Juande Ramos' subs have been so much more effective than Jol's, really changing games for the better.

He seems to have such confidence in his subs, they're not token gestures for strikers because we've got four, they're to adapt to play against the opposititons weaknesses.

Four examples
West Ham - Birth of our 4-3-3 system - we get a draw from being one down.
Chelsea cup final - Hudd on, wins penalty - win from being one down
Chelsea - Hudd comes on, scores one, MoM - draw from being one down
Pompey - Bent comes on, scores one, assists one, MoM - win a draw

Aside from yesterday, Ramos seems to make his substitutions a fair bit earlier than Jol used to, giving them more chance to have an effect. Also, he is a much better reader of a game than Jol, and can make the right move accordingly changing personnel, his system, or both; whereas BMJ tried to stick to the same system. Yesterday was unreal though, I've seen one sub have an effect that quickly on a game, but never two.

Ramos doesnt always get the Subs right, just have to look at the birmingham game to see that, but for most of the games he has done very well in changing the players and formation around, must confuse the hell out of the other team for abit with the changes he does, they confuse the hell out of me at times

Wow. What an unprovoked, stupid point you make. Thanks for the effort.

(I agree with the thread BTW- can't argue with the facts)

I don't mind being a Jol-ite. You named West Ham, last season we managed to get a win with a sub scoring the winner and a sub winning a freekick for our third.

I'm not knocking Ramos, I think he'll be gret for us, but I am very fed-up of Jol getting abuse for only managing to get fifth two years running.

I think Ramos is an instinctive manager and he does usually get the substitutions right. I also agree with them coming on earlier. I really hate these final five minute or so subs, they hardly have time to settle into the game.

The only one I've really disagreed with was taking Keane off against Brum and I really sympathised with Keane although he shouldn't have had his tantrum; he was hungry to create and score goals and could well have turned the game in our favour.

However, substitutions are always a bit of a risk but yesterday's were sublimely successful. Master stroke Maestro Ramos!

I wasn't abusing Jol, I simply stated that Ramos' tactical substitutions are good, and probably better than Jol's.

I love BMJ as much as the next man but I just think that Ramos' substitutions are better, and braver, but maybe that's because Ramos is new and Jol wax fighting for his job, who knows.

My comment wasn't aimed at you, just a general comment aimed at people who seem to think Jol managed to fluke two good league finishes.

On-topic Ramos does seem to make changes a bit earlier and yesterday they worked but they wont always, away in Prague against Brum. He is braver than Jol with his changes but sometime caution will be the better way to go.

I was thinking of the real subs, u-boats that is; being sent out undetected to sink the opposition.

I had some knobs sitting behind me at the game saying Ramos was tactically awful ,and that he would be gone by christmas. They went on to say that his use of subs (as Bent and Ohara came on) were " absolutey shocking". Man it made me feel good when Bent tore Pompey to shreads

too often jols subs baffled and seemed a bit too negative

ramos is all about risks with his subs more than most managers around

you could argue surely if subs have to always make such an impact and change the game why arent they in the original starting line up i guess

Clearly Ramos isn't yet a good enough manager to realise which players he should start but at least he admits his mistakes and gets them on the pitch before the game ends.
