch up to them.

We might want to win something before we think we belong.

I can see the writing on the wall. Towards the end of the last window, the ITK started spinning the narrative that it was not Levy holding back but rather Poch not wanting the players put forward. The key here is that Poch doesn't have his own back channels/ITK, but the club do so we'll never really know who he's after or what is actually taking place between him and the club behind the scenes. Without his side of the story it becomes easy for the club/Levy to put these competing narratives out there (that Poch is stubborn etc).

So I fully expect them to shift the blame on Poch this summer if Levy doesn't get his bargain basement deals. It was shameful enough this past window, but will be worse if they try to pull it off again despite Poch pulling trees to get us where we are this season. I understand Poch is not perfect, but he has done a heck of a job to reserve the right to get his type of players. I honestly don't know of any other manager who could've done a better job given the circumstances this season, with the stadium delay, world cup, multitude of injuries at key points in the season and the constant speculation surrounding him.

If last summer wasn't massive enough, then this summer will practically make or break this club. Levy cannot play his games this time and in Poch we have a manager who is calling his bluff. No more sub standard, poor quality alternatives for players. There is never a substitute for quality which almost always comes at a premium. That's something Levy will never understand.

P.S. If we don't make CL this season, then I can quite easily see the club making excuses that we can't sign top quality players because we'll be short CL money and the lower appeal due to lack of CL. That's another way I can see this unfolding. Although keep in mind that it never kept the likes of Chelski from spending that kind of money CL or not.
There will always be excuses mate nothing will change and agree with your post.

Grealish today showing he’s ready for a step up. He’s looked good this season albeit with some time out injured.

The way he reaponded today given the circumstances showed that he has some leadership material in him too. That and he’s been made captain of course.

He just looks very comfortable on the ball, can hold players off and win free kicks as well.

Anyone else see the parallels to 2010/11 ? Qualify for CL QF, watch league form tail off as team is knackered, go from comfortable 3rd to just about make 4th, fail to do anything in January transfer window other than pathetic loans, speculation about our manager leaving, ITK about big plans for the summer (I recall JJ saying we were after Hazard). Let’s hope the parallels don’t continue for the remainder of the season. Levy has been remarkably consistent in the 8 years, spend nothing.

As this is the wishlist i would love a player like reus in. His constant movement and intelligent runs against us caused us problems in the return leg in dortmund.

Eriksen form seems to just be stagnating as there has been no threat on his position but now with dele back i would drop him and get a top top attacking mid in for competition.

Hate to say it but lamela and moura are not good enough to push us on. And some re investment for right winger is needed.

To state the obvious full backs need a complete overhaul, need some serious investment in the middle and need to replace all the better players that go onto clubs challenging for trophies, it’s called the accumulation effect from doing fuck all previously...

I know this may sound crazy, but I think the team needs a couple of winners added to allow the young squad to learn that winning mentality from. One player who comes to mind when I have thought for what player is Giorgio Chellini. A player who knows how to win titles and big tournaments. Another player who would be amazing would be Sergio Ramos (even though his is the opponent I love to hate when we play against him), I know that this is probably a wild fantasy but a player with that winning mentality, added to the squad with our other additions (if any) in the summer, I feel would help take us to the next level we are so desperate to get to.

Cue the funny / wtf ratings !!! :)

This is not a young squad anymore. Lloris, Toby, Jan, Rose, Sissoko, Eriksen, even Kane are all experiences pros.

Toby, Eriksen and Rose could all be off in the summer and would likely be replaced with young(er) players. Chiellini would be a stonking signing imo (Ramos is just a ****), but as I say we'd probably bring in another youngster to develop and shuffle Foyth up the order.

Chiellini is a class act, but he’s not gonna want to swap the comfort of Serie A for the harsh physical nature of the PL at his age. He can stroll through 80% of their games and save himself for the big few domestic and European ones.

I honestly think this thread is pointless until we know what European competition we will be participating in next season.

Playing in the EL limits the market for us considerably
