I 've had a mad thought for tomorrow
I know I will probably get strung up on here for suggesting it but....
how about 3 5 2 for tomorrow as a one off? Man City could eat us alive in MF...
Neither Naughton or Walker are really on great form..
Vertonghen can play the MF role...
Bill Shankly and Bill Nicholson both used to say play your best 11 players.....
We must play to our strengths,
We know Ade can play the link role will provide hold up play and an out ball. So at times in the game we could be 3 6 1
Walker is not great defensively, and not setting the world alight, so even forgetting 352 we could still line up 451
(If we could drop Verts back to lb, gallas at Rb, and line up 4411 using the same personnel)

Something like this:-

Lloris

Gallas
Dawson
Caulker

Lennon
Sandro
Vertonghen
Hudd \ Carroll
Bale

Ade
Defoe

Why the hell not!

I would like to see:

Lloris
Walker - Caulker - Vertonghen - Naughton
Lennon - Sandro - Huddlestone - Bale
Adebayor - Defoe
But I fully expect to see:
Friedel
Walker - Gallas - Caulker - Vertonghen
Sandro - Huddlestone
Lennon - Dempsey - Bale
Defoe
If we play the second team then we will get annihilated!

I can't see us going 4-4-2. AVB will crowd the midfield. I expect we could go 4-5-1

...............Friedel
Walker Gallas Caulker Vert
Lennon Hudd Sandro Bale
.....Dempsey
...................Defoe

This is the I feel AVB will start with....Friedel because he is still the first choice custodian....Walker because I doubt AVB sees him as a pressing probem only someone a bit off form.....Gallas and Caulker because he trusts them.....Vert because he has filled in well and BAE hasn't kicked a ball in anger yet....Lennon and Bale are playing well .....while Sandro is nailed on if fit.
Huddlestone is an interesting pick....he has through circumstances edged into the picture....AVB likes his keep the ball passes and this alone puts him in front of Sig and Livermore. Dempsey is in primarily because Ade has sat out most of the season for stamina and injury reasons.....he would not have recovered enough from Thursday to start but I can see him playing the last 30 minutes. That leaves Defoe who apparently gives us so little apart from goals and oh he got three in the last game.....4 4 1 1

I'm sort of at a loss to try to dream up a lineup, given the players available, that could bring a threat to City...How about,

Lloris
Gallas-Dawson-Caulker-Verts
Sandro
Carroll
Lennon Bale
Ade
Defoe

The logic being that we are going to have to counter-attack, and that looks like our strongest available defense with Walker being so wank this year. Gallas of course is much slower at RB and won't bring any attacking threat, but his positioning is so far ahead of Walkers, he's less likely to be made of fool of by their attackers.

Whatever midfield we put out won't be dominating possession, so we need one that works hard and presses them, frustrating their attacks, then sending it back up quickly to our attackers. One might say that the Hudd with his much-lauded passing skills, but those skills are displayed at such a leisurely pace that they are rarely effective in this context. As to the comment the we need Hudd's size and "physical presence" over that of the wispy Carroll, it would pay to have a look at Hudd's last, oh, 100 games or so to see what physical presence he has. I think Lennon could muscle him off the ball with ease. All Hudd's size does for him is further slow him down. And if I have to see another one of those cutie little chips into the corner of the box, or that high velocity cannonball into the stands behind the goal, I'm going, well, just have the same impression that I already have.

Whatever happens, please please play Ade over Siggy or especially Dempsey, if we want to have any chance whatsoever to get something.

At least we can approach this game with relaxation, not like say, Wigan at home. We have a 100% record in Manchester this year after all! And knowing us, this is the kind of game in which we actually turn in a great performance. Probably Hudd will score a hatrick while simultaneously bossing the midfield. Here's hoping.

Can't wait for this game. Not expected to win so I reckon we can have a real good go at them. Would love to see Ade again as team was much more fluid. Hoping for a point at least.

I have a feeling today will show how much we have fallen behind since last season. Think it will be a comfortable City win by at least 3 goals.

