We're also a couple of games away from nothing in the CL and a place in the Europa League with a squad that are out on their feet. Reinforcements would have been a massive help.

I agree we should have brought some players in, we don't really know why we didn't, be it Poch or no funds, but I feel to call it ridiculous decision making when the decision not to buy has still got us where we are as we speak, is imo ridiculous.
If we buy 10 players next season i would settle for CL semi and 3rd this time next year.

Yes and no. You’re absolutely right about how well we’ve done this season.

But you can only stretch an elastic band so far before it snaps. It was a risky decision to not buy anyone, and we may well be ok this time. But equally, we’re also four games away from not winning the CL and not qualifying for it next season, and that may well come down to a threadbare squad that would have benefited from a couple of decent signings.

Either way, there is a clear need to invest this summer with at leat Wanyama and Lamela looking more and more busted. I don’t think we should ever be in a situation either where we have to rely on Llorente and Janssen at the same time to win a Premier League game
Whose to say the new players would have got us to where we are today
Sissoko would have been out of the team, Son may have been out
Yes we should have brought in a few, but my point is it didn't prove to be a ridiculous decision as the outcome has been a success so far

i think we are where we are inspite of this, not because of it. IMO it was a massive gamble given the summer exploits of so many of our players to bring nobody in. To do the same in January was (IMO) a mixture of myopic and arrogant and I feel that those pidgeons are now coming home to roost. Frommbitter previous experiences, I'm trying to prepare for an extremely disappointing end to the season. At the very best, our hopes are in the hands of others.

Again, I agree with your central point about us getting this far and given all the additional factors like the World Cup, injuries, Son’s international duty, stadium delays etc. Poch has done incredibly well.

But given that we’re more settled than Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal, we should have breezed the top four, and we haven’t- we’re sort of clinging on like a battered heavyweight in the 12th round of a fight he’s marginally ahead of. Also, if we had invested in the window, we could have spent the season integrating those players so we’d keep our edge over Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Like you say, most of this is academic until the end of the season. I just wish we weren’t going into a semi final of the most prestigious cup in Europe with the prospect of playing out of form players or players out of position

I'm not suggesting this should be our transfer policy first off and we should aim high with a couple of marquee signings but does anybody think there any any players in the bottom half of the prem that we should/could be looking to pick up to add some depth. I think there are players there with prem experience that Poch could improve and could be good options for us. Mitorvic is a good example. I've seen promise in Bissouma at Brighton.

Mitrovic is just a fatter, more confident Janssen

This a a reasonable well put argument,
My issue was with some of the ott comments by others
We are doing amazingly, not the time for negatively

Ryan Fraser.

But go even lower down & Grealish is the one to add what our midfield sorely lacks.

We need movement in the final 3rd we get to the opposition box slowly and have let them set up to defend and we just pass the ball side to side not penetrating as we have nobody making clever runs or anyone to take a player on. This needs to be addressed.

Zaha
Ousmane demebele (rumours last year)
Pepe
Bale

Eriksen has the ability to pick them out if they make the runs, if he leaves we need quality like for like and someone like coutinho if he would come back to the prem.

Big bucks required but is what's needed to bridge the gap

It’s a tricky one regarding the numbers in the squad, personally I feel the numbers are just right , we have coped with the amount of injuries we’ve occurred but the squad quality not depth is the problem.

I’m just waiting for all the lazy pundits to start saying about teams needing to “strengthen”.
Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool have “strengthened” every window, pretty much. What good has it done? Especially in the case of the first three.
We actually DO need to strengthen the squad. But who’s to say it will actually pay dividends? We don’t really know. Everything is just speculation and conjecture until then.

We could do a lot worse than Lucas Digne and Gerrard Delofeu. Both having good seasons and a bit under the radar.

That said there are probably more important places to upgrade upon.

Don't see Delofeu as consistent enough. Admittedly not watched him much this season, but in years gone by he always struck me as a player that turned up and performed occasionally as opposed to regularly.

I'd not be adverse to Digne.

Missing through injury for long periods this season

Kane
Winks
Dier
Alli
Wanyama
Aurier
Lamela

also been out at some point

Sissoko
Rose
Jan
Trips

I think have being playing with injuries ( I could be wrong, think I've read they were)

Eriksen
Moura
Jan

Sons been off to Korea twice

no pre season

I'm not sure any team could have dealt with that list any better than we have. We could have bought in a couple but they would have had to replace someone on this list and integrated into the squad

We need to buy but the club know better than us who is knackered and running on fumes, and who is playing with injuries (Dier played Man City without getting back to proper training I heard).

I think he looks like the type of player that with the right coach can do it every week.

To add to my list tielemans looks the buisness too

As some of you know I have retired from posting ITK on here, mainly due to some of the cockwombles on here, but with the transfer window thread due to open shortly, I wanted to remind you that this site doesn't run on air.
It costs a lot to run so I thought it timely to remind you to put you hands in your pockets and donate . I for one would have to find something else to do and I'm too old to take up other hobbies.
This window will be busy so let's get some dosh rolling in before Rob announces he's having to shut the site down.
