A tricky one to call as we all expect wholesale changes from the match against QPR and realistically, anyone who is starting against Rubin won't be on the teamsheet against Fulham on the Sunday so I wonder if we will line up something like this;

Gomes

Barthram Livermore Gallas Bassong

Sandro Carroll

Gio Pienaar Falque

Pavlyuchenko

With the NextGen game against Inter Milan postponed, I would expect Barthram to feature at RB as Walker needs a break although we may look to feature some other youngsters such as Stewart, Fredericks and Kane but I would imagine Harry will look to give games to some fringe players and to build up the fitness of Pienaar, Gallas and (rather reluctantly) Sandro.

Think we will have a young bench rather than what we witnessed in the home game against Rubin but think this game is one Harry wishes we weren't playing and the result is almost irrelevant so long as we come through unscathed.

I have said in the other thread just send the youngsters and take the consequences on the chin. We are in a position where this result wont mean too much.

I posted a team yday of:

Archer

Fredericks
Livermore
Nicholson
Rose

Parrett
Carroll

Dos Santos
Falque
Townsend

Kane

Subs: Keeper, Barthram, Stewart, Waller-Lassen, Pritchard, Lancaster, +1 (Oyenuga?)

Seems like Rose is injured, so need to find a left back and a couple of subs but Im sure we have enough youth team players. I dont want to see any first team squad members out there.

Walker can't be expected to play every game. Nobody who travels to Kazan will be fit to start against Fulham. The trip is horrendous.

Fair comment and one which I agree with but I think it's a good exercise for some of our squad to gain some match fitness, in particular Pienaar and Gallas but i'm hoping Sandro will be rested as he is a definate starter for me against Fulham - just hope Harry agrees with me!

I think we should put a team out with some experience. Any type of result would pretty much see us through barring a disaster in the final two games.

On the assumption that Corluka is injured and those below are fit...

Gomes
Kaboul/Walker Gallas Bassong Townsend
Gio Sandro Livermore Pienaar
Defoe Pav

It's a 4000-mile round trip, the furthest we've ever travelled for a competitive game except for Tbilisi way back in the early 70s (and there's not a lot in it). No-one who's expected to be in the squad for Fulham on Sunday should go, or needs to go.

Apart from Pav, he can stop off and say hello to his nan.

there was a young right back we had a few years ago, I seem to remember him playing against liverpool the day that naybet had his debut, he was young, half black, cornrows or smthg similar for a hair cut. I think he only played 2 games with us, anyone remember his name?

I think we can risk a senior keeper, and with King and Gallas back in contention Bassong can keep his captain’s role. Pav can go as translator. Not sure if it is the game to bring Pienaar back.

Perhaps:

Gomes

Fredericks Livermore Bassong Townsend

Gio Parrett Carroll Falque

Kane Pav

Subs: Archer, Barthram, Stewart, Nicholson, Pritchard, Lancaster, Oyenuga.

We have more fit first team players than Spurs can accomodate against Fulham on Sunday, so time to see the benefits of a large squad by playing a few first team players to bolster the kids (if we do not we risk a hammering - Rubin looked useful at WHL), reinforcing especially in the central areas.

But we need to leave our best players to play against Fulham.

IMO we divide the squad like this :

Fit for Fulham (squad of 14)

Goal - Heurelho Gomes or Carlo Cudicini, Brad Freidal
Full backs - Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kyle Walker
Central Defenders - Younes Kaboul, Ledley King
Midfield - Aaron Lennon, Gareth Bale, Scott Parker, Steven Pienaar, Luka Modric
Forwards - Rafael Van der Vaart, Emmanuel Adebayor, Jermain Defoe,

Take to Rubin Kazan (6 players)

Heurelho Gomes or Carlo Cudicini, Sebastien Bassong, Wiilliam Gallas, Sandro, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Giovani Dos Santos

Youngsters to Rubin Kazan (Each have played no more than a handful of games each, some have not played)

Jake Livermore, Andros Townsend, Iago Falque, Tommy Carroll, Ryan Fredericks, Dean Parrett, Jake Nicholson, Alex Pritchard, Harry Kane, Kevin Stewart, Jack Barthram

Injured

Vedran Corluka, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Niko Kranjcar, Danny Rose (?)

The trip to Kazan is not easy - no direct flights from Lomdon, so I guess Spurs will charter a plane allowing about a 6 hour flight rather than hub via Moscow (probably 11 hours including stopover). If a charter flight, Spurs would get back on Friday afternoon, allowing recovery overnight on Friday and training on Saturday before the Sunday game. Whilst imo Spurs would not expect players from the Rubin match to play a full match, it should not be a problem for some of them to be on the bench and available to be substitutes.

This way Spurs retain a squad able to win at Fulham and probably drraw in Kazan

Because he will be on the bench for Fulham and Harry has said none of the first team will go to Russia?

I think we will get smashed to pieces over there. I worry about playing too weak a squad as I doubt a hammering will do us any good, even if it is the kids.
