...is the new name for the award to be given to the best player in MLS. How cringe is this? The guy is fucking 32 years old and has been a decent player, but not much more. I understand hero worship and wanting to honor the guy, but...really??!!

Anyway, Clint Dempsey has always been a better footballer than Donovan.

Donovan is a hero/legend in American football (not NFL obviously), I think it's a fitting award. His performances helped skyrocket the popularity of the game in the States. When he scored that goal vs Algeria, the nation's position on the sport changed literally overnight. Dempsey is probably the better player but he's not had the same impact, Donovan was the pioneer whereas Dempsey is more just like his heir/successor.

He could have been a better player, but took the easy road. That's how i'll remember him. But i do appreciate what he did for the sport here in the states
