I know there's a lot of daft panic going about lately, with equally daft and over the top postings, but this is something I do actually agree with and something that, hopefully, can be legitamately discussed
I would have thought that they'd be at least 4 or 5 pre-scouted targets for every position in the squad, whose clubs could be contacted in the close season, a price agreed, wages agreed and then one of our targets would become a Spurs player
Not sure what the hold-up is to be honest
That's how I used to do it in Championship Manager
Okay so here's my take on it in light of recent comments by Pochettino and Levy:
I understand that we have the finances to strengthen the team with a player within our reach but that player needs to attainable and affordable price wise. They also need to be aware that they won't come in as a starting player and content with a bench role added to the fact that what we pay them will be significantly lower then what they could possibly earn sitting on somebody else's bench or even starting for them. Not to mention our strict policy of bringing someone in who has to be of Poch's liking to be able to fit into the squad dynamic and the philosophy...now if you take all those factors into account and realise that our starting XI cannot be improved on then we face a very difficult task to upgrade the team.
Of course we could always go for players who are seen as unproven such as Nkoudou and Janssen but then that's what they essentially are, gambles and they are players that we need to work with as we can't just write them off like the money clubs do because that would be seen as a bad investment and taking into account our current financial climate then we can ill afford to take those risks, we took a huge risk last season in Sissoko and it backfired so I can certainly see why we are airing on the side of caution this time around.
We're in a very strange situation, one that we've never been in before and I can kind of understand the fans' frustrations especially seeing our rivals spend like it's going out of fashion as well as clubs who are beneath us but I tend to lean on the side of the people who got us here in the first place, I like to think that these guys know what they're doing and as Poch keeps saying they have a plan in place to ensure that we can compete going into the season, why all of a sudden are some fans so quick to think that those same people are happy to destabilise the club and undo all their good work, it doesn't make any sense.
I think we just need to wait until towards of the transfer window, as we're not in desperate need to strengthen the first team we can relax a bit, there are deals to be done, club's will drop their values because they want to get deals done, players will drop their wage demands because they want to get moves, agents will want to push deals through because they want to get paid, it's what happens every season, I have absolutely no doubt that players will come in but on OUR terms and that requires patience.
