It’s pretty disgraceful if you ask me. Makes a mockery of an already poorly run sport.
Surely there should be a loophole when damages are caused by the track - rather than by the team/driver.

But, I suppose this is consistent with the penalty if the damage was caused by another on-track driver.

Another interesting side note - I wonder how teams deal with a late-season expense like this when it comes to their budgets/cost caps. Because of Red Bull's dominance, I assume they have plenty of room left under the cap - given they have not had to work as hard on upgrades as other teams. But, I also think a team like Red Bull utilizes as much cap room as they possibly can (or even a little above....)

A few hours less wind tunnel won't hurt many teams if they go over anyway.

This entire event was so stupid. Holding this at a time of year where a large portion of the country will likely be less able to attend due to work obligations since a national holiday is in like 3 days, staging the events at a time of day when it sucks for everyone in the country except for Hawaii, and the track just does not seem like it makes for even remotely enjoyable viewing. Cool idea in theory though. And hey at least you made some money, F1!

Ah that might save Logan’s seat. Starting P6! P7 in qualifying & 2 tenths behind Albon in a worse car. Might be something there after all. If anything, he’s better than Latifi. Well done. Locking out the 3rd row is not something i’d have thought i’d see Williams do this season. Double points would be unbelievable for them & fun to see.

The only thing that can save Sargent's seat is the fact that his contract is comparatively cheaper than other drivers.

He likely lost his ride 3-4 crashes ago. He has 1 point on the season, Liam Lawson has 2, Magnusson has 3, Zhou has 6 (as does Danny Ric), his teammate has 27.....he is objectively a driver who shouldn't have a ride, he just doesn't have the talent, pair that with driving for a lesser funded team and he is doomed to live at the bottom of the standings piling up DNFs.

I don't think that's going to be the only crash today.

No grip out there.

That start was like Turn 1 at Monzo in any (online) racing game.

Severe penalty for Verstappen there...

Verstappen quite clearly forces Charles off track and the stewards take an absolute age to give him…a 5 second penalty. Followed by that entitled little brat mocking them on the radio.

This sport died when they screwed Lewis.

The race has been a lot better than I expected.

Pleased for Leclerc, should have won the race.

Used to love F1 but haven't watched a single race since Verstappen was handed his first title (and I'm no Hamilton fan either). F1 has gone down the pan but Verstappen is an unflushable turd.

Exactly the same. That was a disgrace and I have boycotted it since

Checo with a fantastic drive up through the field, Ocon had a fun time, Piastri's overtakes were real hold-your-breath moments (I'm really starting to like Piastri).

Leclerc is easily as talented a driver as Verstappen who just bullied his way up through the field - that collision with Russell was arguable in a lot of ways, Max is ridiculously good at putting himself in positions where the other driver has to decide if they want to back off or have a collision, first corner aside as that was mostly him being a dick to the Ferrari and he 100% deserved the penalty.

No point in getting pissed at the whiny team radios or the attitude that Red Bull/Verstappen carry around, they don't care. They're winning, they don't care what anyone else thinks of them. Results are what matter at the end of the day, none of them took on the job to make friends.

Yes and no. it was an egregiously bad call - but, to be fair, what killed the sport was Red Bull's dominance these last two seasons since then.

The combination of Horner and Verstappen are hard to celebrate, and/or root for - and given that no other team has been close, it makes a mockery of the notion this is a "competition". And, while Verstappen is clearly a top driver, it's hard to decide how much is car v. driver.

I generally root for Mercedes, and Hamilton - but I have a soft spot for McLaren so it's been fun to watch them progress after a terrible start this season. In an ideal world, the Mercs get their design change right for next year, McLaren continues to progress, and Ferrari get a new team of race strategists.

The cost cap kills off any potential of teams catching up quickly. We have to wait for the new regs before anyone can compete with RB sadly.

It is definitely driver though, the form of Perez just proves that.

I don’t think that proves anything. It’s possible that the majority of the teams effort and resources are being put behind Verstappen.

Verstappen is undoubtedly a very very good driver. But there’s clearly a huge advantage from his car, just like Hamilton had an overwhelming advantage for a long time. That’s F1, but it’s never been quite this stark before.

Not only that red bull broke the budget rules and only got a fine.

I am glad the season is coming to an end. Utter domination by 1 driver.

thing the only highlight will be.... do you remember that race in Singapore when he actually didn't win? :sorry:

hopefully next year will be more exciting.

I have absolutely no interest in F1 and that has upset a few people at work as I’m off to a major F1 company tomorrow. If one teams performance takes a drastic dip I’ve had a mare. Soz.
Off again for a couple of days to see a different F1 Team. My job would be way cooler if I was into this stuff.

I’ve enjoyed watching this year, hadn’t been into F1 for about a decade or so now. I just ignore Verstappen, whoever finishes second is my race winner 😂

Yeah, for me I tuned out of the race for the lead years ago. Have found much more enjoyment (and pain) following the teams outside of the big 3 (Williams and McLaren mainly). Any given race week usually has some fun behind leader, and I enjoy following the tech and development side of things. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy a fight for first when it appears, it is just never as common as it should be.

Unfortunately, although it was great to watch a Brit at the top, I found Hamilton's run post Rosberg just as boring. Yes Vettel might put up a bit of a fight until the summer, or Botta's might beat him in Quali the odd week, but Hamilton was pretty much always favourite (2021 aside).

So this year hasn't felt that different to 2020 for example. Last year feeling a bit like a previous Ferrari challenger year with Vettel. Great promise at the start but falling away all on their own mid-season.
