Football pitches that practically went into the stands. When throws ins you could practically touch the players.. That smell of deep heat all the players used.. In the stands when the whole crowd would move like an ebbing tide back n forth.. The orange casey on a snowy winters day.. And some of the pitches so beat up it was like a battlefield..

I distinctly remember wing on the bus going to a night game in winter, when I got to the Angel Edmonton you could see the glow of the floodlights in a haze in the distance, when I got the ground the haze was created by all the burger and hotdog stands and the smell of those mixed in with peanuts, unforgettable.

My old man was a Liverpool fan.. We grew up with him playing his o Liverpool we love you album.. Lily the pink, and tales of shankly.. The first time he took me to anfield.. Must've been about 1980. Garth crooks in the 80th minute to beat them for the first time in 21 years.. Priceless..

That was first trip to Anfield, me and my mate went on some shitty footy special rattler, my voice was gone at the end!! What a day!!????

I was sold the second he held that underground ticket and declared... "I want this to become my ticket to the dreams"

No, actually scrap that. My love for Spurs comes from my late Dad. He came from East Finchley, he never really was a football fan as such, but Tottenham were his team.

...and I look much nicer in white as opposed to red. I mean, come on, as if.

I was born into it Dad Grandad Uncles all support or supported them stories of great games and players. Taken along to games as a kid and sent down the front standing on a box at the front of the old boys enclosure it was a passage of rites. Lived just round the corner to the ground growing up and used to love the atmosphere on match days the general build up down the High Road until kick off.

Had some great days and nights watching this lot cried like a baby when Moura scored the third in Amsterdam sadly wasnt there in the flesh but have been to every Spurs cup final since 73 won't be there on Sunday. Being in Madrid for a European cup final I couldn't believe it the amount of times I checked the bag for the tickets on the way there - whata day we had in Madrid and Bilbao the night before - what a shame we were robbed by that pen

Of course there have been frustrations and what I would have given to have won the League so bloody close a couple of times - this season has been so strange not going to the ground every other week which had been part of my life since I was a kid has been odd, I still haven't really got used to the new place but lets hope we get back soon so I can be the moany old bloke at the back again
This is brilliant mate loving people’s stories. My dad lived round the corner from the ground growing up too and like you say it was a passage of rights.

Amazing you’ve been to all the cup finals since 73!! Must have been some incredible memories and journeys along the way.

Agree about the build up to the CL final in Madrid the atmosphere in the fans tents etc singing in the sun for hours and hours was pure bliss. We actually accidentally booked our train tickets for the wrong day!! Luckily there were some spare ones when we got there otherwise we’d have been in Spain but not able to get to Madrid in time for the game!!!

I love the new Stadium credit where it’s due levy and co have done one heck of a job on it! But like you I’m not quite used to it yet, hopefully we can be back there soon, so strange after having had a season ticket for 25+ years to not be going week in week out.

thanks for sharing mate

I stood on The Shelf, believe it or not ?, right in line with the 18yrd box, Park Lane end. When it was full it was fecking packed like sardines and the atmosphere was one of danger and excitement for a young lad, you never knew when or where it might kick off, the games against the big clubs and the notorious (aggro) clubs were equally as exciting, the game felt more real back then, everything, the football, the players, the fans, even the stadiums had an identity and a character of their own, you only had to look at a pic of one stand and you could immediately identify which team it belonged to and none of it was sanitised as it is now, sure we've had some truly great nights at WHL mark2, which ironically was the best for atmosphere, just a shame we couldn't pack another 10k in, it would've pissed all over the fabled Anfield, but there just this thing about the 70's & 80's. I can't explain it in words, maybe it's just because I was young and impressionable, I imagine it's the same for lads growing up in the last 15-20yrs, but the game, the players and increasingly the clubs seem to be becoming ever more detached from the fans, which are the heart and soul of ANY football club! Maybe I'm just getting old as I've seen it all before or I'm just too cynical these days, but I do miss those days, days of freedom you could say, you could wake up on a Saturday morning and make a snap decision and think fuck it, I will go to Birmingham away and just jump on a train and away you went. They were good days
This is brilliant mate, yea I can imagine it felt a lot more ‘real’ back then. I love hearing these stories as I think the money in the game has changed the game and it must be great for fans like yourself who’ve supported us through the time when football was more ‘real’ but then also now when it’s more commercialised but also a lot safer. (Pros and cons ey)

Yea completely get that about missing how it used to be in being able to just go to any game if you wanted and it be a lot more affordable etc, even just small things like queuing up at the ticket office to buy tickets and seeing the players come into the ground all these things brought closeness and connection between fans and clubs, great memories I bet. Really interesting hearing about it all.

