Team vs. Sunderland

Well it all comes down to this, even if somehow Wigan pull off a miracle and beat the Gooners on their own patch, we still need to take care of our business first and foremost. Above all else, we need to make sure our mentality is dead on - no fannying around early doors, conceding a shitty set-piece goal and then sparking into life, no, we need to get out the traps quickly and really make a statement of intent on this game.

We still don't know the circumstances with Sunderland as yet - they could be safe by virtue of Wigan losing, in which case this should make our task that little bit easier but conversely, a Sunderland that is still fighting against the drop might well play into our hands as they will be nervous as fuck and struggle to make headway, much like Birmingham a few years back.

Team wise, assuming no fresh injuries I want us going with a dynamic first 11 which implies that Huddlestone to miss out although I have a few reservations about Lennon at the moment but i'd like to think he can make his mark in this game where Sunderland are missing key players, none more so than Rose at left back so you feel if there was a game for Lennon to step up, it would be this. In fairness to Clint, he did make a telling contribution in the final third against Stoke and ultimately, he does have a knack of scoring important goals - does this negate his deficiencies though and what he brings as a team? Going against my principles here but I'm going to stick with Clint on that basis but with the firm intention in mind that Sigurdsson will come on in the second half where he tends to flourish.

Bale will of course be our main general threat but an invigorated Adebayor is really making his mark now and will of course be our main focal point in attack.

Churlishly or not, I don't expect Sunderland to test us much in open play or certainly nothing that we shouldn't be more than capable in combating but set-pieces frighten the life out me and if there is one thing we must do is not to give needless free kicks away in our half be it through flying in with challenges rashly or merely clambering into players - see Walker and Dawson.

Line up, i'm going for this;

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen BAE
Dembele Parker
Lennon Bale Dempsey
Adebayor

Yeah I'd go with that.

I'm hoping Sunderland will need to come to us and win, we should be able to pick them off.

Yeah I would probably go with that as well. Pretty sure the big boss man will select that team in any case.

A nervous Sunderland needing a win is probably more preferential than a side that's relaxed knowing they are safe - in every possible way, a Wigan win would be welcomed!

I'm down with the OP, although I may stick with the same back 4 as yesterday, and swap Siggy for Dempsey but whatever the lineup we know what he have to do, and have no excuses (even Chris Foy) not to win this game.

Is Foy the ref? Not bothered either way, like you say no excuses. Just curious.

I'd go with the OP as well. Dempsey has earned his place after his goal and assist. I feel a bit sorry for Gylfi as he did well against the chavs and was unlucky not to get the nod for the Stoke game but hopefully he can have another positive impact if he comes off the bench on Sunday.

Not been the biggest Parker lover this year but he keeps his place over Thudd for me, We'll need him, it won't be a walk in the park this one.

No Sessengon, Gardner or Rose so they are significantly weaker. I think we will keep a clean sheet and win 1 or 2-0. COYS

Sigurdsson off the bench is a lot more lethal than Dempsey off the bench.
Start Clint, sub on Siggy after 65 if he's not working.

Yep I would go with that team as well. Sig is proving a very good sub to bring on these days. Always impresses me more in his cameos from the bench.

Dempsey definitely deserves to start as well. Still think he gets too much stick IMO. Not pretty but effective more often than not.

Most definitely a viable alternative and would support that selection as well.

Ade will score within 20 seconds.

Then from 80mins onwards we will face the squeekiest of all bum times. Rectum busting level of clenching as

1) tottenham hold on for dear life as Sunderland go on full attack
2) Arsenal, whiilst drawing against Newcastle, hit every inch of the goal frame individually with numerous penalty claims.
