I appreciate that there is logic to your line ups, ie that Verts has ability to play at CDM, and that you put a lot of thought into how you want us to play, none of that is in dispute. I think that where the humour comes into it for people like me is that I open a thread like this expecting to see predicted line ups, but end up reading wildly speculative (if well thought out) line ups, that have no chance in hell of being picked. That's not a criticism btw, even if the line ups occasionally crack me, the explanation is always interesting to read. (y)

Why??

I haven't once posted a predictive line-up in these threads. This thread has never been a strict thread about guessing what poch will do. If it was there wouldn't be a thousand 433 formations in it ever damn time! :D Goddamn.

It's a chance to imagine and create a little according to our own views on the way the game can be played with the squad we have using our overarching philosophy.

Plus, if people think I'm the kind of person to throw 11 players in a 4231 and not put any real strategic thought behind it then they can't have been on here that long.
This is something I was going to comment on. I always thought this thread was for us to pick our own team based on our own preferences, favorites and those we think would be best suited in a particular situation. As oppose to predicting what formation Poch may use or who he is going to pick. This results in us posters not being on the same wave length at times.

To be honest my first thght was verts to replace dier when he got that yellow as didn't he start out at DM for ajax? Clearly has the technical skills.

Depends how much Poch wants an enforcer as it will be a real.surprise if Poch breaks up Toby and jan, but I see the logic especially if mason and bents aren't fit.

Dembele could play CM. If anyone cares to remember, the last time we played Pool, he was a beast. Pool could not get the ball away from him at all.

With the injuries and the fact that Liverpool under Klopp is a completely different animal, we need to be solid at the back(meaning we can little afford any fuck ups) and in DM. Really fucking wish Dier wouldnt have to miss this match. But he is. And who know who will be and who wont be fit. So with that in mind, here is the team I would play:
Lloris
Trippier Toby Jan Rose
Veljkovic Alli
Lamela Eriksen Son*
Kane

Vorm, Wimmer, Davies, Dembele, Carroll, Chadli, N'Jie

*If no Son, N'Jie in the XI with Townsend on the bench.

It's harsh on Walker and Davies, but Trippier and Rose would improve us in this. We can ill afford any fuck ups. Walker is good for a few fuck ups a game while putting in a solid shift the rest of the time. We cant afford that here. Davies has been decent, but he doesnt add anything in attack. And his defensive qualities are about equal to Rose's. But Rose adds a whole other dynamic as he is good going forward as well. Time for him to rightfully get his place back.

With no Dier, we need a DM here. TIme for Levy/Poch/both to put his/their pride to the side for the greater good. We have no other DM in this team As we have seen this season, we are a lot better defensively when we have a DM in the side. It's not just down to to Toby being in the side. So even if Bentaleb and Mason are fit, we shouldnt be playing with 2 CM's in the CM2. We need a DM back there, which is why I'd bring Veljkovic in. And even better, you know what it would do by bringing him in? He'd sign a new contract thereby locking him down and guaranteeing us receiving value in a future sale. That is what is best for business, after all. It gives us a DM in this game, which we badly need, and we lock Veljkovic into a new contract which is what both sides apparently want. It's a win, win, win.

@thfc12 You seem to find my reasoning alarming. Please do elaborate.
You put Trippier in despite the fact that Walker has clearly been the better player.
Leaving Eriksen out of the team after his last performance is criminal. He is our best player and he should be starting.

It's crazy that Dier has become so important for us in his new role. It's actually a huge blow he's out and once again shows what a balls up it was not getting another defensive minded central midfielder in this summer. Anyway, team wise I'd go:

Lloris, walker, alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, bentaleb, Mason, lamela, alli, eriksen, Kane.

That's if bentaleb and Mason are back and fit enough. Although playing both is obviously a risk. I wouldn't be surprised, despite him being awful against Swansea, if dembele is unfortunately involved somewhere.

Firstly he hasn't got the job yet. Secondly he will have next to no time to sort them out because of the international break. If they have a turn in fortune against us, it will be more to do with "new manager bounce" than great coaching by Klopp. Keep Coutinho and Sturridge quiet and that's them done.

Dembele and Alli for me. Shouldn't have to hope that Dembele has one of his beast-type games but if he does, we should win it.

Dembele has played exclusively in an attacking position for us this season. I'd be pretty sure that he isn't going to be considered for the deeper role.

Hopefully Mason and Bentaleb are both fit, and we can play the two of them.

As much as I like Mason, his positional sense in defence is scary.. Coutinho can ghost past behind him with ease.. He can only play besides player like Dier who shoulders majority of the defensive duties...

Even with Bentaleb back, I'm not sure if he is ready straight away for this game.. He started erratically this season and was then out with injury..

This candidate for DM needs to come from a guy consistent in our strongest starting XI in order to read the game in the league.. IMO, he cannot be someone who has not been starting regularly, much less an U-21.. So we need a gamble in the first 30 minutes to see the effect by putting Verts as DM and having Toby and Wimmer together in defense for the first time in the league.. If it works, Dier situation is solved for that game. If it does not, at least we still have 3 CBs present in that 45 minutes.. I am quite confident 8 games into the season, we are quite a well-drilled team defensively now to deal with most, if not all, teams in the league..

Dembele, I concurred to what @nicdic mentioned..

Similarly to Bentaleb, Mason is better starting as sub.. Alli in for me..

Njie needs to start ahead of Chadli in this game.. No doubt about that.. Chadli needs to rest abit to be back to his best..

Agree. I doubt they'll have the new manager bounce anyway, players coming back from all corners of the world and its not like its at Anfield - which would be completely different with a buzzing home crowd etc.

The timing of the change is to our advantage if any.

Think these calls for Vetonghen in central midfield are madness.

New manager bounce is a myth isn't it?

And why on earth would we want to disrupt our current CB partnership which is looking really good, and one that just stifled the best attacking outfit in the league.
