Wow - for anyone relatively new to watching F1, wondering why all the hype over Alonso having a half decent car under him again, watch this first clip. Schumacher chasing Alonso at Imola in 2005

(edit - linked it as F1 won't let it embed)

Miami was so boring, really hoping Mercedes Imola upgrades take them a bit closer to Aston Martin and Ferrari and that they can build on that to slowly close the gap on RB.

It seems some teams are starting to figure out Reb Bulls trick but as always it'll take a while to make the changes in development and even then RB has a massive head start to build on.

Already seeing comments from Russell downplaying the Imola upgrades...

Hmm, going to be touch and go for the race at the weekend - this is the view outside of the Red Bull hotel;

Not much better at the track either. I believe this is support and F2 equipment.

Local services are stretched and infrastructure broken. It shouldn't go ahead but I can see Liberty delaying a decision until the last minute.

Hope mercedes upgrades this weekend are some rubber rings around the car! Not sure I have ever seen a track like that!

Agree on the cancellation. Bummed for no racing this weekend, I was looking forward to seeing some of the team upgrades, but clearly the region is not in a condition to support the race.

I wonder if there is an opening later in the season where they might be able to move the race - could be a good way to raise some revenue for all the businesses in the area who will be receiving from the flooding, and missing out on race-week revenue.

It was really the only realistic option they had to cancel the race.

I am with you that it is disappointing to not seeing any racing this week. Could see if cutting the August break by a week could fit a make up in it. Makes me wonder if they had not had the 3 week break early in the season if would have given them more flexibility to make the race up at some point.

Imola is a stinker in the wet, so unpredictable, it's almost as exciting as Spa but with apparently even less traction the moment someone sweats within a mile of the circuit so I suspect that has factored in to the decision... that and the three feet of water :D

This has been a tough season to keep up with. The races have been non-competitive, and we are approaching the end of May, and there have only been 5 races.

I think there is still one big issue that the Mercs won't be able to address until next season - the weight distribution, which currently has the drivers further forward than they would like. They probably need to reconfigure the insides to move weight around.

Tried to hit reply, my speng eye clicked dislike - cleaned it off but that was my bad.

That would really explain a lot of the porpoising issues they had with it early on, but how does it end up that the drivers are too far forward? Surely there's been some sort of breakdown between the designers, the engineers and the garage there? If they're further forward than they want them to be, it makes no sense that a designer would've done that, that sounds a lot like a compromise over something after the chassis was set.

I think it has to do with the weight distribution.

For their part, Mercedes claim the cockpit is not further forward this year - but it does sit further forward than Red Bull and Ferrari - by a matter of inches, but at that level I suppose everything is magnified.
