In a slightly less contraversial opinion, Brooks has been outstanding so far. Definatley a player that will be breaking scoring records I think! Also great to see the England tail adding some really useful runs. Wood and Robinson really handy contributions at the end.
It reminds me of the days of Prior/Swan/Bresnan/Broad et al. You could always be confident someone in the lower middle order would score quick and substantial runs and that the last 3 wickets would cobble together another 50-75 between them.

Did anyone see him batting? Reminded me of Viv Richards the way he was chewing his gum

Definitely not lacking in confidence or his own ability!

I'll get 'wtf'd' for saying this but seems tinged with arrogance, I don't doubt his ability, but humility is a big thing.
He’s only 18 and we’ve absolutely no idea about his personality yet

Cut him some slack until we find out he’s a top bloke or a complete prick…

He said he was told to 'finish it tonight' by Stokes. He's only played 4 first class games and has a 122 to his name so he can clearly bat. If I was 18 and been given carte blanche by the skipper, on Test debut, just after taking a five-fer, at 90-1 chasing 160, I'd have given it large as well!

Good luck to him.

Come on guys he's 18, we should cut him some slack. It's highly likely that until we play on a reasonably suitable surface, he'll not put in another appearance for a while, although with this new set-up you never know and at his age he's going to make some mistakes off the field as well as on it. It's to be expected. He could be monster big. He could also be a flash in the pan. Time will tell.

Personally think it was a genius idea from stokes.. lad got 5 wickets and was given the opportunity to play with freedom, give him the opportunity to bat

But can he do it on a second day of a green Adelaide Oval pitch? :cautious:

Absolutely amazing turn around in the last twelve months.
Duckett has been phenomenal up top, Brook for me has nailed down his spot along with Pope, Foakes, Robinson and the cameo from Ahmed in the 3rd.
The only downside would be the form of JR.
11/10 guys!?

I'm not so worried about JR, if no one else was scoring around him, maybe so, but we're no longer a side the relies on him coming in at three after losing an opener or two in the first 10 overs and him needing to hold up the entire innings. He'll come good I'm sure of it. I really like the balance of the side at present, only thing is, where does Broady fit in to it, if at all?

Duckett was picked because his game suits the pitches out there, i'd like to see him given a chance against New Zealand in February. If he does well there he might get picked for the Ashes but who knows. It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't feature much this summer as Bairstow walks straight back into the side.

Well the first day of the Boxing day test is done and dusted.
It really is a great day. Great tribute to Warnie.
Good deck and the Aussies bowled really well to a must be said below par South African batting lineup.
Best way to spend a 39 degree day in Adelaide having a few beers and Test Cricket.

Not jealous at all - apart from the fact that the entire crowd was made of Aussies & Saffers - which quite frankly can’t get any worse!!
