Hertyid:

Seems pretty clear Utd won’t budge and now we’ve given Lamela a new contract I’d be very surprised if we signed another AM WF.

You slowly get the impression we have no clue how to handle the market nowadays. Still give it the few weeks to be proven wrong but I am at a point where I expect nearly nothing.

Do we just want something new? Lamela, moura, son, eriksen were just as highly rated as martial (at the same age) was when he joined utd.

From Poch's point of view, I'd guess we just want someone versatile who can both cover Kane and yet play alongside him.

I personally think we already have that, but our continued pursuit of players in that mould suggest Poch/the Club disagree.

I still feel like we need to give Moura a proper go before we start spending large amounts on another WF. I wouldn’t be against bringing in a qulity WF but I do find our seeming desperation to be just slightly perplexing.

I definitely think Llorente would go if Zaha came in, making Kane, Son and Zaha our striker options, with Lamela as an emergency false 9.

Yep. I actually think the committee preferred Martial though, so can see why we hung on there.

I have a sneaky feeling the other possibility is if Ousmane Dembele is allowed to leave, but that seems far from certain and very risky.

Hopefully a decision is made and they go hard for Zaha asap.
The same Ousmane Dembele who cost Barca over £100m last year ? Would be insane but does anyone see Levy putting in a realistic bid ?

Potential for one of the truly great meltdowns if Lamela signing a new deal is presented as "being like a new signing" and we sign no attackers. I look forward to it.

Poch has been quoted today mentioning names including Lamela's as ''like signing five new players''

Agree, especially if son is off for a month with the asian games.

Just think if we are going to spend big money i want an alonso/gazza/modric.

An important point is that Son probably only has a few seasons left with military service looming and he will probably miss a good part of the start of the season. I don't think its a priority but still...

Just signed a 5 year contract though, which is weird.

Regardless of whether some may just want something new, what we'd get from Martial would be much different to what we would get from Lamela or Moura for instance. Plus a new AM/WF doesn't neccesarily mean just an option in that position but also a backup to Kane. I guess potentially in our scenario, saying we don't need another AM/WF is almost the same as saying we don't need a backup (other than Son) to Kane.

Interesting how guys like Herc have heard stuff on Zaha but Hertyid has seemingly heard nothing at all. Makes we wonder if we have different staff working on different transfers.

Maybe Zaha has been pretty straight forward discussions between Parrish, Levy and Zaha's people and the info has been kept at the top table.

I don't think they'd let him go at all, but there have been enough rumours about him all summer to suggest his people have been testing the water.

We seem to fall into the trap of getting cosy with the player and eventually realising the player isn't as attainable as the agent was led to believe. See Martial.

Which is why if we do really have a set price on Zaha I think we should go for it.

There was a lot of discussion about whether CB was the best use of our record transfer fee last summer too (Sanchez). Which also seems wrong in hindsight.
