I love spurs because:

It gives me and my dad's relationship something special. I know that sounds cheesey. But its true. I love our chats about football and spurs. Whenever we've played we're straight on the phone to discuss it. He didn't want Jose. Said he played dinosaur football. I wanted him, said he's a winner. When we were top I was saying 'told you dad'. Obviously he's now saying 'told you son'. And I love that. Bit of banter. Bit like SC but with a bit more love :)

He also tells me quite often how Glenn Hoddle is the best player he's seen and how most of our players today 'aren't fit to lace his boots'

I live up north so supporting spurs isn't that common. And I quite like that too. I also like that nobody can call me a glory hunter!

1975 Spurs v Burnley, sat in the Paxton, only 25,000 in the ground, but the noise got me hooked and we won 2-1. When I started going on my own with my mates watching Hoddle etc there was no going back. The players we've had and the maverick style of football is Tottenham Hotspur.
What was the atmosphere back like then in the 70’s mate? Not full match attendance but still standing right so tightly packed in? The noise of WHL is such a buzz! And agree we’ve had some great maverick style players over the years which have lit up WHL

My first match.. My dad even tho he was a Liverpool fan took me to white Hart Lane for the first time.. It was 1975, I was 8.. Tottenham 2 Luton 0.. Martin chivers scored both.. I got to visit the Steve Perryman shop on the corner of the ground.. My childhood hero.. A great captain.. Martin Peters.. Alfie conn.. Cyril Knowles..my second childhood hero Pat jennings one of the greatest goalkeepers ever. Ralph Coates.. It was always a team of a handful of maestros.. Steve Archibald.. Klinnsman.. Dav-eed ginola.. My third childhood hero Glenn hoddle, so beautiful with a football. Ardilles. Defoes 5 against Wigan.. Gazza.. Mabbutt.. My wife got me captains table tickets to see Tottenham beat arsenal in the last season at White Hart Lane and after the game we got to meet Gary Mabbutt and Darren (sicknote) Anderton.. A special afternoon.. And i have always been proud to say I'm a spurs fan even in those bleak years of late 70s early 80s.0ssies wonderful... In the cup for totting-ham and chas an dave.. Wonderful times.. . coys.
Love this mate! So great memories and names there! stuff to be proud of.
chas and Dave Spurs songs too great shout.

Mabbutt is a legend bet he was good to talk to, I randomly met Anderson at Wimbledon tennis a few years back he was pleasant enough but he was limping ;) kidding...

Going back to the Jol era, it was just fantastic as a fan. The club made so many strides in what was quite a short space of time. We got there organically with a likeable manager and team.

Add all the players people mention above like Klinsmann, Sheringham, Berbatov, King, Van der Vaart and our current hero. There has been a lot to enjoy and football to me is a break from the tedium of work and everyday life. I'm sure that there will be more to enjoy in the future.
Love it mate completely agree about that Jol era I think some me that’s when we really properly transcended from mid table nothingness to genuine European contenders and Jol the big bear brought us some great times.

Also as you say football is a great break and distraction from the rigours of daily worklife. As I posted above that first win over Chelsea in 16 years under Jol at WHL was a real turning point.

Same as me mate, not cheesy at all, for me that’s one of the special things about football and in our case Spurs it can bring family close together, it’s a huge part of me and my families life and I love it that way.

Must be cool hearing about your dad tell you about Hoddle etc, mine does the same, hopefully we can tell kids, grandkids etc about Harry Kane etc.

Good on you for being a Spurs northerner , certainly can’t be called a glory hunter haha! Legend

For me it's simple. It's a family thing. My family come from Hackney and as far as I'm aware they have followed the club since its foundation. My Grandfather and his brother took my dad to White Hart Lane. My brother and his family support them and still go to watch. My daughters and and one Son in Law are fans. Their children are fans. My cousin is a fan. Growing up in the 60's most of the kids in our school were Spurs fans l would say 90% of them supported one London club or another. Moving to Cornwall I was surprised how many supported Leeds or Utd or Liverpool. Very few supported Plymouth who are our local team. Although our 6 year old grandsons 2nd team is Plymouth and we have taken him to see them.

My mums family were Spurs. Me and my Dad go to games (or did lol) and its great. Not at the minute granted.
I moved to East Coast when I was 11 and when people ask me how come I support Spurs I say because I'm a glory hunter lol.
Edit. Also wanted to mention the closure of White Heart Lane, fk that had me in tears. It was fantastic to feel part of that.

Love it mate. East coast of England or East coast of Australia lol?!
and yes that final season at WHL had me in tears too, check out the vid I linked above of the 16/17 season, very cool vid and some special special times and as you say fantastic to be a part of it. The rainbow that appeared on the day that sat in the background of the finale photos was fate, it was raining but there was this beautiful rainbow, we won the game, whole season unbeaten and the atmosphere and emotions were on another level.

Exactly the same sentiment and situation I have with my dad. We definitely come to disagreements about the club but he is also adamant about Hoddle....and Greavesy. Hated the Jose appointment too!

I'm from the North too! Although there are a few from my hometown kicking about. After all it's the hometown of Billy Nic

Enduring anticipation of achievement is, perhaps, a greater feeling than achievement itself?

And a pretty cool metaphor for life.

??Love it.. Ye Mabbutt was just a thoroughly lovely bloke.. Forgot as well cliff Jones was there.. I know almost blashemic forgetting cliff Jones.. As. Close to royalty as you get.... I'm sure it's not just prejudice or familiarity but why do spurs seem to have really nice guys at the club. Where as man United and arsenal seem to attract shits. Ye its always been a great team to support. I remember getting the Tottenham hotspur story and reading about the double winners and how we lost 2 players the next year.. John White struck by lightning... I was totally hooked.. 2 of the best football songs ever.. Jimmy greaves.. Dave (the beast) mckay . What a great club..

I was taken to WHL back in 1966/67 when Spurs played Man U. I knew this would always be my team to support, no matter what.
Tough time now but I still love them.

Haha I know what you mean, constantly being so close but not really quite getting there but then building up to something again it’s the journey that is the best bit, winning can top it off but with Spurs it’s literally Forrest Gump ‘a box of chocolates and you never know what you’re gunna get’ but everyone loves chocolates so it’s all good in the end :)

What was the score mate? We’re man.I the 2nd best team back then? What was the stadium and going to the match like back then?
As you say tough time now but that love for the club will remain forever and always and good times will return.