My old man has similar stories and feelings to this.

Pat jennings.. Never saw a goalie quite like pat.. Rather than some dramatic all out theatrical dive across the goal.. Pat would ease himself across the goal line and just pluck the ball out of the air with one hand.... Magical..
Yea I’ve heard that one hand thing about Pat, apparently he had these huge hands, phenomenal goalie ey!

This is another things about Spurs in that we’ve always been good enough to be a decent side but we’ve never consistently been top dogs so we end up with these records against certain sides having not beaten them for 15-20 years etc so when we finally do it feels like we’ve won the league!
love it!

Because we’re the biggest club in London. Who are Arsenal’s biggest rivals? Chelsea’s? West Ham’s? They’re obsessed with us. There’s something special about this club no matter how much we try and fuck it up.
That’s so true mate, I love how much they all love to hate us, why... because they’re jealous! They’re so obsessed with us, especially Chelsea & West Ham, it’s cute really haha Wankers!

Wow rosettes now we're talking.. Saturday on with the kit. 3 scarves. 1 for each wrist, 1 round the neck.. A pendant round the neck. 2 rosettes on ya shirt and a bobble hat full of badges.. Now there is a memory.and the wooden rattle that could wake the dead.
I see images from the older games and it looked spectacular with all the people dressed up to the 9’s in Spurs gear and yea with rosettes and those rattle things especially in FA cup finals? So different back then.

Found these from 1967!

Probably not the brightest child but Spurs wore white shirts and navy shorts. Had Gazza and Lineker playing... Must be England right?

By the time I realised they weren't and that England hadn't just won the FA cup in 91 they were already in my heart.

Haha that’s brilliant mate! It is quite cool as an English club team that our kit resembles the England national team and I think we’ve had the most players play for england too, probably why we’ve won so little ?? but that’s a great story!

My love came from my dad as I’m sure that’s the case with a lot of us. My first games I can remember were sitting in the north stand watching Newcastle, Coventry and Clyde Best with West Ham. Also going up to Wembley for the 71 league cup final against villa and my dad getting tickets off a tout and he never did anything like that.
Getting to the lane for the uefa final 2nd leg with about 20 mins to kick off and walking straight in whereas people in the crowd next to us saying they’d been queuing for hours...what a night that was..at the end for the penalties as well...brilliant.
The world class players I’ve had the privilege to see wear the Lillywhite shirt, Jurgen, King, Van Der Vaart, Ardiles, Gascoigne and many others. Those that weren’t world class but were still very much ‘class’.... Mabbsy, Perryman, Roberts, Archibald..the list goes on. Like a few dads mentioned I wax lyrical to my son about Hoddle, I’d walk barefoot over broken glass to watch him play...as my dad would do the same for Greavsie....still to this day he can’t talk about Spurs without mentioning him....lovely.
Now it’s about going to the games with my son, just moved our tickets to the south stand, I wasn’t sure but he was adamant...we shall see......and I really miss that whole match day experience with him. As much as they’ve pissed me off these last 18 months I still love this club and I always will...why wouldn’t you...

I ued to work with this scouser in Southport. Every year we would meet up at about 10 an get the train into Liverpool, hit the pubs then off to Anfield and have an all day binge..last 2 times we never ended up leaving the pub.. Sometimes the atmosphere in some of the pubs was just awesome.. ??

I grew up in a mainly blue scum area with a few Goons thrown in.

I wanted to support a team that had once been trailblazers but were in almost terminal decline.

Never once doubted I made the right choice.

Really lovely stories mate.
Good old ticket touts too haha those were the days.
My old man went to the UEFA 2ng leg final said it was the best game and atmosphere he’d ever been to!
We’ve been lucky with some generational talents at spurs haven’t we like you say Greaves, Hoddle and probably now Kane the same.
Hope we can get back to going to games soo, like you say regardless off the result that match day experience is something I think we all miss.
We have tickets in shelf and south, both good atmosphere and views at the new place :)
Hope we can get back to the games oon
