I'm will reserve judgement on whoever we buy until he has had ample opportunity to prove himself, irrespective of his reputation, good or bad.

But by Fuck, wouldn't Fabiano send out a chilling message to the rest of the Premier League, that we mean business, especially bearing in mind the way we have played football over the past 2 years!

couldnt agree more....we would be scary with him up top...frightening!!

fabiano for 12mill is a bargain tbh, his age doesnt come into the equation for that price.

I agree we shouldn't be too hung up on his age. Brazilians (somewhat rightfully) have a bad reputation when it comes to lasting beyond their 20's. However Fabiano isn't likely to suffer from this, he has stayed fit most of his career and isn't a party boy like a lot of the others. He's actually very grounded considering his reputation and achievements (in comparison to other Brazilian players).

I think, assuming he can stay injury free, that he has a good 3 seasons left in him. Which for circa £12-14m would be a good deal for us.

And it would certainly send a message to our other strikers that they have serious competition now. It worked wonders for Lennon when we brought in Bentley, imagine if it would spark the same result with the strikers we would choose to keep..

Oh and with Fabiano, Gomes and Sandro in the team, we'd gain a much bigger following in Brazil, which can only be good financially for the club.

Bearing in mind that £10 million buys you Chris Smalling or 16 Million buys kolorov

I'd say so

Not really, I doubt many Premier League shirts are sold in Brazil when you consider that their league if not particularly strong, has a big tradition across the country with huge support for the biggest clubs, and taking into account the economic situation it's not a big market for Prem clubs.

If it was Chelsea, Utd and the like would be over there playing pre-season every year instead of going to the US and Asia. Continents which don't have any big clubs and more importantly have lot's of expendable income.

It would, and with the established connection in Brazil with Internacional, and our brazilian contigent we would be far more attractive for up and coming talent. I really do hope for Fabiano, and I do think he would do well here. As said earlier, he has stayed professional for a long time, unlike a lot of other brazilians

I just like how both of you posted at the same time, replying to the same post, both had valid points and good insight but completely different views.

Yes, well, I have been to several parts of Brazil, and they sure are passionate when it comes to football. And if we could establish us in the CL, it would give us a lot more attention there. There are sold an astonishing amount of football shirts in Brazil, wether they are genuine or fake, I do not know, but the potential market is huge. But we need some success, and the potential signing of Fabiano would also help a lot

spursandbarca dropped into the harrys shopping list thread with us being interested in a brazilian no.10 earlier today

Fabiano's record in mind, berba and keane got what 15 league goals each in their heyday - I think a player like him or kjh would have too much craft in his movement and technique for many premiership defenders and grabbing 15+ certainly wouldn't be out of the equation. And with his great international record, we're talking about Brazil here i.e. proper international football, not the crap we get here - its certainly not devalued to be playing for Brazil, usually at the squeaky bum end of tournaments, even if our national game suggests to us that internationals aint club football. So I wouldn't like to discount that as a barometer of class.

If we signed fabiano and bellamy/remy + gallas on a free (I know, I know)

Then we'd have a rather lovely looking squad.

It would give us more exposure in Brazil, and that would be great for enticing the next generation of stars to play for us, but if there is such a big market there how come teams like AC Milan aren't already exploiting it?

I do not know how much Milan generates in shirt sales there, but there are a lot of people with Milan shirts. And as I said, I do not know if they are genuine or fake. And the economy for Brazil as a country is blooming, although not everybody benefits from it. Yet. So the market has potential
