Drogba. And we can't afford the well known slow start Drogba had from Fabiano. As by his 3rd year he will be 32

But Drogba's worst two seasons came after he had a good one, so wasn't really down to the start he had. The other two were Mario 'made for the Premiership' Gomez and Fernando 'carries a team all by himself' Torres.

I'm not saying that Fabiano would be better or worse than any other player but it is also meaningless to just quote his goalscoring records and say he isn't worth it. Some of the players I have heard like Toivonen, Guerrero or Derdiyok have far inferior goalscoring records but they are praised to high heaven. Fabiano has a 1 in 2 record and 28 in 43 for Brasil.

He might start slowly but I think it is highly unlikely as an out and out finisher in a side with as much creativity as we possess. He'd score goals for us no doubt but what he would do more than anything is cast fear and doubt into opposition teams. Even if his bark is worse than his bite the fact that he is Brasil's premiere striker would mean that his signing would elevate us to another level in the minds of other teams. Similar to the way that teams will lie down against Man City because they are scared of the money that they have spent, regardless of the fact that the players they have brought in are really not that good.

It'll also give our own squad a boost which the likes of a Toivonen or Guerrero wouldn't. A big name signing can certainly add up to more than player himself will ever contribute. Having a figurehead and a proven, internationally renowned striker for some of our younger players to look up to and look forward to playing with could take our side to the next level.

A positive psychological boost for our side, a negative psychological impact to many opposition with some goals thrown in for good measure. I'd buy into that whether it is Fabiano, Forlan or whoever else of that stature that we might be able to get.

Lennon, Bentley, Gio and Remy's preferred position is all wide right attack (wingers/inside forwards). On the left only Krancjar (Bale is a LM maybe, LB in my book, but never an inside forward)

Remy who hasn't even signed for us, who we don't even know if we have bid for?

And Gio has played wide left for us just as much as he has played wide right.

And just dismiss the fact that modric played wide left for us for half of last season.

And that Bale played LM for us very effectively last season and normally, due to his driving runs, ends up in an inside forward position when he does.

And when does Bentley ever play inside forward?

Pav to Marsaille, Fab to Spurs? Should I start getting excited yet or is this another let down?

Why didn't we get Ruud Van Mustard or Adriano when we had the chance? Not to say they'd have done any better (specially as Pav was banging them in) but then will Fab, who knows? All I know is I am BORED.

Well, Adriano looked pretty damn chunky in Roma's new kit presentation. Not sure if he's in the best of shapes....

Yeah, don't let the facts get in the way of an acerbic put down whatever you do. Why wait for something to be incorrect before correcting it eh ?

What a genius; even in the post you attach he doesn't say that.

stating that he averages 15 games a season pretty much does mean he said that.

This.

FFS, the guy was one of the best srtikers at the World Cup and we're talking about him coming to Tottenham. We haven't had that feeling since Klinsmann. It'd give the club a massive, massive lift.

am I the only one who is not that excited about fabiano?

Possibly, like to explain why??

So we need to sign him by wednesday then as Seville are in the CL playoffs as well? He will be cup-tied, no? (Sorry if this has been clarified before)

I would imagine Sevilla will leave him out Wednesday whatever happens, they really can't afford to loose him on a free next summer.

Why does everyone want mass changes?!

We don't just a couple of new strikers, did u see the game on Saturday?

Not in our back 9 (except a replacement for Woodgate).

Wouldn't that be Dawson?

Fabiano? really?

This guy

Porto 2004-5 22 played 3 scored
Porto 2005-6 23 played 5 scored
Porto 2006-7 26 played 10 scored
Seville 2007-8 30 played 24 scored
Seville 2008-9 26 played 8 scored
Seville 2009-10 22 played 15 scored

That's one great season and one good season.

For 15 million and 100K salary......PASS

Umm, who the fuck is this player???

How about sort your stats (and teams) out and try this on for size:

2001 Sao Paulo - 9 goals in 22 games
2002 Sao Paulo - 19 goals in 21 games
2003 Sao Paulo - 29 goals in 34 games
2004 Sao Paulo - 5 goals in 8 games
2004-05 Porto - 3 goals in 22 games
2005-06 Sevilla - 7 goals in 37 games
2006-07 Sevilla - 15 goals in 38 games
2007-08 Sevilla - 34 goals in 44 games
2008-09 Sevilla - 17 goals in 37 games
2009-10 Sevilla - 21 goals in 34 games

Forgetting his time in Brazil that looks to me like 2 bad seasons, 1 ok season, 1 amazing season and 2 good seasons, with his bad season coinciding with arriving in Europe and then finding his feet at Sevilla.

Oh and less we forget:

Brazil - 28 goals in 43 games

Toivonen's record is actually very good considering the position he has often played in the PSV team.

A big name signing can certainly add up to more than player himself will ever contribute. Having a figurehead and a proven, internationally renowned striker for some of our younger players to look up to and look forward to playing with could take our side to the next level.

If we were talking about someone like Samuel Eto'o or David Villa then I'd agree, but we're not. It's about balance for me.

Well I hope you guys are right about Fabiano. I really do.

I'd hope we all hope this.

The point is more: can you name a striker with the experience and pedigree he has that we have any chance of signing and who will cost less than our record signing fee?

The only other player i can think of is Huntelaar, and i'd say Fabiano is the better of those two (although maybe i'm biased).

This sums it up for me.

And yes, Fabiano is streets ahead of Huntelaar.

Whatever, If we get either of those players we should be very, very thankful.

So will I. As the window has gone on my optimisim on buying a big player has completely diminished, so if we were to sign Fabiano I'd be very happy.

If this is true I hope the OS make it a double announcement, this alone will make up for years of medicore shite and humilation at the hands of The Scum.

I'm will reserve judgement on whoever we buy until he has had ample opportunity to prove himself, irrespective of his reputation, good or bad.

But by Fuck, wouldn't Fabiano send out a chilling message to the rest of the Premier League, that we mean business, especially bearing in mind the way we have played football over the past 2 years!
