I may be wrong, but didn't we beat Chelsea at the Lane by playing 4231? Surely, as a one-off, putting Vertongham at LB would have been better than throwing Son under the bus. It's not like Jan hasn't played there for Belgium. And he would have been a more formidable opponent for Moses by several country miles.-

We played 343 when we beat them at the Lane.

As for our home game against the scum Mk 2, I really couldn't say. However, I certainly agree on Verts at LB, Son is just not a defender and I think it was a serious tactical error to have him at LWB and I believe that was the primary reason for the loss.

Fair enough. Still think Jan at LB should have been the call on Saturday.

I reckon if we had done that and lost people would be questioning why he took Jan out. I was at the game and there was only a couple of times we looked weak down the left in the first half and one resulted in the pen. The biggest problem was going forward i felt we either had no natural width or no pace so playing either Son or Jan out there wouldn't have made that much a difference not to mention as well as weakening our defence.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte critical of Manchester clubs' summer spending

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte made a veiled criticism of Manchester United and Manchester City's transfer spending, saying money does not guarantee success.

Now, I like Conte. A charismatic fellow, terrific player in his day, seems like a leader, has been respectful to opponents this season and has conducted himself well ...but give me a fucking break.

Is he really not aware that he is managing a club built on one billion pounds worth of money stolen from the Russian people?
Muppet

Sure but if Chelsea had spent money wisely and run the club better when Mourinho first took over they could have dominated English football for years.

For all their spending we are currently outperforming 4 teams who spend a lot more than us.

Conte is right, money is no guarantee. But it's us proving that, not Chelsea.

Tomorrow night's match is arguably our most important match of the season. Yes we're at the stage of the season where every next game is the most important one yet, however should we go away to one of the in-form sides of the league at the moment, who are beating big boys for fun, having just lost to the team we're trying to catch in the league in an FA Cup Semi-Final, it would show powers of recovery and mental strength that are just the complete opposite of what we know to be Spursy.

I really believe that if we can beat Palace, we'll go on to beat Arsenal. And should we get 6 points from our next two games and should Chelsea fail to match that tally with their respective matches, I really believe we'll go on to win the league. Jesus I feel silly even saying that o_O

View from Saintsweb. They're not confident, and they seem more interested in making sure that we don't win the league.

As shown today, we are best when we play on the front foot, for me, it just doesn't happen enough.

They are much better defensively than city, 2-0 Chelsea.

Soundly beaten
Probably easier than today against city

Our results against the Top 6 have been very disappointing thus far.

LLLDDLLL (scored 4) so far - compare that to last season LWDLWWWDLWWW (scored 24) difference is the approach and respect we now seem to have for the BIG 6

Chelsea have far more to lose, we need to get at them fast and early. Make them nervous, don't let them settle and dictate without a fight.

Easy home win. 3-0

Must win for (Chelsea)!

Mixed feelings about this. Obviously want us to get a result, but hopefully not at the expense of Spurs winning the title.

I'm fairly confident of a defeat here but the pressure is massively on Chelsea now. Even a draw could put Spurs within striking distance ahead of the next fixtures.

With a little more effort there's every chance we can steal this one.I so much want a Saints win but not to let Spurs go any higher.

Against any half decent attacks we've conceded a lot of chances and quite a few goals. Clean sheets have either been against dross, or teams having an off day in front of goal like Bournemouth.

In the pass I'd think we had a chance in games like this but can't see anything this year. Given nothing to play for and no expectations I'd hope we'd go and get at them. Chelsea haven't kept a clean sheet in a long time now after all. So it's going to be 3-0 isn't it. Stephens v Costa is very worrying, but at least Romeu is back to help out.

On the bright side least it will ruin any chance of spurs winning the league.

Chelsea have a striker in poor form and a defence that can't keep a clean sheet. We all know what this means right?

I never want to see Saints lose but, to give one example, laughing at the irate seething at us on Spurs' messageboards after we lost to Leicester last season massively softened the blow.

Hazard will go down like a sack of **** every time Romeu breaths on him, the Ref will lap it up and Wilian will be creaming himself at the chance to take free kicks at a static Forster all game.

Chelsea 4 - 0 Southampton

i'm going and i totally agree with him, there's not a position on the pitch they're not better than us in, they have some very significant to play for and we're on the beach. It'll be a fairly solid beating, i'm guessing 3-0 at least, though there won't be any shame in that as they're going to be champions.

I don't really feel that there were many clear chances that were created by either of us. They scored from a direct free kick, a penalty and a lottery shot. That doesn't tell me that they go in too easy. It was just one of those days.
Even Hazard's wasn't a clear cut chance - it was a good opportunity but most players wouldn't have been capable of sticking the ball where he did.

The fuck is their problem? They operate a very similar model to us but are a few years behind in its development - they should be pleased to see us doing so well and excited about their own future!

Not really, they need a leap forward to get near us, bear in mind we qualified for europe every season for about 10 years. Given that they are not in London and are not a traditional power, there is a limit on how big they can get. Every time they have a half decent player or manager, that player is poached by a larger club.

Don't expect any favors from Southampton. Chelsea beat them easy. Weird how obsessed Southampton are with Spurs as if we're rivals. Yes we've taken a few of their players...who hasn't!?

So the fans of the South Coast Big Club proving beyond doubt they are, of course, the South Coast Small Club. Jeez small club mentality or what from their fans.

So bitter, they once tried tried to argue no-one should leave their club to join Spurs because they were the "Juventus of the south coast" lol... :p

We'll surely that's because each result really does influence how things are likely to play out. That fa cup semi was HUGE for so may reasons. We can 100% absolutely forget the league now, chelseas confidence will be sky high, they'll steam roller southampton and the pressure will really be on us away to the most in form team in the league, I hope we win but I can see our boys being effected by the fa cup loss and possibly drawing or losing. Arsenal then off the back of their win in the fa cup beat Leicester and then are also now sky high coming into the NLD.

If we'd beaten Chelsea their blip would've been turning into a rut/crisis and they may have then slipped up vs Southampton, we'd be bulletproof vs palace and its game on.

Football is as much a mental and momentum game as it is physical and tactical. That being said you just never know what will happen but I for one am now a little worried we may well end up 3/4th. And looking at man.citys run in its easily possible for them to overtake us.

Every game now is huge but Wednesday especially, we really need to bounce back with a win, HUGE TEST OF OUR TEAMS CHARACTER NOW, Have they learnt from last season or not.

COYS.
Sorry but there is probably more of a case to say each defeat has only made us stronger this year. Especially supposedly damaging cup defeats. For example,
lost to Monaco at home, then smashed Stoke 4-0 away.
Lost to Leverkusen, Champs league dream basically over, smashed Soton 4-1 away.

I don't get all the massive negativity? Are we men or boys? If I lose a game in my Sunday league side, I walk out ever more determined next time out. I don't sulk or feel like I have no confidence.

It's flaky and pathetic.

I am pleased we have a manager who believes the same and the players don't feed off some of the fans who have no bollocks.

If Southampton park the bus from kick off and get a 0-0 I'll be delighted. An absolute non-entity of a game and 90 minutes I'll never get back but it's fine.

A draw here and we win tommorow takes it to one point going into Sunday. Everton on eight game win streak at home, us in the last ever WHL derby.
