I'd be very wary with those suggesting vlaar. Yes he had an outstanding World Cup but was part of a very average/poor villa team last year. He just looks shiny and new because of his World Cup performances. I would rather we looked elsewhere tbh.

Have to disagree mate, I think he's easily the best CB outside the top 8 and we are willing to put in bids for Davies, Bony etc etc I don't see why we couldn't go for an experienced international defender (it's exactly what we need). I do think there's better international defenders out there, but if we are talking around £50m spend for our whole window (I doubt we could get any more than that from sales without seriously weakening the squad) he would be a good fit.

8-10 on Davies
16-20 on Schneiderlin
12-14 on Kono/JRod
6-8 on Vlaar

Buys us a couple of years to find our own Varane, Nastasic etc as well.

I think that's a good window for the price.

Vlaar looked good in back 3, in a 2 in a high line where the CBs have a lot of the ball his weaknesses would be glaringly exposed IMO

assou ekotto would be a decent backup oh yeah lets sign 2 left backs when jan and assou ekotto can both cover left back..

I can't see the club supporting BAE after a number of events. The quenelle stuff was bad enough, the attitude and digs at AVB, his shambolic head butting a team mate in the world cup, rumours of match fixing in the Cameroon team, his recent bad knee injury that he never looked right after and his general being a bit pants in the championship. Think Davies will be a more solid 1st choice (if the ITK is to be believed) and if I were Rose I wouldn't knuckle down to prove a point the ITK suggests he's too big for this. Shame as decent LB cover. Naughton can also play there. Pls keep Verts away from LB.

True.

I think I saw signs of Fryers being a bit empowered on Saturday.
Last season, I always felt he looked like the new kid, just happy to be there but slightly in awe of his surroundings. On Saturday, he looked more confident, as if he belonged in the squad & it was good to see.

I've high hopes that Poch can extract a good player from a few of the younger fringe players.
A few of them aren't as young as we think (as we've just seen!) and it's very much now or never for them.
It's a tricky one because if you don't give him a chance now and rose demands a move then you have to buy someone, hence hampering his chance at spurs. Maybe sell rose, loan out zeki and keep Beni for back up for his last year of his contract?? Can't see anyone paying a lot for bae.

Maybe that's the difference you see with a good player playing in a good side and a shite one?

For centre back choices I can only think of Veltman, Schar and Dier as our attainable media linked options at centre back, none of whom fill in at left back, which I think was one of the criteria? Evidently Rojo can, but can't remember any others who can effectively who we've been linked to.

Most probably I'm in the minority, but I hope we do away with this high line malarkey, recipe for disaster again imo.

We have Fryers and Vertonghen dude, I really dont think we need, or are looking for, extra cover

There's a vine out there of Vlaar out running Eden Hazard. He's deceptively quick but I have not seen any ITK linking us to him?

A high line is a must if you are going to use aggressive and high pressing like Pochettino likes to do, you need to squeeze the midfield and reduce the space. It's just about doing it right and having the right players for it.

Fryers is more than capable to cover/push Davies. He's better than Rose now imo.
Rose has some ability but he makes terrible decisions and is rash.

Sandro, Dawson, Rose, Sigurdsson, Paulinho and Dembele could go and I wouldn't be that bothered. We've got way too many midfielders and I'd like to see the youngsters (Ceballos, Carroll and Bentaleb, Falque etc) given a proper chance.

I thought we had a lucky escape not signing Vlaar back in the days when we were being linked with Andy Van Der Meyde. I'm not sure I see the point in signing him now either as he's not really an improvement on Jan/Kaboul and doesn't have the potential of someone like Dier or whoever else we're linked with. I'm sure he could do a job and provide decent cover but why not try to find someone better?

I read somewhere that Zeki Fryers was the 2nd quickest player in the premier league last season, add that to his defensive awareness as he can play at centre back then I would have him over rose anyway so selling rose for £6m when we already have a ready made and better replacement on theour books is great business.
Fryers to me looks like an old fashioned steady player, not gonna set the world alight or take chances but doesn't make mistakes either

Nobody will buy BAE as he's an injury risk. It was reported last year that he failed two medicals on proposed transfers to 2 different teams.
