hes already got my vote for player of the season. He wont win it but then the most deserving player generally doesnt, last year being the exception.

Yes, he surely is one of the best this season but Keane still rules :)

Funnily enough, Keane's goals and thus contribution to the team (as well as his effort and committment etc) cannot be denied, he has been our most effective player of the year and done his job the best.

However, his overall play has not been great for much of this season. It seems that most players/strikers either score goals or contribute to team play seldom both (I would say that Henry and Ronaldo are the most recent exceptions).

Steed for me has been all round our best player this season because he played well regardless of the way that the team was playing.

His attitude has reminded me somewhat of Davids 2 seasons ago. He was a winner and you could see why.He played out of position in the most physically demanding league in the world, he could have been forgiven for going through the motions but I think that he led by example.

He showed our players that not only do you play to win in every game, you also play to win the next game. If we were 4-0 down with 2 minutes to go Davids would still be giving everything because he knew from experience that if you kept on giving it your all you would get results, maybe not in that game, but in the next.

Steed has not been the only one who has managed to do that, Dawson also gives his all, but he has been the only one to do it with consistent quality.

Always rated Malbranque from his Fulham days.

Was DELIGHTED when we signed him. I think his confidence suffered slightly last season but he's shown his true colours this season and has been AWESOME.

I bet even Ramos has been suprised at his quality. First name on the team sheet? I bet..

If we genuinely want to move on to become a top side, Malbranque is nowhere near the level required, regardless of how he's played. If you compare him to Rosicky (the other right footed left sider in the top four) the gulf is enormous. When Steed plays the pitch loses a third of its width as he always starts from so narrow (anyone else goes to the game today look out for this) and very rarely do you see him running at a defender and sliding a striker through which is absolutely imperative if you are going to play on the wrong side as your crossing skills are largely negated, not that his crossing is particularly special either.

I would have no problems selling him whenever and buying someone with actual class or just a good left footer eg matt taylor who would be much more of an asset to us, but to read the words 'world class' in a Malbranque thread is an absolute joke.

I would go on to say that the majority of the present squad would have moved on once we are considered a regular top side.

But we need these exellent quality players now in order to acquire that status, pushing - stretching - fighting...

We just can't (and won't) go out and buy Steve Gerrards and Rosickys and Kakas right now.

Our ambition lies in the kids, like Arsenal, but with the caveat that we have to play them in the harshness of our ambitions while Arsenal feeds them in to an squad that is already primed for titles and trophies.

Steed has come good in his second full season and is doing a good job on the left. If our other quality players play at the top of their game too then maybe top four achievment is within reach in one or two seasons.

I am a well known steed berater, because I felt he was so hot and cold last season and only really performed when the whole team was on song, but when we were up against it, he never stepped up.

This season, however, he would be one of the first names on the team sheet

Steed has been a valuable asset to the team this season, grafting, options and scoring (Again today). (Almost) everyone can see the improvement in him so far this season!
