Poch comes back, it ends in tears. He had to go when he went, no away wins in how long? Yes, we had a glorious European adventure, but a couple of seasons earlier, in exactly the same circumstances, we’d have been out because there’d have been no VAR to pick up that tiny deflection, and then there’s no Amsterdam and nothing else - including the boss basically saying ‘If we win, I think I’ll leave…’ which was the day I fell absolutely out of love with him. I can’t think he could have said much worse in terms of destabilizing the team right on the eve of the biggest game of their careers. I’m not sold that Poch has a winning mentality, which probably sounds crazy to most folks, but I can’t for the life of me imagine someone like Conte saying oh yeah, if we are successful I’m out… certainly not publicly.

We had a great time, and should have won stuff in that era. We didn’t. I’m not convinced that would change if he came back. Anything re Poch is going to be tinged with nostalgia and the comfort of looking back to what felt like a relatively good time. But we need to be looking to tomorrow, not yesterday.

No, give me Conte.

So will there be a new thread in few years titled: "Tuchel or Conte or Poch" seeing the pattern of us hiring ex-Chelsea managers lately ;)

I love Poch but his unhappiness and failure to work with the big names at PSG surely has direct read across to Utd

clearly the bar at Utd is massively lower these days than at PSG where you are a flop if you don’t win the CL but Poch has shown he doesn’t generally work well with big names and Utd have a lot of them albeit mostly at the end of their careers or probably leaving (Pogba)

The other blot against Poch is a lot of his transfers were dreadful and his parting present of TND, GLC and Sess was a shocker

would love him back in 5-10 years but once He’s developed more and we have too as a club

Proven winner with multiple clubs versus Poch (as much as we love him). Only one choice at this point in time - Conte.

Our players shake on the biggest occasions. Conte doesn't - he's a winner. That's why we need him.

It very well might happen. Been talking for weeks, and why they are looking for an interim coach. It's my opinion why they were happy to stick with Ole and limp through until the end of the season.

Could also explain why we went for Nuno…..

As much as I love Poch, the crucial thing is seeing if Conte is able to get more resources out of Levy/Lewis than any other manager. If he can’t then no-one probably could and it’s all moot anyway.

Poch was the right manager at the right time for us. With the stadium being built and not a lot to spend we needed a manager to squeeze the most out of a small squad.

I just feel now we have to think with a different mindset. We don't need a 'project manager' anymore. The stadium is built and we now need to act like a big club. I'm sure Poch will get there and maybe winning things in France will help him grow. He's still not proven as a winning manager yet though. Conte is at another level and he's a manager for the here and now.

In terms of style I think the Poch team will be very difficult to top. I think we'll match the intensity and I think we'll actually be fitter under Conte. We wont press as high though but I think that also means we'll be less susceptible to the counter attack. I think there was a blueprint to beat the Poch team on the counter. Once everyone is drilled into the Conte gameplan we'll be harder to beat. We're more likely to win things under Conte for that reason, just that extra solidity needed to dig out the big wins.

I’ve told my Man Utd supporting mate today that I’d absolutely hate to see Poch at Utd but it’s based purely on emotions.

It’s akin to that ex-girlfriend you still care for, you know it wouldn’t work getting back together, but you don’t want to see her with anyone else.
