we're playing a football match, not arm wrestling. mason isn't exactly hulk himself either. bar dortmund carroll has been absolutely fine, in fact what usually happens is he starts, we play well, he goes off, we lose the lead/game and then everyone comes on afterwards and blames him for it.
In the words of my mother in law, well that's an interesting version of the truth.

IMO he'll get away with it, firstly the ref/lino can't have seen it otherwise he'd have been sent off.
Secondly I don't think he can be done retrospectively as I've yet to see any video replay that clearly shows he stood on his hand.
I'm pretty sure they can't ban him because it looked like he trod on Fabregas...they have to have conclusive video evidence, and if there was any then Sky would've been ramming it down everyone's throats, I'm sure of that.

Does anyone know when they'll make the announcement if we're getting our arses slapped?

From the video evidence the frame they use that 'shows' lamela stepping on his hand is the one from end to end. And it doesn't look like he did. You can see fabregas' hand throughout wasn't once covered by the foot. His foot was planted just before at most his big toe touched him.

On another note and don't think it needs a thread. I see people saying Dier was lucky ref forgot about his challenge and didn't give him a retrospective 2nd yellow. Bit surely that's not allowed. Once you've waved play on for a 2nd yellow you can't go back and give another. Firstly I've never seen it, but also because if that player goes onto score then gets sent off that would cause uproar.

Back on topic would like to see Onomah start in CM though not bothered if they go for Mason or Carroll. He would be the player most like Dembele. He is stronger than both the others and a better dribbler. And I'd get to see him play in his actual position

The video does show that he trod on that odious little shit's hand, but he's looking the other way so there's no way it can be claimed to have been deliberate.

Only videos I'm aware of is the wide angle one where it's too far away to be conclusive, and the one from ground level which doesn't show anything, just Fabregas' reaction.
As you say though, it was cleverly done by Lamela as he makes sure he's looking the other way when he crunches his poor little fingers.
Is it today we'll find out? Anyone?

Lamela Eriksen Son

The only issue is that I'd be concerned about Mason and Dier as a combo, and also slightly worried that Eriksen might do what he did against West Brom and drop too deep. If he's going to do that, then I hope he plays behind Mason and we tell Mason to get forwards as we need men getting forwards in a game where I suspect Southampton will sit very deep.

I think both Walker and Rose were a bit hot headed against Chelsea so I'd give them a rest, and obviously if Tobes is injured then Wimmer comes in.

If Lamela is suspended (he shouldn't be) then I'd bring in Clinton.

Not thrilled with Carroll in the team but Mason is offering absolutely nothing at the moment. Our performance tanked against both Arsenal and Chelsea when he was brought on. We've had purported ITK suggesting that he needs surgery and his play is being affected by the lingering effects of his injury, and I'm sympathetic toward that, but the fact of the matter is that on current form he is a liability.

I'd move Eriksen back to CM, and push Onomah forward.

iirc Eriksen was excellent in a deeper role earlier this season - could really dictate the play vs a team like Southampton.

Walker Toby Verts Rose

Think this looks strongest. What is the latest on the fitness of Toby and Danny Rose? We can't afford to lose them on top of the suspensions.

We finished 5th last season with Mason playing practically every game ffs, clearly he's not that bad!

He was cracking last season. Was a huge fan. This year he seems to come on and let the game completely pass him by (particularly the later half of the season) can only really remember Sunderland away as an impact.

Granted he hasn't been able to string a run of starts together but we need better players coming off the bench than him

I'd like to see Onomah come in for Dembele. We gave the guy a 20k a week contract so let's see what he can do in the position he'll probably end up playing in. I'd like to see Njie start as well. We need to see if he shows enough potential before making a decision on whether we need to upgrade on him or not.

I'd prefer Bentaleb over Mason and Carroll and then Mason over Carroll. But if Masons souped up on injections then rather Carroll starts. Plus it's not as though we need two massive CM to play Southampton - Died should be enough as the DM
