I can understand your point. My counter point would be: any player replacing lamela will be poor. Most likely all of our players except Lloris will be poor in this game. So why not play someone with potential? Like lamela?
I get that-but I want to get something out of this game. Maybe if we play the usual EPL team we will-I don't see it.

Me too... Me too... Don't see it though, but I couldn't see us getting anything from ars away either. It's Nice to be surprised every now and then(n)(y)

This is what I was talking about above - at this stage, getting a result away at City should be secondary to continuing to embed the tactics and philosophy into the club.

Don't get me wrong, i would love to get a result, but I don't want Spurs to sacrifice the long-term goal here just to get a result.

Play the same squad the lined up against Arsenal, use similar tactics - 4231, but playing a little bit deeper, and prepared to hit on the counter. Still use the press, but maybe less frequently, and not quite as high up - unless the situation presents itself. So, same shape, a little more defensive than against Soton (not quite parking the bus, but not on the accelerator either). If we lose, so be it, as long as we learn a bit more about how to play with this philosophy against better teams.

Honestly, I am looking for the time next season (or even later this season, but I think we may need a piece or two) where we enter each game with our own game-plan, and we force team to adjust to how we play instead of adjusting our philosophy to the opponent. The only way we get there is to ensure this philosophy is part of our DNA - and that means it is our immediate focus ahead of even results - for me anyways.

Lloris
Dier,Kaboul,Vertonghen,Rose
Capoue,Stambouli
Lamela,Eriksen,Chadli
Adebayor

I like this, my only concern is Stambouli. I rate him, but he is only playing 60 minutes in mid-week games, so I fear that Pochettino does not rate him. I wish we had some ITK on that situation.

I wouldn't think so, more to do with the fact that's he's being managed carefully as a new recruit I'd expect.

There just isn't any big picture with most of our fans nowadays, it's all instant gratification. I suppose that's football as a whole now tbf.

Maybe. I hope so. But from Pochettino's standpoint, everyone on the team is (relatively) new, so it feels like something more.

I think we'll see more of stambo for sure, long season and injuries and all that. Capoue and Mason established as prem paring now so will probably see him more in EL/cups and maybe for specific games if poch wants more of a brute next to Capoue.

Can't see epoch not rating him though, has shown he's got good qualities, will just need time to bed in.

He'll play the same team (unless Naughton is unfit), and I'd do the same. We've just got a bit of traction, and the team which played the last two games will be starting to feel that they're synching. Win, lose, or draw, I'm looking for a performance which we can build on, and in play8ing the same side we have a chance of that, whereas change the team and lose and it will seem like we should have played the same way as we did against Southampton and Arsenal. This is a season of learning, we need to find an identity and Poch, as well as the team, need to get clearer on what that is. By all means, if we lose and we don't perform, then try a tweak or two, but when it's just beginning to look ok we should stay with what we've got.

On current form I really can't see Adebayor getting a sniff of anything against Kompany. Kane is more of a mixed bag and might just surprise them on the other hand.

Agreed. Trying to manhandle Kompany will always end badly, but he's quite the ballwatcher and clever movement in behind him often makes him look like a mug. But we'll probably play Adebayor...

if that's true then the team will be

lloris
dier kaboul vertonghen rose
lamela capoue mason eriksen
chadli adebayor

subs: vorm, fazio, davies, dembele, townsend, kane, soldado

In possession maybe, but even that will be more like a Diamond. Our main out of position/starting formation is 4-2-3-1

it wasn't against arsenal though, chadli was right up alongside ade for most of the game and i think we'll go the same way against city.
