I don't think PSG want Stambouli just because he's homegrown. That would be even more counter-productive than keeping a player that clearly doesn't want to be at PSG for the same reason. Stambouli has taken a lot of stick, but the fact is we didn't see enough of him/give him enough time to adjust in order to make a proper judgement about his abilities. If PSG want Stambouli and we want Rabiot, there's a deal to be done.

There's no way they're selling Rabiot. If we try to use Stambouli as a makeweight in a deal they'll just drop it completely.

If Kaboul does go, and assuming Stambouli does eventually leave, that presumably only leaves us with Soldado, Ade and Lennon that we really need to get rid of.

Actually looking promising on the sales front for the first time in quite a few windows.

Amazing what a bit of flexibility in asking price can achieve.

The only other reason is because they need to replace Cabaye. If they want him so badly for his ability, then they could've signed him with ease last summer. There's no deal to be done with Rabiot, because no one in there right mind would sell an extremely promising youngster to get Stambouli. People said the same with Townsend and MS, but in the end Southampton knew keeping MS was more important than signing Townsend.

I'm not sure he's 'hated' TBH, although, if he is, it's probably down to the whole Kane stuff.
That's not my point. I believe that Rabiot doesn't want to stay at PSG so Stambouli is just an extra incentive that makes the deal more palatable as far as PSG is concerned.

This would be a really good one to get off our books.

Once Kaboul has gone, that only leaves Adebayor of the supposed 'troublemakers'. Hopefully it will convince Ade to move on as well...though that could be hugely optimisic.

If we can't move him on then we can simply do a BAE and freeze him out, has more or less the same effect, although we don't get any more from him. Personally i'd be releasing him on a free come 2nd September if someone has signed him from us though.

But Rabiot's wishes are irrelevant if his club don't want to sell...

Clinging on to the hope that with Kaboul being a relatively low cost and short term option for Sunderland they won't go too deep on the medical!
Well they signed Wes Brown so they obviously don't go too deep on the medicals up there.

If ITK is correct and we end up losing Azza and Andros, that would leave us with Eriksen, Chadli, Lamela as our only options for the 3 attacking midfield slots (with maybe Dembele at a push) ... i gues theres Pritch as well, but we dont know yet whether he'll be loaned etc this year

we definitely need reinforcements if the two speedies go

Don't think that's the point though.

We're looking for that defensive minded midfielder who can still play a bit. McCarthy ticks the boxes and we clearly view him as a good fit. If he comes in and we improve as a team who gives a fuck if some people saw it as uninspiring? Its so short sighted.

But we'd be bringing him in at a considerable cost in place of Stambouli. Personally i don't think McCarthy is much better than Stambouli, maybe a little, but he's not at a level where it would make such a big impact, expeically relative to his fee.

Seems like JJ's latest info confirms that those running our transfers feel the same way about McCarthy's price tag.

Frankly we should be able to sign a pretty serious DM for cirica. £20m - remember this would be our 3rd highest transfer fee of all time (as far as i remember).

He's better than Stambouli, Jesus. Anyway what's Stambouli got to do with it? He wasn't played, Poch clearly didn't rate him - so he's not replacing a guy who never played, he's being bought to be played regularly I'd assume.

He's more than good enough to come in and perform that disciplined role in midfield for us, and I'm betting we'd improve as a team greatly for it.

And it was Jasper who intimated that about his price tag, but JJ said that was 'wayward' - in other words, not entirely accurate.

Drexl you really are something else. I rate one of your posts spam and then you actually go back and find one of mine to do the same to? Tit for tat? I really don't mind the neg or even neutral ratings - not a problem, but to go back and find one and do that is so childish. How old are you FFS? :ROFLMAO:

Anyway in a parallel universe, I have mixed feelings over Townsend. Can't help thinking he could suddenly turn into a decent player given a proper run in a side. A double figures a season sort of player. We would need a decent amount of money to let that gamble go. The other thing is that he has pace - only Walker can provide that at the moment. If we do buy a wide forward then I really hope he does have some pace also.

I rarely do but i found this one unfair because it was not a general post it was sent to another poster so the equivalent of a private conversation, only person it would have been fair getting a rating like that from would be the guy it was aimed at ;)

Poch confirmed he'd be in the squad this year, he might be shocking in pre season somehow and end up on loan, but it's very unlikely. We also have Yedlin.. (clutching). And a few youngsters like Onomah.. so probably need a winger and a striker.

Rabiot doesn't want to stay, but PSG won't sell.

I don't think Dembele is at a push. His best games for us last season were playing more of a No.10 role. Much rather see him in rotation there with Eriksen than with the deeper CMs. Although I do agree we would be a little light out wide!