A mixture of bad luck with injuries, poor team selections, and poor transfer dealings will come to ahead today. Lose badly today then lose to Arsenal. AVB will be under even more intense pressure.

We've had bad luck with injuries, but we aren't too far behind. They've got buckets of money, we haven't. And it's not exactly always the selections, it's the players playing poorly too.

Don't be so doom and gloom all the time, it really brings the mood down.

If we still had VDV you probably wouldn't even had said half that stuff in your pot either.

I think your thoughts on AVB's reasoning may be correct, but it looks at the team as a collection of individuals, and fails to see the team as a whole. If you were trying to pick a team with the greatest chance of a positive goal-difference at the ed of the match then you would do something quite different.

I'd play Ade instead of Dempsey...drop Walker..drop Friedel..bring in Carroll and play 3 6 1 !
..............Lloris
.....Gallas Caulker Vert
Lennon Hudd Sandro Bale
..........Carroll Ade
.............Defoe

We've been very unlucky on our last two trips to the Etihad. If you offered me a point right now, I'd snatch it!!!
I checked the physioroom epl website and they have both Sandro & BAE listed as TBC so........
.................here's what I want to see tomorrow:
Freidel
Walker Caulker Vertongen BAE
Sandro THudd
Lennon Dempsey Bale
Defoe
Subs: Lloris Gallas Dawson Naughton Siggy Ade Livermore
COYS!!!!! TO DARE IS TO DO!!! YID ARMY!!!!

If anyone of Friedel, Hudd or Dempsey are in the starting 11 you can forget any chance of winning, to pick all 3 is beyond funny.

If I see Ade and Llorus not playing and see Huddlestone and Dempsey starting I might actually not bother watching to be honest.

If he doesn't start Ade it would be criminal in all honesty. I'm in favor of starting Lloris but Brad hasn't done a lot wrong so wouldn't be to fussed about that. But I can see him starting Defoe with Ade on the bench and Dempsey starting. When AVB took the job most of us (including me) expected attacking free flowing football, in reality we got George Graham in disguise. AVB needs to grow some balls and attack regardless of who we are playing.

I think you might be the most depressing, moaniest poster I've ever seen on here. Seriously, what's your problem? Everything that comes out of your posts are negative, no matter what the thread is about.

I think that might just be a point of showing the level of disappointment rather than literal (I could be wrong though)

And its all well and good being dissapointed when your favourite players arnt playing, but surely as supporters we support and get behind the team whatever, whoever plays, how badly they play, turning off because your dissapointed seems thoroughly ridiculous to me, and not what a true fan would do!

Would ANYONE here really be willing to bet against seeing this line-up?!

Friedel
Walker Gallas Caulker Verts
Thudd Livermore (I reckon judging by recent injuries Sandro be out - But possibly Sandro being the only diff here)
Lennon Dempsey Bale
Defoe

It sucks but it's almost the inevitable - Cue the uproar come the announcement unfortunately

I REALLY hope AVB makes me eat humble pie

I would say that is pretty likely. If he has Livermore with Thud and Defoe upfront we can say goodbye to any possession. No joke we may only have 25% possession with that lineup, and miracles like Celtic vs Barca don't happen very often. If AVB goes there for a 0-0 draw we might as well not turn up. Man City's weakness this year is the defense. Ajax tore them to shreds in the 1st half and Dortmund made them look like a pub side, they just had Hart to thank in earning them a draw, and they have dug themselves out of holes against average PL teams this year after being second best for the most part. Attack City is the way forward.

So if we play the team AVB is probably most likely to pick we'll get stuffed (away to the Champions) and if we play yours?

Maybe you should get into the clairvoyant game or management.

Whatever team we put our with the injuries we have will have an extremely difficult time getting a result.

I agree with you on that...got to take the bitter with the sweet but in this case I don't think the poster meant he would literally not watch the game....just how he feels.

We could go with all the player we don't want on the pitch and still win....then sit back and watch and read the site for the next few days and diagnose about say 15-20 posters with split personality :cautious:
