We had quite a few "first teamers" against them at the lane and they caused us a few problems... Imagine a young back for and an old gomes.... with Pav up front....

They could win by hundreds!

Always thought Butcher was better than Caulker myself when they were coming through. He's playing in the Denish top flight now I read a little while ago.

He is actually playing in the equivalent of the championship in Denmark and his team is not doing very well.

Has he even played yet? Just had a quick googly thing and he only signed a one year contract but it didnt have any stats.

Not as far as I know. I do follow the Danish premier league but I have very little info on the viasat division. Will have a word with my relatives in that part of the country and see if they can enlighten me.

I think people accept the first 11 won't play at this stage of the Europa League.

But the players outside of the first 11 need games to maintain match fitness and sharpness - Defoe being one the most outspoken players at always wanting to play to maintain his sharpness.

With that in mind, I'd leave our starting 11 from yesterday at home, and travel with everyone else. So my XI would be;

Gomes

Livermore Gallas Bassong Townsend

Giovani Carroll Sandro Pienaar

Defoe Pavlyuchenko

Subs: Cudicini, Barthram, Stewart, Fredericks, Parrett, Falque, Kane

I think all of you are going loco, he will take a strong team out there, although a few of the lads who have been playing loads will not fly.

___________Gomes_____________

Walker____Gallas__Bassong____BAE

____Livermore__Sandro__Carroll____

__Gio_____Pavlyuchenko___Townsend

Cud, Falque, Defoe, Kane, Pienaar, Parrett, Barthram.

if we play Gallas, Sandro, Defoe and then pick up an injurey to, King, Ade, Parker in training, we will be a little fucked, give them game time in other games just not this one, too far to travel.

Of the generation that should be playing (i.e. the 19 and 20 year olds) Adam Smith and Caulker are out on loan, while Sam Cox and Calum Butcher were released.

To add to that list, there were only 2 defenders in the year below that, last years Academy Year 2 (Olumide Durojaiye and Zaine Francis-Angol) but both were released this Summer - so that's the 19/18 year olds also gone !

I'd be amazed if Walker and BAE even travelled, let alone played from the start!

As SS57 says, it's a 4000mile round trip and our absolute priority is the game against Fulham which Harry knows full well as he alluded to just taking the kids when we played Rubin last time round.

Honestly, I'm half expecting us to lose out there which is no disgrace and won't significantly harm our prospects of progressing to the knockout stage either, plus it'll be fantastic experience for our young contingent.

Harry also said in the post match last night that we will still send a strong team out, despiting quite a few not travelling. It is difficult place to go, and if we send a load of our kids, particularly in defence, we could be hugely embarassed.

Granted but it's a difficult place to go even with our full strength side so like I said, the priority has to be on the Fulham game and anyone who is participating in that match shouldn't feature against Rubin.

I'd imagine by Harry saying he will send a 'strong' side it will comprise of some senior players like Pavlyuchenko, Dos Santos, Bassong, Pienaar and possibly Gallas to gain some match fitness which by no means is a bad thing.

The crucial aspect was that we managed to win at home against them so we can withstand more or less any result out in Russia and still look to progress.

I undestand that the points don't really matter to us, but sending those kids out to slaughter is not somethng I think Harry will do. We'll see on Thursday I guess.

I'm sure we'll send a pretty strong team. The odd kid here & there in the start lineup & bench. We'll want to get a result.
