Levy can’t afford to make mistakes in this window- haggling over few millions on players could be difference between finishing 12th and 4th.

Same with Sanchez not wanting to go to Russia. Levy agreed a pretty low price imo.
I filed this one in one of the most stupid bits of transfer business I can ever recall. First Levy dealing with a Russian club and secondly thinking anyone in their right mind would transfer to Russia. If true, this was morally bankrupt and pathetically stupid.

Let's hope we've read the rulebook this time!
Was that story every confirmed? I lost interested in the post-mitten of that window? If it was true, was there no comeback on, presumably, Caplehorn? Quite a costly fuck up.

Interesting outlook on the ITK info regarding outgoings, and a lot of agreement from members,

Is it really the case though? Every year the top players from relegated teams get snapped up. Our league positions have been mostly decent apart from last year given recent standards. Hardly something to label players as stagnant and not worthy of signing.

Edit: can't argue with the "big contracts" part though.
I´m sorry if wasn´t clear, but neither I nor the article make the argument that this is the sole reason for why we as a club struggle to sell players. But it can be one of several contributing factors. As most of the points have been talked about and discussed extensively across SC, I found this to be a (to me at least) a new and interesting viewpoint worth sharing. Not at least after Rob´s comment in this thread the other day: "Lots of moaning and venting is not a discussion. If anyone has any intelligent points to make about it go ahead but no one gets anything from just complaining." I don´t know if it´s "intelligent", but at least it is something different and new compared to the "Levy is a tight git"-arguments that flood these pages. (*)

That you dismiss the argument is 100% fine - obviously! And I for one appreciate that you question the argument. And I see your point about players getting snapped up from relegated teams every year. But aren´t we exactly a team that not only has stagnated but even regressed? And remember; our one, truly stand out player has been picked up. I do think that fees and salaries are important factors. I think that the "Levy-factor" plays a part. But I also believe that our current reputation/standing - at the back of 4+ plus years of bad press re our coaches and the environment inside the club - also could be a contributing factor. I don´t believe in black and white thinking and that there is only one single cause to our problems selling players. As with most aspects of life and business, there are most likely a plethora of contributing factors that are in play.

(*) He can come across as such imo - at least he must be labelled "conservative" and "careful".

This won't be a popular opinion but I think the success of these last 2 weeks would be better judged on who we permanently shift out of the club. The loan system has only led to us kicking the can down the road and apart from GLC has made all our players harder to sell. If we could get the 4 of the 6 Prof highlights out and make way for future windows I'd be happy.
I get where you’re coming from as no rebuild happens overnight BUT if you sell a player like Kane it’s just not good enough not to bring in at least one quality addition to your front line. Kane will be a huge loss even if we bought Vlahovic or Lautaro or Chiesa or any of the more established players we’ve been linked to. Reality is we are one or two injuries away from looking rather weak in certain areas.

Say we sell Sanchez, one of the few players that has links, and Romero gets injured for a month. Do you trust Dier or Davies to perform in this system? I certainly don’t.

Considering we have known we needed two new CB’s for probably 2 or 3 years now and we have (apparently) known Kane was off for months not having these moves lined up months ago is nothing other then complete and utter failure imo.

We should not be desperately trying to shove players out the door two weeks before the window closes in the hope we can bring in a “replacement” for the best striker in the world.

(obviously no one can directly replace Kane but the general point stands)

Surely they should be able to do both?

Lol.

Why not go even further. Haggling over 500k could be the difference between 1st and 20th!

Thanks for the update Herc. Think it's going to be a busy end to the window. I already think we have a good squad (for a start of a new journey) so I'm pretty chilled.

thanks @Hercules , @Trix . You get the distinct impression any outs will trigger a domino effect, not just for us but other clubs too. Will be a fun few days.
