Anyone who starts crediting Levy for any of this will be hunted down and buggered senseless with a fish fork.
I could be wrong, but I thought Toby's release clause expired with 2 weeks remaining in the transfer window - therefore, if it was triggered, we would have those final two weeks to sign a replacement.
No so sure about that.
In case of a PL team, signing Toby late gives them no pre-season to organise their defence, and runs the risk of being gazumped.
And whoever we sign, Sanchez will likely be the starter anyway, at least early on. So doesn't really destabilise us like the Berbatov days.
My theory as I posted in the player thread is that clubs aren't bidding as his people have told them he's seeing out his contract for a final pay day.
To make up for the £10-15m in lost earnings by staying on £60k p/w for 2-3 years.
If so, his agent or advisors are absolutely useless.

Go on Daniel...we always knew you had it in you. Even the miserable bear.
Well done baldy
Presumably he pockets a nice signing on fee in lieu of a transfer fee. Personally I think it unlikely he will get a step up and so he might be thinking of returning to Ajax, mind you I suppose the Italians are always fond of a mature defender.I agree, i think he stays for another season tbh but can see why as he'll get more money going on a free with a signing on bonus and a 5 year contract on at least what we had offered
.
Probably cos you’d corner the market. Can’t believe they still haven’t developed the **** rating.
Makes sense, gotta remember that Clarke and Sess will be coming into the attacking reckoning. That’s two extra players in the attacking remit that knocks Lamela down the chain. Replacing him squad wise with a better player who is more flexible, younger and better physically would only be a great move.
Although the post was in relation to Lo Celso effectively replacing Lamela rather than Clarke, I’ll explain my thoughts.Do people really expect so much from Clarke straight away? He has 5 starts for Leeds to his name. He is a player for the future, he’s hardly going to come in and knock seasoned pros out of the squad. I’m no fan of Lamela but to suggest Clarke will take his spot would leave a lot to be desired. This is not the overhaul Poch was talking about.

Lamela played just under 1000 league minutes last season (971). With all due respect if we’re not loaning Clarke out, are we just going to play him in the carabao and that’s it? I don’t think so. I’m not expecting him to come in and be the second coming but if we’re purchasing someone and not loaning him out, he can contribute.
If we were talking about 2000+ minutes then fair enough but let’s not pretend like Lamela is a key player. 4 league goals and 2 assists is not a whole lot of productivity. Add to that his wages, age and injury record, it leans towards him going.
Definitely one for the future.
If we can get Ndombele, Clarke and Sessegnon done before preseason, that would be incredible work by Levy and his team.
Was going to agree but my agreement needs to be qualified with a sadly, sadly I tend to agree with you, I like Lamela but at our level now.....Although the post was in relation to Lo Celso effectively replacing Lamela rather than Clarke, I’ll explain my thoughts.

TinglingHe wont be the only one....
That is very promising that the club seem to be going back to older ways in buying young mainly English talent, we need to anyway due to the homegrown rules. But a good combination of young English talents coming in and more established high level players would be perfect. He wont be the only one....
I’m the same, I was overjoyed when we signed him but like you, sadly I think his time is up.Was going to agree but my agreement needs to be qualified with a sadly, sadly I tend to agree with you, I like Lamela but at our level now.....
Probably not just English players recent links to saliba, Slov Olsen, zaniola suggest poch is looking at building squad that is around for many years. That is very promising that the club seem to be going back to older ways in buying young mainly English talent, we need to anyway due to the homegrown rules.
