Anyone think James Milner on a Bosman would be worth it. Not a glamour signing in any way but he's tough as an old boot, masses of experience and can play just about anywhere. I'd say not a bad HG option as a squad player.

I think a fair few would, but are too shit scared to admit it.

I would.

'Cover' at FB, DM & CM for free, keeping funds for a quality addition or two in the areas we desperately need to improve in.

As a fill-in option, I don't see many negatives other than age, but he's been around the block & could be a good influence (mentor?) for some of our younger players.

Even now, I'd use him before Wanyama or Dier (who I actually like & rate), simply because he's actually able to run. The guy can pick a pass, too.

This would be fair comment if it wasn't coming from the guy who spent most of the morning arguing for Schmeichel to replace Lloris.

Bankrolling teams to the extent of which City are, is a poison to football. They’re even more dangerous than Chelsea were initially under Abramovich, in that they’re not just stockpiling talent to stop others, but genuinely buying the best young talent in the world (bar the players that choose Real or Barca). I hope we have a damn good go at bringing in some exciting players to reinvigorate our squad this summer, but I can’t see us catching City over the course of a season.

I imagine that they will sign another CM too.

If they get Fernandes, Felix and bolster their defence then seriously what's the point in even having a league competition?

It will become a cheque writing competition (as if it isn't that already!)

Lallana, Mitrovic, Dunk & Duffy, Rondon and now Milner?

Fucking hell!
Three of those named (Rondon, Milner, Lallana) have a very sound rationale behind their inclusion but reasonable minds can disagree. The other 3 may have their respective merits but would be less reasonable options considering tactical fit, workrate, etc. IDK exactly how any would rise to the "fucking hell" level of outrage though. Maybe underwhelming but not outrageously so in my mind.

Nobody will. Liverpool definitely won't when VAR comes in, thats for sure

So?
I was not vouching for Spurs buying Lallana.

I know. I just thought his was worth looking at. Neither have had that many compared to who we currently have at the club. If we brought in Milner and Lallana for say Wanyama and Pamela, wed be better off. They'd play more games. Not that I think we will sign either.

If you’d actually read the conversation I wasn’t but ok

I read the conversation. You started by very much advocating replacing Lloris with Schmeichel & as the responses flowed in you were talked down from the ledge and regained a sense of sanity.

It's all good my Danish Yiddo brother. (y)

Because even with all of those players they will still have a gaping weakness that was exploitable this year. Most teams couldn't exploit it and neither could we. It would be surprising for someone like Guardiola to allow such a deficiency.

Fernandes is in no way a replacement for Fernandinho. I would even say I'd expect him to be a liability at the base of MF. Thus, they will still need an 8 and cover for the 6.

I admittedly know nothing about Felix but at 19 I have my doubts about his ability to contribute next year and will assume he is another overhyped Lusophone player until shown otherwise.

But if we do something approaching reasonable business this summer then it will be competitive and be able to exploit their weakness.
