I'd prefer Defoe to come on as a sub. He'd have a field day against a weary defense, and i think he might start with Ade against arsenal.

---------------Cudicini----------------
Corluka--Livermore--Bassong--Townsend
---------Kranjcar--Carroll------------
Dos Santos------Kane------Falque---
-----------------Pav------------------

Subs: Gomes, Walker, Nicholson, Parrett, Fredericks, Sandro, Defoe

Wouldnt risk Kaboul or Walker, Kranjcar and sandro could probably both do with 45 mins each. Give Defoe some game time if Pav isnt performing.

I am almost starting to think of our EL and Cup sides as a completely different team. Almost like a Tottenham Hotspur light.

That said anyone upfront a part from Pav will do me nicely.

Im just hoping the team gets stronger when we need it too, and it wont be a Tottenham light until we are out.

We have some of the first team (coming back from injury, dont get games) that should make this a stronger team than the last game.

Think we should be able to field a stronger side at the knock out stages, depending on how things fall with league games, etc.

Finishing top 3 or 4 has to be the priority still.

agree, but so is finding a balance to be able to cope in two competitions other wise we are back to league or champions league again next season.

I agree, though in theory these youngsters will have had a year of excellent Europa League experience which will stand them in good stead for the future, so they could step in and do a good job for us week in, week out in the Premier League. That's the theory anyway, surely?

This time next year the likes of Jake Livermore, Tom Carroll, Andros Townsend should be able to do jobs for us, I think.

Plus we need to strengthen the main core of first team players. We wouldn't really have had the "League or Champions League" dilemma if only we could have scored goals! We weren't exactly a million miles away from being capable of competing in both, were we?

Upgrade Pav and Defoe. Strengthen at centre back so we're not so old and frail there. An alternative/upgrade on Lennon. We're there or thereabouts, surely?

We're extremely close to being in a position to challenge for honours, in my mind.

To be honest I would like to see Defoe play so that he can get in the groove for the weekend game like to see him get a hatrick, Also Shamrock Rovers are probably gonna play 11 behind the ball so he will still have to work hard to get his goals

list of possible players that will be involved in the NextGen comp on Tuesday

Goalkeepers : Jordan Archer, Jonathan Miles
Defenders : William Ekong, Ramil Sheriff, Kevin Stewart, James Yeboah, Daniel Day. Jack Barthram
Midfield : Alex Pritchard, Lee Angol, Frederick Champion, Ronnie Hawkins. Jack Munns
Strikers : Harry Kane, Souleymane Coulibaly, Kudos Oyenuga

Other likely younger players :
16 year old Milos Veljkovic, Centre Back or Defensive Midfield (described by FC Basle as their former player)
17 year old Horacio Cristian Olaya, Peruvian under 17 left sided defender on trial who came on as a sub in the Inter Game and started in the Kettering game.
Academy Year 1 – Laste Dombaxe, Central Midfielder
Academy Year 1 - Shaquile Coulthirst, Striker
All other in Academy Year 1 !

So Kane might not be involved in this game.

If Kane isn't involved at all I would expect Defoe to play some part then.

I want the strongest second team we can put out on the park for the match and a real drilling of Shamrock Rovers. Three points is a must - no offering points up to a team that hasn't got a hope beyond the Group stages.

Spurs should be making a statement early doors about winning this tournament, and we do have a chance as we are up there as one of the strong favourites - if we stop faffing around with an overload of youth in the line-up.

This is particularly ironic as our marketting people are making noises about rebranding Spurs around the world to draw additional revenue streams.

Without Champions League, without being one of the Sky Four, without having won the Top tier Title for fifty years, Spurs should be gunning for every fucking trophy we enter for, not fucking around with 0-0 draws against Hearts-type line-ups.

What are you basing this opinion on? We didn't sit back and defend against Kazan! Almost every player in a Rovers shirt will be a free agent in about 3 months time. They will go out and give it a go.

I hate the thought of seeing Pav and Giovani in a Spurs shirt again. Everytime I see them I want to cry. Awful.
Shouldnt take this game too lightly, but fully expect a win from a team made up of squad players, players lacking game time and youth.

Gomes

Corluka Kaboul Bassong Townsend

Livermore Sandro

Gio Carroll Falque

Kane

This is what I'd be tempted to go with. Should have enough in the tank to sneak a home win, hopefully.

When i look at our 'second string' performances the thing that sticks out is that each game has ended 0-0 (Stoke , Hearts (home) and the Greeks) and in those three games we managed just eight shots on goal!

I think when selecting the side this lack of creation/goalscoring needs to be addressed - its all very well praising the youngsters for nice tippy tappy around the half way line but we need to ensure we are much more of a threat

For me has to be a 442 or 433 - with at least one experienced player up front - i guess that means Pav and a maximum of two more defensive minded midfielders

When it comes to out inability to score in these ties I think Pav has demonstrated that he is more a part of the problem and part of the solution. If Kane cannot play as a lone frontman I would sooner see him played off of Oyenuga or Lancaster, where he has at least built up some chemistry.

From the NextGen PSV versus Spurs thread :

'This squad selection against PSV allows the following players to be available from the ‘Next Gen Squad’ for the UEFA cup clash against Shamrock Rovers (all of whom have played before in the UEFA cup matches) :

John Bostock, Dean Parrett, Thomas Carroll, Ryan Fredericks, and potentially Jake Nicholson and Harry Kane if they are unused subs against PSV (nb. Spurs can amend List B at any time up to 24 hours before a UEFA cup match). Other potential players might include Kudos Oyenuga and Cameron Lancaster – but beyond that, I doubt that the players have the experience to play in the UEFA cup (although I am more than happy to be proved wrong on this point)'

I think Spurs will want to get out of the group stages into the round of 32 (as did Manchester City and Liverpool last season) or beyond for a mixture of reasons including prestige, fans and players enjoying European matches, prize money (City/Liverpool won Euros 6m prize money and media plus gate receipts, sponsorship etc - not huge versus Champions League but worth having) plus the chance to bring on young players. Consequently Spurs will want to win hime matches and the one thing the youngsters could not do against Hearts and PAOK was to score. Whatever the Spurs X1 picked we may need to have involve either Defoe or Adebayor on the bench if we include Pav, Kane or other youngsters at the start just to have a back up if required.
