If worst comes to worse I wouldn't be too gutted about swapping Keane for Carew, offers something different and could be done in a day.

I have in previosus posts explained why I think as I do, I have explained that I feel that finishing top 4 is/was an oppertuntiy to kick on, that not to is standing still and that other teams around us ...In my opinion not fact, have demonstrated players are available and have in my opinion becpme better all round teams........what else do you want me to say...every time I have expressed said opinion, it has been done in a non personalised way and without slagging ITK as some appear to do.

I like others want the best for spurs and am just expressing how i feel that could and should have been done....Its an opinion and I'm being a lot less forceful in expressing that than you are Stoof

I'm encouraging you to argue back, there's no personal slant here. I just don't see anything but wishywashy stuff mate. You haven't allowed for clubs not wanting to sell. Yes players maybe there, but that doesn't mean that they're available for transfer.

Don't get all defensive on me, I want to understand how you're thinking. Because personally, I think we've got a bloody good squad that of the names we've been persistently linked with only Fabiano, Suarez and Huntelaar would improve. And if we can't get them because their clubs won't sell them to us, well there's not much we can do about that is there?

We've signed a massively highly rated central midfielder and a Premiership experienced winner in William Gallas.

And I just think people need to take a step back and see that we've retained our manager, Bale and Modric and improved our strength in depth.

Plus, we'd get a couple of those flicky goals a season.

Seriously though, he's shit. 2 flicky goals wouldn't make up for the 100's of missed open goals he makes a season.

Sorry, but how do you sell players with no buyers? How do you buy players without the selling club agreeing a fee with you? Why do people have this idea that transferring a fairly important player from one club to another is a formality!

You say "(if any)" but if noises are correct, there aren't any others. So we pressed hard for Fabiano. "Let themselves be strung along" something that you have zero knowledge of. That's just a massive assumption.

As for what may happen tomorrow, we'll soon see.

Sorry mate, but isn't 99.9% of what's stated on this board "just a massive assumption"? So everything you say is grounded 100% in fact?

And when you state "but if noises are correct, there aren't any others", well aren't there just as many, if not more, noises on this message board that say the very opposite?

But again, you don't get what I'm saying. I do understand that transfers are not a formality - don't make the assumption that I don't. All I've said is that our negotiation strategy seems to have brought us down to the wire at the end of the transfer window with our first targets missed and the prospect of paying over the odds for second or third choice players. That's my "assumption" and until you can prove differently I'm happy to live with it.

And no, impspur, it's not "spot on" at all. Not even close.

Sad, very sad.

No, I just avoid making assumptions.

Is it our negotiation strategy though? That's the bit I don't like, the anti-board bit.

I guess what i'm saying is that every player has a price and I am definately not suggesting going down the Leeds route, but paying for example an extra £3m on Fab (as he has been allegegadly linked) would enhance our chances of qualifying for next seasons CL and whilst it is paying over the odds the return for qualification outways the potential loss if we dont qualify. I am not suggesting this approach for every player and would have been mortified at apying £25m for Milner/Barry but we need a Torres, Van perise, drogba, Tevez Rooney to continue to move forward and they dont come along very often and were not often placed to stand a chance of getting them.I feel as though this season was for the first time our chance to sign an established world class striker (we may still of course) that can provide that edge that I feel we need to step up another level and will also help the devleopement of the Lennons, Bales, Huddlestones. Imagien the benifit Defoe would get playing alongside Brazils No 1? The abilty to sign a 'blue chip' player is the one thing i feel we need to change and until we do we will not make the tranistion to be a consistant top 4 team.

If that all makes sense?

The trouble is though Stoof, so many posters take this as a "given", ignore the fact and just press on with negative rants about why X and Y have not been signed, with no conception at all as to what is actually happening behind closed doors. Not so long ago the worry would have been, not who we were going to sign, but how we could hang on to a precocious talent like Bale or a magician like Modric when the "big boys" come knocking. It was ever thus I suppose - some people are never satisfied.
