That's true - although on the flip side we have no more "easy" games of playing the bottom six at the Lane.

We're in good form and Liverpool are a mess, and we could go seven clear of them if we win next week. But if you aren't lumping money on them to beat us then you either haven't been watching Tottenham for long or you're too stupid to figure out how this stuff works.

I think you need to get a ticket back to the mid 1990's. You seem to miss it.

We could win every game from now until the end of the season, and if they maintain their form thus far Chelsea would still win the league. Of course it's never 100% until it's mathematically confirmed, but it's definitely not in our hands - we need to play as well as we have been consistently for the rest of the year, and hope their form regresses from 'one of the best ever Premier League records' to 'just about getting a Champions League place'. They didn't lift the cup today, but if they play not even well for the rest of the season but merely semi-competently for a club of their resources they unfortunately will do so come April or May. All we can do is fight for every point available, cease any opportunity they do present us (and hopefully wrap up 2nd in the process) and go for the glory of the cups.

I just did the maths. If we win every game we'd have 92 points.
If they maintained their current form they'd have 93.
That'd be hard to swallow.

Although we would break their/Arsenals winning streak.

All we can do is keep going and keep fighting, and be right there if Chelsea slip up.

The mentality of most of you in here is pathetic.

Exactly. If we went on the longest winning streak in Premier League history, it still probably wouldn't be quite enough. And I love this team, the commitment they show, how it's all coming together under Poch - but I've seen nothing to suggest we can do that when we seem to lack both the quality in depth and the ability to be clinical enough against sides restricting our chances to go on such a run.

All we can do is keep going and keep fighting, and be right there if Chelsea slip up.

Nobody's disagreeing with that. But the thread is "Race for the title", it's pretty reasonable to point out that Usain Bolt is currently five metres ahead of the field and doesn't show any sign of slowing down. Sure, he could trip over his own shoelaces in which case we have a chance and we need to fight for it regardless - but he probably won't.

The thing about Chelsea is they just win against weaker sides. No draws, just win after win.
We have to go away to West Ham, Palace, Liverpool, Hull, Swansea, Burnley and Leicester. All weak teams desperate for points. We will end up drawing a few of those.

One game at a time.

Win next week puts some daylight between us and 4th, although that's going to be a bloody hard task - so definitely don't lose.

Just keep on the coat tails and not drop off like last season.

If they had a few injuries like we have they'd draw a few too. If we'd had our best 11 all season we'd probably have won those games we had drawn.

would just like to remind everyone that it is the first week of February, not May or even April.

Of course, its Chelsea's to lose and overhauling 9 points is a huge ask. It unlikely but not impossible. I seem to remember Fergie's Man U losing a 8 point lead in April to City.

We expect the players go out and have some balls, so maybe some fans need to grow a pair too.

Who exactly has said otherwise?

What I see is a realistic appraisal of the situation, one which is also being stated outside of this club's supporters by fans and the media.

Comments from other clubs forums are regularly posted on here and are routinely mocked for their exaggerated myopic nature.

If an opposing supporter came on here who would be the deluded Spurs supporter in their eyes?

Would it be the supporter who accepts that a 10 point differential is highly unlikely to be overturned in the circumstances or the supporter who states that anything is possible, that there is 14 games to go and cites Newcastle as an example?

We know the answer to that one.

There is little sense in being blindingly optimistic just as there isn't any sense in being blindingly pessimistic. It is about being realistic, there is nothing remotely wrong with being that.

Its the start of February ffs.

Nothing is over yet. They're big favourites but nothing is decided yet.

If we do manage to close the gap in the coming weeks it might exert some pressure, and we don't need a defeatist attitude if things get interesting come the business end of the season.

Plenty of people? Loads saying it's over.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Believe me now???? I am not a negative fan as people thought... but the title is done, dusted - give it to them now!"

"Title over with this win for Chelsea. Now a matter of trying to come top 4 and win one of the cups."

"As much as I love Arsenal losing, this means the end of the title race imo."

"Our goals: Finish above Arsenal and lay those demons to rest. Win the FA cup Finish 2nd"

"Yeah it's over"

"Game Over. Have we got a 'race for CL' thread?"

They are saying that any challenge for the title is over ( which in all likelihood is) not that we simply give up and fold.

It's about resetting objectives rather than focusing on fantasies and lost causes, that's abundantly clear.

There isn't a single supporter who does not want us to finish the highest we could, for us to put in the maximum that we can.

It's now becomes a question of priority, what is the best course of action for the club to succeed this season. For me to follow the same strategy as last season would be complete madness on our part.

Which strategy was that? Not concentrating on the cups?

Focusing our efforts on one campaign at the expense of others. We have adopted this approach for close to a decade now and our silverware haul demonstrates its success.

Poch has declared the team is ready for a challenge to the title, and I am buying it no matter how many are already conceding it to chelscum..

For those who think we are categorically out of the race for the title, what do you think the consequence of that is? I don't think Poch and the team are as pessimistic as some but, regardless, we are still going to prioritise the league over Europa and FA Cup. No way will we play a weakened team in the league to save players for Europa/FA - unless/until we are talking about the final of Europa/FA and our league position is established.

I happen to agree with that approach but that's not the point: I believe that is how Levy/the club look at it.

So how do we 'reset' our objectives? Should we no longer aim to win all our matches?
