England bat.

Re Rashid, I hope he plays a blinder. I can't understand Vaughan weighing in. As a former England captain, he should know that what he's done has put more pressure on Rashid and reduced England's chances. If he had something he needed to say, either say it privately to the selectors, or wait until the cricket's finished.

1-0 already. So far so good.

I get your point re Vaughan and agree about the timing, pressure etc, but he wasn't shy on twitter to defend himself by saying he "gets paid to give his opinions..."

Having seen that ball from Ashwin, I'm quite looking forward to seeing Rashid in the flesh tomorrow, as long as I'm not too ballbagged by lunchtime that is!

Fine advert for proper cricket.
Dreading the advent of 100 balls up
or whatever it's called.

Our English batsmen are a serious issue. :-

1) They can't bat
2) They can't catch

If I was an England bowler I'd hurl huge chunks..

The way England bowl to a tail is just as big an issue. Stokes is absolutely exhausted and yet he’s still bowling. It makes no sense to me what Root is doing

Fully agree there. Root has been such a let down for me as captain. He has minimal tactical nouse as the best of times..he just lets things wander. If we lose this series I expect him to be replaced, but goodness knows who's going to replace him. My bet would be Morgan..

And Cook's out...just pitiful

Agreed. Morgan for Malan and have him as captain.
I’ve banged the Morgan test recall drum for so long. Test cricket has evolved and has a need for players like Morgan now; his style never really suited test cricket back when he played last.

The fact he’s been overlooked for so long whilst the likes of Vince and Ballance have been given countless chances is just pure incompetence on the selectors part.

They've made Jos Buttler vice captain. If they replaced Root - and they won't yet - he'd be next

I find that decision incredibly baffling. Buttler has only just returned to the test side and, one good game aside, his position shouldn’t be as certain as what it seemingly is.

FWIW I really rate Buttler. I just find some decisions made by the selectors incredibly hard to understand.

I think he's VC more for his cricketing brain than his cemented place. I hope he stays in the team; love watching him, and it feels good seeing him coming in at 7.

Surely the 100 ball thing is the making of sky and whichever stato nobjockies came up with the great idea of suddenly telling us all how many runs a side needs of so many balls

Surrey need 120 off 84 balls!!!!!

Who gives a fuck.

The game has always been about overs and how many runs you need from that number of overs giving you the required run rate

14 overs left requiring 120 runs at just over 8.5 per over

Useless stato ****s with nothing better to do than fuck all our sports up

Morgan should be nowhere near the test side. He would only bat at 6 or lower and frankly we have better options there.

Why should he not be anywhere near the test side? You never actually said?

I don't think his technique would be tight enough to play test cricket and succeed. England need batsmen who have a solid defensive technique and a good temperament who can play out and survive against good bowling spells instead of just hitting out like most of them do now.

Great day out yesterday, not a huge crowd but good natured and loud enough.

Joe Root is fast becoming the worst England captain we have had for years, he's overtaken Flintoff and Pietersen already. Absolutely schoolboy tactics, Kohli played well but didn't even have to really do anything special to marshall the tail.

Having said that, not sure what the option is apart from him, I just know it isn't Eoin Morgan.

When do we reckon England's collapse will start today?

My bet is 11.07

Edit: Made it to 11.14. Impressive stuff.

Root needs to be removed as captain. He’s done absolutely nothing to suggest he’s capable of such a role.

I’ve never seen such soft dismissals in my life. Why on EARTH would you be playing a shot into an area occupied by two fielders? The idiocy is unreal.

And now Bairstow tries to do the exact same thing!!!
