When does spring training start

MLB is in a labor lockout.......47 days now i believe.

Doesn't sound like negotiations are going great at moment but MLB knows that they can't miss many games and not lose fans so who knows.

Once lockout is over then there will be a quick free agent period and spring training.

What’s the problem? I only follow MLB in the season

Owners and players' union far apart on what they want the new collective bargaining agreement to be. Owners basically want to maintain the status quo with some tweaks. Players want some bigger changes in terms of revenue sharing and pushing the smaller market teams (like teams in smaller cities) to spend more on players. Basically money. As always.

There's quite a few complexities to what the players want versus what the owners are offering. And it's not just as simple as a higher salary cap. There's issues like not being able to get into free agency until after 6 years I think and other things like instituting a minimum salary floor so that the worst teams are forced to spend more.

What Shohei Ohtani is doing over the past 18 months is ridiculous. He should be the highest paid player in baseball.

Middle of the 5th and the Toronto Blue Jays are 25-3 up vs Boston.

25 runs is a new record for the Blue Jays. The highest score by any team is 36. Still time...

Been getting into baseball for the last three seasons... Im ofcourse a Padres fan because I love San Diego... Why do I keep supporting teams that don't win... What the fuck is that about

I like the fact there is a game pretty much everyday. I don't watch every game but its cool to like just shove something on when not much is on.

The Padres are above .500 and in one of the fancy new playoff spots! Prior to the last three seasons they were a laughingstock. You picked a good time to get in.

Yeah I know theyre one of the better ones at the moment but recently losing far too many games. Their offense is poor but hopefully once Tatis comes back and perhaps getting Soto - things will improve on that front.

What I find fascinating is the trade type stuff - so different to football. Like to get Soto youll need to give up five or six players... ridiculous.

Coming from North American sports the idea that you can just buy players you like seems equally ridiculous!

It’s possible that you could do that over here - I haven’t read all the rules, maybe there’s one that says you can’t - but culturally I don’t think a fan base would countenance losing a player and all the team got in return was more cash for the owner.

I totally get that - the way trades happen is foreign to both americans and the rest. I mean im a Seahawks fan, to see Russell Wilson traded for a far inferior QB plus a few draft picks who may or may not work out is a bit like us giving up Kane for Werner plus a few youth players.

I digress but the MLS doesnt adopt that same approach, or maybe it does but I dont know but they have bought a few players such as Insigne and Bernadeschi - or is that just for designated players?

I guess the contracts are set out differently and how its all set up being franchises etc. I am getting used to it and do find it fascinating in a good way.

MLS does involve “money” trading. It’s been a few years since I followed the league closely and its rules are wildly complex, but you can trade a player for “allocation money” which is of some use somehow (possibly to get around the salary cap, it’s been a while).

But they also have to play in the international transfer market, so “clubs” can go out and buy players. I say “club” because they’re all actually owned by MLS and MLS has to buy the player and assign to a club. It works in reverse too; buying clubs pay MLS, which then distributes some of the money back to the club.

Astros pitch combined no-hitter with 4 pitchers to even series at two games apiece. Where did they find Javier? best scouting department in. MLB.

Yeah, that was not a fun game to watch for me. When it got to the ninth, I was just hoping that someone would get a hit. The loss was bad, but getting no hit at home in the WS, is awful. I'm hoping that the "no back to back losses" trend continues. It's been a good series though, regardless of what happens.
