A team needs to evolve. ManCity and Liverpool have both strengthened this summer and we have weaknesses that need addressing. Not wholesale, but a couple. We need a player who can score more goals than Defoe and offer more when not scoring.

We need a dynamic CM with attacking bias to compliment the likes of Palacios and Sandro.

I have concerns about every defensive position as well but they can probably be put on hold for 6 moths/year as if we use 451 or 442 with Palacios and Sandro the defence will receive good protection and isn't terrible anyway.

Ekotto is too fucking casual defensively and doesn't get forward much either. He's very accomplished around the half-way line though.

Dawson is Slow of brain and foot.

Corluka is technically good and intelligent but lacks urgency.

Bassong & Kaboul I like and have potential but need a real leader next to them.

Woodgate is fucked.

King can only play once a fortnight.

We need a Klinsmann or a Berbatov at his best. Just imagine how well those two would link up with Modric.

What a load of drivel. Our defensive record was pretty decent last season!

re King - he can play more than once a fortnight so lets not dramatise the situation. and your comments about Dawson? almost embaressing.

Really have they?

Liverpool have swapped Benayoun for Cole, and are going to lose arguably the heart beat of their team - Mascherano. That doesn't really look like strengthening to me. They may be better than last year under Hodgson's steady hand, but I would still take our squad over theirs easily.

Citeh seem building a completely new team every season, I did to agree with Didi Hamman, that its going to set them back for at least half a season until the various components start to gel, get used to each other, and this league.

Hamman's take on it: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...hamann-slams-manchester-citys-transfer-policy

As for you Dawson bashing again, its really quite sad. I predict the guy is going to step up another leavel this year and thrive in the CL.

Won't buy Adebayor
Will buy somebody

I still think the longer it goes on the better deal we'll get.

I'm not sure I'd be happy with no signings. It's true that we should get better simply because we have a consistent squad who are gaining more and more experience. However, I'd say that we have been in the 4th-7th block for a while now (mostly Us, Man City, Villa, Everton), and we just managed to take 4th this time around. Without the improvement that the CL can bring, I think we'll have to fight hard for 4th again. If we did manage to bring in 1 or 2 players that are better than what we have, then we could make 4th our own.

We finished 8th and 11th the 2 seasons prior. We have been top 7 material for all of 3 months. :-?

its not looking likely we will do anything about it this window

I really hope you will be the first to post a big humble pie thread if we do get the 1 or 2 players who would unquestionably improve us by September 1st, because every single time I log in here you're whinging that we're having (and set to continue to have, from the tone of your posts) a shit transfer window. Fine... but I hope you'll be man enough to say you were wrong if Harry and Levy do pull those elusive improvements out of the bag.

What, the same defenders that conceded approx 27 at home over the course of the last 2 seasons.

You may be able to pick holes in those players individually, but as a defensive unit, they work.

I agree. Although we have been terrible defensively during pre-season, I hope Harry never plays Corluka at centre back in a competitive match (rather have Huddlestone or Sandro ahead of him if we're desperate). Also, the defence has been chopped and changed a lot so far. But as a defensive unit we were excellent last season. A new centre back would be ideal, but isn't crucial at this point.

I'm not sure some of those comments are even picking holes, technically they're more same old prejudices, banging the Dawson drum. Bassong has done well next to Daws, so I guess that makes Dawson a leader then?

Those stats speak volumes though, and as a counter to someone who clings so tightly to his numeric justifications, say pretty much all that needs to be said.

Why don't you read what I say. It's not necessarily a priority - which is what I said - but eventually, unless you believe the likes of Dawson, Ekotto, Corluka are the best we can do, that King and Woodgate will miraculously be cured or you have no aspiration to be a top 3 side then they will need replacing.

A point well made, and maybe I'm seeing us far above our station, but I still consider us to be in that block over recent history. Would the last 5 seasons not put us there on average?

SIGN SOMEONE!!

I'm sorry.

It's my problem. I'll just go and lie down for a few minutes ...

I'm gonna shock the whole Spurs Community World right now when I say this. "I hope we don't sign anyone in this window!"

I don't hope we don't sign anyone. As I said in the thread about whther we would be okay without signing anyone, I don't actively want us to not sign anyone; I would be reasonably happy with the squad we have, going into the new season. I would be even happier if we signed a coupole of seriously good players.

While not agreeing with some of the players on his list, I do agree with Brett that it would be better to sign no-one than to just sign players for the sake of it.

A point well made, and maybe I'm seeing us far above our station, but I still consider us to be in that block over recent history. Would the last 5 seasons not put us there on average?

Our mean position is 6.6th (so lets say 6th or 7th) with a standard deviation of 2.9 (quite high in this instance).

Our mode position is 5th.

Our median position is also 5th.

Basically, though inconsistent, the past 5 years shows us to be a 5th - 7th team who have the occasional disaster and the occasional purple patch.

I think that sounds fairly accurate.
